Sexualization of America 7-12 : but First Lady launches national anti-obesity campaign

Another Rant By: BettyJean Kling

With a soapbox like hers- I would have hoped the first lady might have launched an anti- sexploitation campaign against children instead. But I guess the obesity issue goes more hand in hand with her hubby’s obsession with passing A Health Care Bill. Meanwhile Ms. Obama, Ms O’Neil and Ms Greene- where are you on this woman’s right – human right?

Just like all the lefties who seem to forget women and children are falling victim to the greatest epidemic facing our nation and the world today- sexploitation and the resulting humiliation and degradation of human rights. Women and girls are victimized at alarming higher and higher numbers and all of this has taken the back seat to the courts, the first lady and the so-called women’s groups.

Instead of focusing on real violence against women and children and how to end it they are dancing around stupidity and collecting big bucks from those who are trading on the suffering of others while masquerading their false concern for health care which is nothing more than a bill cloaked in special interests. I have come to realized politicians from both sides do nothing without benefitting themselves and others more than the people they serve.

Thanks to the far right whose; keep em barefoot, pregnant and second class citizens has always handed them a fertile front the far left are especially fond of using and abusing women sexploitively to do so. This polarization has now become engrained in us so much so that we don’t remember being united – we have become accustomed to being 2 nations and this must stop.

Ask yourselves – if you really are that far to either side – if not come to the center and let’s stop them from dividing this country and destroying it.

The greatest problemour country is facing is not obesity , the greatest problem is facing the fall of our Republic, the destruction of our Constitution and the abrogation of our democracy as the politicians take away all our rights and turn us one against the other.

Meanwhile Ms. Obama, Ms O’Neil and Ms Greene- where are you on this woman’s right – human right?

Polls in NH Show Big Problem for Dems

Real Clear Politics is reporting that Republicans are polling very well against Democrats in New Hampshire – NH Poll: Dems Face A Thumpin’. If Democrats can’t learn a lesson from their defeat in Massachusetts they are likely to get another chance to learn that lesson in New Hampshire. New Hampshire’s state motto is ‘live free or die’, and it’s a fitting motto for the state. The overall philosophy of NH is ‘get out of my pocketbook, and get out of my personal life.’ New Hampshire is fiscally conservative, but not that socially conservative, and it is very independent. This is a pretty simple protest vote from New Hampshire, ‘Government, you’re spending too much money, and not helping our economic situation.’ When New England states turn red, it’s not because the people have been reborn as social conservatives, it’s because the government is causing more problems than they’re fixing. For NH it’s a pretty easy bet, that if the people are upset, then government is spending too much of their money.

First, the Senate race to replace Judd Gregg (R). Rep. Paul Hodes (D) trails former Attorney General Kelly Ayotte (R), and he doesn’t poll above 40 in any matchup, even with the lesser-known potential opponents he leads.

Ayotte (R) 41 — Hodes (D) 33 — Und 25
Hodes (D) 38 — Lamontagne (R) 29 — Und 30
Hodes (D) 34 — Binnnie (R) 30 — Und 33
Hodes (D) 36 — Bender (R) 27 — Und 35

In the first Congressional District, Rep. Carol Shea Porter sees her favorable rating dip to 35 percent while 40 percent now view her unfavorably, a net drop of 11 points from October. Right now four Republicans are likely running to challenge her, and she trails each one.

Guinta (R) 43 — Shea Porter (D) 33 — Und 22
Ashooh (R) 36 — Shea Porter (D) 33 — Und 28
Bestani (R) 36 — Shea Porter (D) 33 — Und 30
Mahoney (R) 39 — Shea Porter (D) 32 — Und 28

The second Congressional District sees an open seat race. Former Rep. Charlie Bass (R) is running to reclaim the seat he lost to Hodes in 2006; 2008 nominee Jennifer Horn (R) is also running again. On the Democratic side, attorney Ann McLane Kuster (D) will likely face 2002 nominee Katrine Swett (D). Only Swett holds a lead in potential matchups with both Republicans.

China Owns U.S. Debt and Now Holds U.S. Stock

China owns a huge amount the United State’s debt. Now it is being reported that they are purchasing stock in major American companies too…

Flush with cash despite the global economic downturn, China’s sovereign wealth fund quietly snapped up more than $9 billion worth of shares last year in some of the biggest American corporations, including Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and Citigroup.

Although most of the stakes were small, China Investment Corp., the government’s $300 billion investment fund, now owns stock in some of the best-known American brands, including Apple, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, Motorola and Visa, David Barboza and Keith Bradsher report in The New York Times.

