Earlier, I wrote that the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank was drawing heat for suggesting in a web video that Hillary Clinton should drink “Mad Bitch” beer.

Now that video — which was featured prominently on the Post’s homepage  Friday — has been taken down.

“The video was a satirical piece that lampooned people of all stripes,” a Post spokesperson tells POLITICO. “There was a section of the video that went too far, so we have removed the piece from our website.”

Indeed, the “Mouthpiece Theater” video — which Milbank hosts along with his colleague, Chris Cillizza — played off yesterday’s “beer summit” with jokes about what types of beer other political figures would drink.

And while the Post reporters even made fun of themselves — their selection was Jackass Oatmeal Stout — it was the Clinton remark that quickly set off red flags and raised questions of sexism.

Both Talking Points Memo and Media Matters called attention to the remark, with TPM blogger Brian Beutler writing that if he ran the Post’s parent company, he’d demand the paper’s executives who signed off on the video be “fired, or that the Post itself be liquidated.”

Still, it’s not the first time this summer that Milbank’s been a target of liberal bloggers.

By questioning coordination between the White House and a Huffington Post reporter prior to a news conference — and then debating that reporter on CNN — Milbank has already received ample criticism from the left.

 

Nancy Armstrong, lost to a Massive Heart Attack at age 49

Nancy suffered a massive heart attack 2days ago at age 49.

Her son Justin told me that she complained of pains in her chest last week and saw a doctor. She had planned on further testing and was told she was young and had little to worry about once the pains ceased.

We have to wonder why women are never warned about heart attacks and never taken seriously.  Upon autopsy, Nancy was found to have a 90 % blockage in one main artery and 70% in the others.

She is survived by her husband Andy  and two grown children from a previous marriage Samantha Strickland  aged 27 and Justin Strickland aged 25.

There are many good articles on Sarah Palin, but perhaps the best one appeared by Elaine Lafferty in “The Daily Beast.”  Its title is “Sarah Palin is a Brainiac.”  Here’s the first paragraph below.
The former editor in chief of Ms. magazine (and a Democrat) on what she learned on a campaign plane with the would-be VP.

“It’s difficult not to froth when one reads, as I did again and again this week, doubts about Sarah Palin’s “intelligence,” coming especially from women such as PBS’s Bonnie Erbe, who, as near as I recall, has not herself heretofore been burdened with the Susan Sontag of Journalism moniker. As Fred Barnes—God help me, I’m agreeing with Fred Barnes—suggests in the Weekly Standard, these high toned and authoritative dismissals come from people who have never met or spoken with Sarah Palin. Those who know her, love her or hate her, offer no such criticism. They know what I know, and I learned it from spending just a little time traveling on the cramped campaign plane this week: Sarah Palin is very smart.”

Of course, the liberal attitude toward Gov. Palin is that she must be stupid.  Why?  Because she graduated from the University of Idaho (and, unlke Obama and Sotomayor, was not an Affirmative Action student at places like Princeton, Columbia, and Harvard).  Because she’s from Alaska (where everybody must be stupid, right?).  Because she’s very attractive (and bright women are * all ugly right?).  Because she’s a Republican (and Republicans are, well, you know, right.  And because she’s a mother of five children (and bright women have an average of 0.0 children, right?). 

About 2300 years ago, Aristotle said, “All men [note: he also meant women] desire by nature to learn.”  If there had been liberals in ancient Greece, Aristotle would have made them exceptions to his rule.  Aristotle would have loved Sarah Palin.  Socrates defined wise people as those “who know what they do not know.”  Socrates, meet Sarah.  Sarah . . . Socrates.

Neda Agha Soltan, 27, was shot dead on 20 June as she watched protests against the poll result. Her death – one of 10 that day – was filmed on a mobile phone and broadcast around the world.

Shia Muslims traditionally mark 40 days after a death with a ceremony called the “arbayeen”.

Mr Mousavi and another opposition leader, Mehdi Karroubi, had asked the interior ministry for permission to hold a memorial service in Tehran’s Mosalla mosque, according to an aide to Mr Mousavi, but permission was denied.

So the opposition leaders said they would join Neda’s family at her graveside at the Behesht-e Zahra cemetery.

Witnesses said about 150 police as well as members of the Islamic Basij militia were there, with a number surrounding the section where Neda is buried.

