History is repeating. Can we save America?

Reprinted By: BettyJean Kling

You may fear the pundits who warn us we dare not utter these things. Why not? I fear instead not to learn from history, not to remind others lest we make the same mistake again. Take the three minutes to read this. Maybe it is  wrong. What if it is right? I have feared this could be true  – many do and while this is still our beloved  America as we know and love it  – I am not afraid nor should I be to say to. In fact it is quite American to say so. I hope I am wrong but if I’m not – I hope I and others like me are not too late to open your eyes! Can we save America?

UPDATE:
I posted this  article late last night that was sent to me along with a link to snopes- and the information from snopes detailing the legitimacy of the letter, unfortunately both were a hoax. I should have gone directly to snopes myself to check before sending this out as fact.

Although David Kaiser is not the author or the piece- I still stand behind the concept of this piece inasmuch as we much learn from history or we are condemned to repeat it.  And so I ask again – Is history repeating itself? Are we losing our way over the last 20 or 30 years and what about this particular administration? Some will say this is very inappropriate of me- why? Read it over – think about it- Why is it inappropriate for me to ask – to question –  and can we do anything to stop it?

David Kaiser is a respected historian whose published works have covered a broad range of topics, from European Warfare to American League Baseball… The following is eroneously attributed to Dr Kaiser- he did not write it – if you receive this in your email – before you resend it  – while the content is worth reading,  I am not sure Dr. Kaiser woukld like to have his name tied to it- so please tie you own name to it as I have . Be brave- if you feel say it don’t lay it at someone else’s feet. We are still in America- if you fear saying or writing anything – that is a sign that you must do something NOW or it may already be too late and everything written herein is right!

History Unfolding

I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books on history that have been published in six languages, and I have studied history all my life. I have come to think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is simply a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten to fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learned just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the $700 billion we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, and school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it simply wants marriage to remain defined as between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?) We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is Medicare and our entire government. Our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and I know precisely what I am talking about) – the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot even name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who, in turn, cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh, of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe are more important.)

Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: Change. Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning.

As a serious student of history, I thought I would never come to experience what the ordinary, moral German must have felt in the mid-1930s in those times, the “savior” was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they should have known was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory. Conservative “losers” read it right now.

And there were the promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and frowned and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully and beat them into submission. Which they did – regularly. And then, he was duly elected to office, while a full-throttled economic crisis bloomed at hand – the Great Depression. Slowly, but surely he seized the controls of government power, person by person, department by department, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The children of German citizens were at first, encouraged to join a Youth Movement in his name where they were taught exactly what to think. Later, they were required to do so. No Jews of course,

How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe, and across the world. He did it with a compliant media – did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It’s all there in the history books.

So read your history books. Many people of conscience objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and ridiculed. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to.

Do not forget that Germany was the most educated, the most cultured country in Europe. It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And yet, in less than six years (a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency) it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.

I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me; others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am. Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections.

  1. Betty Jean,

The essay you have quoted was not written by David Kaiser.

  2. hmm very intresting BJ

  3. http://patdollard.com/2009/02/i-am-a-student-of-history/

It appears the “student of history” is a “tps,” found having followed link from snopes as first appearance of it on net.

It would then appear that attributing to David Kaiser is the error, not necessarily the message contained therein.

As Pamela Geller noted on her blog that she “wishes” she had written it, truth be told, so do I and therefore methinks the message itself worthy even if the credit is inaccurate.
    FWIW

Wouldn’t it be a hoot, if it were one of Zero’s Goebbel-esque faux info disseminators added the phony name? These days, we all must be on guard for the admins trolls, as can be seen both on the news and with our own eyes, what media they can’t control, they lie about.

FTR, snopes itself is not the defender of the truth it proports itself to be, they stand behind Obama’s phony birth certificate.

They use the trust of people to spread dissinformation and the “official party” line on issues.

As does, by the way, factcheck. Both are puppet organizations of Annenburg, based in Chicago, a known supporter of the marxist Chicago mob.

  4. You make a good point- just as the MSM is in the bag so are Snopes and fact check. Even wikipedia is a farce that allows people to create an encyclopedia – not of real facts but of whatever they want the facts to be.