The detailed list, which contained holdings totaling $9.6 billion as of Dec. 31, was disclosed Friday in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; it lists stakes only in companies traded in the United States.

The filing offers a glimpse of how China is trying to diversify its more than $2 trillion in foreign currency holdings with stock, rather than investing almost entirely in U.S. Treasury bonds and other debt securities issued by governments and by government-sponsored enterprises like Fannie Mae.

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao of China and other officials have repeatedly expressed worry about how the country’s holdings of U.S. Treasury securities could be hurt by inflation or by mounting U.S. debt. By buying the securities of international companies, China is trying to spread its fast-growing wealth more widely. It is also seeking to acquire strategic stakes in companies that could feed its hungry economy with a wide range of commodities.

Get we get some female representation in DC who can talk about more than Church or Abortion?

By Anonymous BettyJean Kling

The ad was a quick 30 second ad that only leftist groups could have known the underlying message was geared to them and they fell for the bait it hook, line and sinker and as usual made women look foolish. Boy am I glad I spoke up for those of us who were not going to be dragged into that foolishness! Of course Jehmu Greene had to find something objectionable so instead of finding the humor in the tackle she decided it was violence against women. Go figure!

Even the long-awaited Super Bowl ad from conservative group Focus on the Family came with a punchline Sunday night.

The 30-second “Celebrate family, celebrate life” ad starring Heisman winner Tim Tebow ended with a surprise — Tim Tebow tackling his mother after she says she nearly lost him during her pregnancy. The pair jokes that they have to be “tough” with all the family has been through. The commercial sparked debate before it was even broadcast, and some groups called for CBS not to air it.

The ad is the first such advocacy ad to appear in television’s most-watched broadcast, which draws about 100 million viewers. It aired early in the first quarter. The commercial, which shows just Tebow and his mother, Pam, against a white backdrop, does not contain an overt antiabortion message. Instead it sends people to Focus on the Family’s Web site, which tells more of the Tebows’ story and offers a more straightforward message.

The devout quarterback’s mother gave birth to him in the Philippines in 1987 after spurning a doctor’s advice to have an abortion for medical reasons.”I can remember so many times when I almost lost him,” Pam Tebow said in describing her pregnancy.

The ad was “very gentle”, which was surprising considering how much talk it generated before it even aired, said Tim Calkins, a marketing professor at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He said the use of humor helped make the ad more accessible — and not off-putting to most people — although the ad’s message was hidden, which makes it less effective and confusing to people who weren’t familiar with it.

“I think they took a very interesting strategy. It’s clearly an effort to steer away from controversy,” he said. “I suspect the people they were going after understood the message, but … for most people, I don’t think the ad really did a lot for them.”

But because the ad was so subtle and had so much mystery to it, it will get people whose minds are not made up about the abortion debate to evaluate the group’s agenda, said Charles R. Taylor, professor of marketing at Villanova School of Business.

“To the extent that there are people that they can influence this probably does a good job of driving them to the Web site and getting them to check it out. I think it’s much more effective than something more explicit would have been,” he said.

The Women’s Media Center, which had objected to Focus on the Family advertising in the Super Bowl, said it was expecting a “benign” ad but not the humor. But the group’s president, Jehmu Greene, said the tackle showed an undercurrent of violence against women.

“I think they’re attempting to use humor as another tactic of hiding their message and fooling the American people,” she said.

The ad didn’t draw much attention at the Underground Lounge in New York, where the game was on. Sarah Cashin, 39, a business manager, said she didn’t see what all the fuss was about.

“I didn’t find it offensive. I don’t quite understand why everyone was so up in arms about it,” she said.

All Jehmu Greene managed to do was draw attention to leftist women with one agenda and the ad drew attention to the divide. How’s that working out for ya Jehmu?

Join the majority United and let’s put women in the position of power and show the world our women can do more than fuss and fight over religion v.s. abortion. Women’s rights are human rights and women care about every issue. There are so many issues worth fighting for why are we fighting over that which divides us instead of that which empowers us to hold offices and effect change?

While I took plenty of heat from Women’s media Center and Jehmu directly , most of my readers are sick and tired of women’s groups focusing the country on the abortion issue as if that is all women worry about. Here is one such Democrat – pro choice women – one of thousands I associate with who is about as fed up as they come and ready to Tea Party for change of both parties and some common sense and above all 52% representation in DC who can talk about more than church and abortion rights!