Mr Mousavi got out of his car and walked up to Neda’s grave, but was then surrounded by police, the witnesses told AFP news agency.

“Mousavi was not allowed to recite the Koran verses said on such occasions and he was immediately surrounded by anti-riot police who led him to his car,” a witness said.

Other witnesses said that mourners clung to his car, chanting “Mousavi, we support you”.

“Hundreds have gathered around Neda Agha Soltan’s grave to mourn her death and other victims’ deaths… police arrested some of them … dozens of riot police also arrived and are trying to disperse the crowd,” another witness told Reuters.

She hasn’t shown up for work very regularly over the last year or so, so when Michelle Obama’s $300,000 job was cut at the University of Chicago Hospitals, it may have been hard to notice the difference.  Crain’s skipped the part about the incoming First Lady, must have been an oversight in their expert analysis of Chicago Business, because we know Crain’s is “Not show business. All business”.

The Tribune announced the layoff without much analysis, but let the cat far enough out of the bag to prompt our Don Rose to question how important Michelle Obama’s job must have been, as it was so easily eliminated.  The New Republic gnashes their dentures at the how a community can be served without Michelle Obama, despite the void of actual labor she has performed while being on the campaign trail.  The comments are much more informative than the article in TNR.

The Washington Post smells a rat, with a critical article of a lawyer from U of C hospitals, who worked with Michelle Obama in implementing a rationalization of emergency healthcare delivery.  The lawyer, Susan Sher, had the nerve to co-operate with President Bush and the Federal Government’s initiatives to deliver emergency care in the emergency room, and everyday care in health clinics.  No word on the Michelle’s level of co-operation with the Bush administration at her executive position.

The Univesity of Chicago Press Room continues to impress with stories about blood cancer therapies and a Webcast of innovative cardiac surgery, but is tight lipped about layoffs effecting the First Lady and 15 other senior executives.

Isn’t this that $300K salary that Michelle Obama had to “work twice as hard to get half as much” for? Her contribution and hard work must not have been critical or even necessary for the hospital to not consider refilling her position — so what does this say about how Obama does business? Sounds like politics as usual.

If congress will not trade in what they have now – why should we? Please call your representative and ask them why they flew in from all over the country and voted a special vote to be sure that whatever the new health plan might be – that they the ‘535’ et. al.  would be exempt? We want to know why they exempted themselves from the health bill that they are going to vote on and force us to accept and pay for and probably without our consent. No No NO!

10 lashes for wearing trousers

Lubna Ahmed Hu Lsein was offered immunity from trial because she works for the UN, but she refused because she wants to get the ’Unconstitutional law’ changed and is willing to resign from her position at the UN to do it.

She and 10 of the women arrested with her, including non-Muslims, each received 10 lashes and a fine for wearing “indecent” clothing. Determined to get as much publicity as possible she has asked for legal representation and while the trial is delayed for that purpose she is inviting invited journalists and observers to the trial.

Sudan ‘trousers trial’ adjourned

The BBC’s James Copnall in Khartoum says Ms Hussein is determined to generate as much publicity as she can.

Meanwhile another female journalist who wrote an article supporting Ms Hussein has been charged with defaming the police, which can carry a hefty fine.

Amal Habbani wrote an article for Ajrass Al-Horreya newspaper following the arrests entitled “Lubna, a case of subduing a woman’s body”.

Unbelievable- this woman and 10 others standing up for their rights – can we really sit here and do less- what will it take – what do we have to lose before we will stand up like these brave women?

Shame on us-after what they did to Hillary – after what they did and continue to do to Sarah! This is just the beginning- is this what it has to come to before American women will stand up? I have to wonder?

Obama vs. Carter

Update: I never said Jimmy Carter was perfect as a man or a president – the comparisaons here are strickly on the isssues I outlined.  I chose to discuss how I compare him to Obama on women- on christianity on being a politician.  I am not going into their entire lives but on how they view women – racism and thier friends. Just a simple comparison. I thought I made that clear. I apologize for any isunderstanding. 

I admire Jimmy Carter – I have read all his books and I so agree with his little author friend (whose name escapes me now died at 12 from MS) who named Carter “the peace maker”. The measure of a man it seems is different than the measure of a president and many realize this was a far greater former president than a president and let me tell you why. He was not a politician. He was and is simply a man of honor. So rare we did not know what to do with one!