We have let all this happen right under our noses – right before our eyes – what could we have been thinking?
A shortcut, a lil white lie, just a penny candy stolen maybe a cheat on the income tax then something else everybody else does. AND now – well here we broadmined progressive modern people sit!

There is nothing sacred anymore and we can not trust each other – Remember when a handshake was trusted now you can not trust anothers word nor a contract- but it is not times that have changed it is us- we have changed .

Just as we changed to what we have become- I believe we can change back to what we used to be. There are rules and e have a Constitution- we need not reinvent the wheel – all we need to do is give up our own greed – yup each and every one of us needs to give up our own greed that is where it starts!

  5. We need to look inside, bj, to vet our heretofore “knowedge,” the common assumptions that “everybody knows.”

One timely assumption that ONLY amjor party can win: Is that OUR logic or just like Ben Franklin adages that have been so drilled in, it becomes our truth?

Tonight you were talking about racism … vs. truth.

Accurate because racism is an accusation designed to shut down free speech. Good, bad and ugly comes in all coors, shapes and forms.

There is no racism in regnizing the bad in anyone, any law, any issue. Only truth.

If you make a statement that Zero is a bad president, that is opinion and most would say, fact.

The one who replies “You are a racist,” only proves that s beauty is in the eye of the beholder, racism is in the mind of the beholder because what he attributes to you is the basis of his own thought, ” Obama is a bad president because he is black.”

Stick to you guns all. It is not racist to say Obama is a horrid president anymore than saying Heidi Fleiss is a whore.

When there is cause, proof and if the shoe fits.

  6. […] group, still together all this time, off the deep end with his latest poll regarding the blog piece History is repeating. Can we save America? https://freemenow.wordpress.com/2009/10/18/history-is-repeating-can-we-save-america/ that my mom […]

  7. It makes one wonder why the very public denial of this letter and calling it a hoax? Is it because we do not know the true author of this very thought provoking letter?

Or is it so close to the truths, that it gives away the intentions to enslave another nation of People?

I have come to the conclusion that much of this letter is indeed based in historical truths and it is the story/ history of man’s inhumanity to his fellow man or in this particular case, to the anihalation of a nation of People.

And are we to disregard the warnings of the past? No one would listen to Sir Winston Churchill and there were consequences to be paid for ignoring these dire warnings! It was much too late to save many in Germany and throughout Europe!

There are too many particulars to just ignore the past in combination with the similarities of the present. Coincidences, I think not! Caution, absolutely!

Many of us refuse to stick our heads in the sand, with hopes that all the unpleasantness will go away! Open your eyes and take a good look at our impending future!

It is time for all Americans to stand together, united as one, to stop those who would deceive and issue each and every American to tyranny and our enslavement to this “One World Order”!

As the days go by and our freedoms and rights are being ripped away from us as they are now, how many will stand by and give themselves over to this “One World Order”? Forsaking America!

Once you allow this, there is no turning back to Democracy and Independence, you will be forever at the mercy of those who would govern with an “Iron Fist”!

I really do not care what label use, it still amounts to depriving a nation of Americans their freedoms, their rights and their independence!

    • You are so right- None of us care who wrote it – Read it and then read Kathleen’s suggestions on what else to read and read that too! That will be found on the update under Obama supporters are deaf dumb and blind!

  8. NITL, you have nailed it.

I take but one issue, because the phrasing betrays the mindset “and our freedoms and rights are being ripped away from us …”

This mindset as much as anything works to facillitate their assaults on our liberty.

The think cap needs to start from the point, “My rights are INALIENABLE, THEY CAN NOT BE RIPPED AWAY, I HAVE TO CONCEDE THEM, AND THIS I WILL NOT DO!”

One “unintended consequence” of decades of appealing to DC is the unintended consequence that in effect said, “DC has all teh power.”

    This was a HUGE mistake.

At this point, I think WTP MUST take to the streets AT THE STATE HOUSES, demand our state legislators and governors ASSERT OUR STATE SOVEREIGN RIGHTS at the treat of secession and be prepared to DO IT.

“Hell no! We won’t go!” takes on an entirely new meaning and MUST be the rallying cry.

If we do not stop them NOW in a peaceful way, there will be only two choices: capitulation to tyrants or bullets flying.

    LET’S ROLL!

    IMO