“The DNC has manipulated left wing women into believing falsely that the sexist DNC is the party for women. It is not. I am pro-choice but I support Sarah Palin.  ROE versus WADE IS RULE OF LAW SO WHY DO THEY CONTINUE TO FOCUS THE CONVERSATION ON ABORTION AND IGNORE SO MANY OTHER CRUCIAL TOPICS? THE ANSWER IS MONEY. As long as the focus stays on abortion, the lefty women’s groups get their hush money from the DNC and tacitly agree to remain silent about domestic violence, lack of equal pay, Honor Killings and other topics. THIS IS THE SELL-OUT DIRTY DEAL THE LEFTY WOMEN’S GROUPS HAVE MADE WITH THE DEMOCRATS — THEY GET FUNDING AS LONG AS THEY REMAIN SILENT AND MIA. Where were these women’s groups when Hillary and Carolyn Maloney tried to pass the equal pay bill??? THEY WERE MIA. WHERE WERE THEY WHEN HILLARY WAS BEING ATTACKED BY THE MEDIA EVERY SINGLE HOUR? THEY WERE MIA. THEY ARE ROUTINELY MIA BECAUSE THAT IS THE DEAL THEY HAVE MADE WITH THE DEVIL.
Now watch these leftist women’s groups get used by the DNC to attack Sarah Palin as if the only thing women should ever be concerned about is abortion. Again, these leftist women are TOTAL SELL-OUTS FOR MONEY. They need to be exposed for what they are. The DNC will now pay them to attack Sarah so what do they do with all this money that is supposed to be for women’s rights? They use it to attack women!!!!! They use it to create divisions as they do their dance for the devil. “The love of money is the root of all evil.” ~ Anonymous

Tea Party People: Disaffected Americans chanting “Liars- Cheats- Thieves” from both parties need to be ejected

By BettyJean Kling

I was just told that PUMA’s are “Disaffected Democrats!”

That is absolutely right! Now some went back to being Dems and the rest have become tea party people – I am one! I was one such temporarily registered Democrat who voted Republican in the last election. Many Democrats, who were disgusted with the abrogation of democracy, fought against the stolen votes and the rigging of the caucus states and went to the Republicans. The rest were stupid enough to resist leaving their party they held their ground and they are the ones who just as expected went groveling back to the Dems and just gave us Obama. God forgive them for they knew not what they were doing.

Women who watched the election stolen out of the hands of the rightful candidate, the first women president, a historical and more qualified candidate did as they were told- like battered women they went home. Is that what the PUMA movement intended? Be it People United Means Action or the misnomer Party Unity My Ass, in the end they went home instead of standing up for their shero and voting against the cheater and the DNC for rigging the primary election against Hillary.

If you think this Tea Party is not at least half filled now with those same people you are very mistaken – I and millions of those same fighters who ditched the DNC are here! The Media will not admit this – nor will the republicans as they try to co-opt this movement. Don’t the Dems realize this? If so perhaps that is why the PUMA movement disappeared in favor of the Tea party! Those who insisted on kissing butt with Dems – have been left behind- the rest of us are Independents – and if you really believe the tea partiers are Republicans you do not know us at all.
I am a tea partier and I can assure you – I am no Republican. I have never been a Republican. Don’t listen to the news casters or even Sarah- there are wrong- we are Independents – we are not Republicans – we do not trust either party. We want them all gone! Just as the PUMA’s were filled with disaffected Democrats the Tea Party is filled with both disaffected Dems and Republiicans clearly the Tea Party is composed of Disaffected Americans!

We want all new blood in office and we want no one party to have power and we want term limits! We want our country back! That is what we want. Glen Beck just came up with a good line that I think I will co-opt- We, the Tea Party people are after “Liars- Cheats- Thieves” from both parties who need to be ejected. Tea Party People are Patriots who want our country back.

Sarah:’This is about the people’

By BettyJean Kling

I think Sarah Palin gets it! Yes she nailed Obama right between the eyes and he had it coming but she also made it clear that the Republicans deserve the same critique as well.

She seems to have redefined the word conservative for us and I like that. She included RIDs Republicans, Independents, and Democrats in there and you know I liked that. She understands that you can be from any party and still have conservative ideas about money and the Constitution. Hooray for Sarah.

She is a Republican and she obviously will remain so and she obviously believes the two party system had Jerry rigged things up so badly that only a Perovian-like pocketbook can ever dream to tackle a third party bid again.

She is right. After Perot’s bid I am sure both parties did whatever it took to make sure no one would ever get that close again so our best bet is my Patriot plan. Voter- Imposed Term Limits- Vote em out vote em all out. If they can’t stay in there long enough to game the system – they will go elsewhere!