Now Jimmy carter – if you bother to read his books will unfold for you what a real man looks like – I doubt many men can hold a candle to him and this current president has not nor ever will judging by all I have seen . You might say well wait he was a community organizer. He sure was- I’ll give you that but what I am about to show you is something I know a little more about so that is what I am going to talk about instead.

Here we have two Democrats. One grew up in the south where there was a whole lot of bigotry and hate toward blacks and he has a lifetime and a trail to prove how he handled that- one to be very proud of. Carter a white man never wrote any book espousing hate for the colored man, on the contrary he wrote many about how despicable this hatred was. The other who never lived in a ghetto that I know of and lived a rather quiet life wrote books showing distaste and distrust for the white man.

Both attended the same church for a long period of time – I am not even going to bother to recall the kind of preaching Obama sat and listen to for 20 years and then denied every being there while that was going on. Suffice it to say it was racist – if I felt racially hurt – it was racist!

Carter on the other hand sat in Baptist churches and took a very long time to realize that Christianity while teaching and preaching love thy neighbor as thyself was really not treating women as well as they should. Suffice it to say it was sexist – if I felt sexist and that hurt me – it was sexist!

As of where we are now. I got the following from an Obama supporter and it prompted me to make this comparison and ask a simple question. Carter after 60 some odd years in the Baptist church realized that organized religion is no friend to women and along with others formed The Elders,

Discrimination and abuse wrongly backed by doctrine are damaging society, argues the former US president.
“Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status …” (Article 2, Universal Declaration of Human Rights)

If Obama, without knowing the facts, can use his position to make a statement

WRONG! This is what a SEXIST looks like! Proof? Obama will not denounce the vulgarities used against women. Ms. Mag and NOW is wrong also for not calling out Mr. Obama for his failure to step up to the plate in the first place but this blatant mischaracteristion of Mr. Obama as a feminist in what appears to be a superman pose coming to save the day is a slap in the face. Obama is a failure to women's rights, MS. magazine a failure to uphold women's values and NOW and obvious sell-out to the left wing. all three join TMU Hall of Shame JULY 2009

 regarding racism where none exists, I have to wonder why with all the blatant sexism and misogyny displayed to our female candidates these past two years, Mr. Obama could not find it in his heart to say one word?

One has to ponder the reason? Is this racism? Is it sexism? Is it politics? Clearly – it is all three.

The following is a comment I found on my blog from worldtraveler – she gets it! It is time to stop the nonsense!

Stop the politics as usual! Stop the partisanship! Stop the race baiting and racism! And above all else- STOP SEXISM!

The Sarah Palin t-shirts are shameful and awful, as are the comments and jokes about her “sexiness” which are meant to degrade her. There was actually a porn film made with a Sarah Palin character in it. There was no outcry. Hillary Clinton was spoofed as well. We do not sexualize male politicians in order to humiliate them. These pornographic films only prove that porn is made to degrade women, and that is porn’s chief purpose. Porn is not simply about freedom in regards to sexuality.

I am a supporter of Obama, but I wish he would address the mean-spiritedness of the media on both sides of the spectrum. I wish he would denounce sexism against all women who are politicians. I wish he would criticize comments made about Palin looking “slutty”, the t-shirts, the insults about her mothering and her children, the comments that slam her for having five kids. Letterman’s octomom comment about her left me speechless. Same with the “family planning” jokes we hear going around. Do we have conservatives making jokes about women who are famous and who have openly admitted to having abortions? Can you imagine if that happened? I think the large women’s organizations would go crazy. But they stand by when liberals judge Sarah Palin for having five kids, or a later in life baby. They stand by when she is criticized for having a child with a disability as opposed to doing what they think she should have done- have an abortion like a “responsible” person would have done. Of course, what is missed here is the argument that could be turned around on them: Why can you say that, but you cannot say that women who have abortions are irresponsible because they did not take their birth control?

Let me be clear that I am pro-choice. However, I am no longer giving money to the large women’s Pro Choice orgs because they only defend some women against the sexist “You’re an irresponsible bad woman” argument and not all women. In fact, some liberal feminists have blogged about Sarah Palin’s irresponsibility for having the later in life baby. They do not see their own hypocrisy and they do not believe that women who have abortions and did not use birth control are irresponsible. Again, I am pro-choice. But they are unfair and do not acknowledge their bias.