I personally long for what we had in the beginning a conservative government and personal responsibility and freedom from religion or was it freedom of in any event – I like it before the witch hunts! Suffice it to say A government of , for and by the people – States rights not federal.

Sarah Palin may have declined to brand herself the leader of the tea party movement on Saturday, but she delivered a speech likely to earn her the title from many but make no mistake most of us want no part of either party. She was smart to urge us not to give in to either party and she recognized that we know that the Republicans are trying to move in while the Democrats are trying to pawn us off as Republicans. We are RIDs and the media and others would do well to understand that conservative means – we want to get back to basics. We are not and do not want to be Republicans we are Independents who will vote for the person in either party who we think will do the job and we will vote out all liars, cheats and scoundrels starting with Pelosi, Reid and others ASAP.

“This isn’t about money, this isn’t about a title,” Palin told an adoring crowd at the National Tea Party Convention. “I will live, I will die for the people of America. Whatever I can do to help. This movement is the future of politics in America.

I am not attacking another women – I am attacking a ridiculous message

Another Rant by: BettyJean Kling

Women’s rights are human rights but America’s Women Groups are silent the more important and most salient concern facing women today such as the slaughter at home and abroad in numbers too big to ignore and yet they are vocal to a fault about a commercial that for all intents and purposes most don’t understand the point of contention!

If I dare to call them on it and I am taken to task and accused of defeating my our stated purpose by attacking other women- Maybe it’s me but I am is not attacking the messenger – I am attacking their ridiculous message in the face of the agony of those already born and suffering! ! Girls and women are suffering slow agonizing death by stoning and or being buried alive, “honour” killings in Turkey, account for half of all the country’s murders. I am urging these groups to cease adding fuel to the fires of the conservative groups and place their at least some of their efforts of problems that affect all women such as VAW, sexism, misogyny in media and advertising, lack of justice in the courts, hate crime legislation and a myriad of other concerns like ERA which should remain front and center. Issues which are not as divisive and yet touch so many more women and girls and reach across the spectrum of religion and party and socioeconomic lines. Issues that break our hearts and are hardly if ever touched upon at all by the so-called mainstream women’s groups. These things are being to happen here in our own country but no matter where they occur – women’s rights are Human rights! The way the courts are beginning to treat women in this country – we are not far from finding our own daughters buried in our yards.

Think not- How many of our women are killed after the men are released from jail after beating them?

Turkish girl buried alive by father and grandfather for talking to boys

Girl, 16, killed in pit of shameA terrified girl of 16 was buried alive by her father and grandfather – as a punishment for talking to boys. The body of Medine Memi was found in a sitting position with her hands tied in a 6ft hole beneath a chicken coop. A postmortem showed she had been conscious when she was covered with dirt. One forensic investigator said: “What we found is blood-curdling.

“She had no bruises on her body and no sign of narcotics or poison in her blood – she was alive and fully conscious when she was placed into the pit.”
The medical examination revealed a large amount of soil in Medine’s lungs and stomach – indicating she had suffocated during a slow and agonising death.

The teenager’s remains were discovered outside her family’s house in the town of Kahta in south-eastern Turkey. She had been missing for 40 days and the hole had been cemented over. A coroner was told how desperate Medine repeatedly tried to get help from local police in the weeks leading up to her horrific death. Her father and grandfather are accused of killing her because her friendship with boys “brought dishonour on the family”.

Her distraught mother Immihan said: “She tried to take refuge at the police station three times, and she was sent home three times.” Medine’s father is reported as saying just before she vanished: “She has male friends. We are uneasy about that.” It later emerged that the girl’s grandfather, Fethi, was already under investigation by local detectives after her initial attempts to get help from the police.

Medine was entombed just inches from the family’s home. Planks of wood had been removed from around a narrow hole next to the breezeblock property. The gruesome manner of her death has shocked the nation and reopened the debate over honour killings. Official figures reveal there are more than 200 a year in the country. The barbaric punishments are often decided by a council of relatives, usually consisting of the elders of the family.

Plan B

By: BettyJean

Finally, we are getting somewhere with the military! Remember when the Army general commanding U.S. forces in northern Iraq implemented a policy that provided for court-martial and potentially even jail time if service members got pregnant – even if they were married? Not only was there public outrage over such a policy of  denying military service personnel  alternatives (aka: “Prosecution of Unplanned Pregnancy vs Choice in Reproductive Rights”) but, how foolish to implement a policy that would terminate 2 fully trained, committed soldiers with every pregnancy that occurred?

“Plan B One-Step” should have been “Plan A”… General, Sir

According to CNN, it has just been announced by the Department of Defense that all US military health facilities will now carry the emergency contraceptive pill know as “Plan B One-Step”.  Cynthia Smith, spokeswoman from the Defense Dept. told The Associated Press the decision came after a recommendation of an independent panel of doctors and pharmacists in November. Meeting minutes show the Department of Defense’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee voted for the allowance 13-2. The Pentagon’s decision comes less than two months after an Army general in Iraq made headlines when he included pregnancy as a punishable offense for both the women in his command and the men who got them pregnant.

Whether motivated by public, political or professional pressure or the embarrassment of implementing a disciplinary policy that makes about as much economic sense as a Health Care Reform plan with fewer services and no reform, it’s apparent that they did this to save face – particular that masculine face that just refuses to get it that every woman’s reproductive rights are a significant part of the world’s population equation. In any event, making Plan B One-Step finally readily available at least allows military women the same choice as non-military women – at least for now.

Why is there always a fight against a basic right called “Choice”?

Although the drug was ready in 1999, it has not been that long (2006) since women over 17 have been able to purchase it from a pharmacist without a prescription.  And there is still the outrageous issue of “conscientious objectors” who refuse to administer or sell the drug – which President Obama appears to fully support. Do these “conscientious objectors” refuse to work in hospitals that perform vasectomies or  for manufacturers of medical supplies used in the procedure, such as sutures, needles, gauze or anesthesia?

Question: How much landscape does the moral compass of any one group get to direct (control and dominate) before the obsession with another human being’s life choices is satisfied?

Answer: Apparently they want to control every square inch of the landscape of “choice” in women’s reproductive health involving preventing, averting or terminating pregnancy – even if it means that other women’ health issues, such as cervical cancer screenings, mammograms, and overall funding for women’ health services are used as the rope in this tug of war over “A Woman’s Right of Choice”.

Getting the Facts Right is also a “Moral Responsibility”

Anti-abortion activists have denounced the use of Plan B One-Step, claiming that the pill’s heavy doses of hormones amount to an abortion. These same detractors are also against any form of birth control whatsoever, deferring to “abstinence only” and having no more compassion for a teen pressured into sex, resulting in pregnancy after unwanted pregnancy, anymore than a  child raped, thus forced into pregnancy  – even if it means death of one or both the mother and child. (While the later may be argued as “rare” in the United States, our voices, as women, carry around the world.  Beyond the borders of our “moral arguments” are cultures where young girls and women look to the United States as the beacon of Human Rights – Women’s Rights – that will someday sweep across their landscapes and set them free from the horrors of oppression, brutality and sexual exploitation  that they face moment to moment in their lives – just because they are women with NO rights!)

And, why are gender-biased, Patriarchal religions still dominating this platform when the consequences are significantly different for women when it comes to reproduction? This is especially true for how gender-biased Catholicism when weighing in on the subject – placing for greater responsibility on women than men. The Catholics  have gone to great lengths to define reproductive development as beginning with the egg and the sperm and that to interfere with conception, in any form, is a form of abortion. From my years of study – I can attest that Catholic reproduction/conception dogma believes that ‘wasting the sperm in masturbation is a sin’.  Yet, where is that public literature? Where are the Pope and the Priests when it comes to publicly speaking out against circle jerks as an abomination to God, at best, and murder at worst?  Did anyone hear about Bishops going to Washington  to lobby for minimizing health care services to every man that jacks offs? No!

Imagine, hearing policy-makers and religious leaders preaching day and night about the immorality if spilling all that precious potential sperm life  in a gym towel, wash cloth or down the toilette! Where are the  Catholic and Protestant churches (that both make up “The Moral Majority”) on expanding the landscape of  the abortion debate to include “Abortion by Ejaculation, Prophylactics and The Last Second Pull Out”?  There isn’t a hell big enough to house such “hopeless, immoral sinners” as those who just can’t seem to leave it alone or get it that it’s abstinence or marital conception only!

Proponents of the “Morning After Pill” such as, Plan B Step-One, argue that such drugs do not cause an abortion, but rather significantly decreases the woman’s chances of becoming pregnant if taken shortly after sex. These drugs are are effective 80% of the time and relatively safe, according to research,. However, lack of information regarding the availability of these drugs has only fueled misinformation about how they work – which  (in Plan B, Plan B One-Step) is by preventing the sperm from reaching the egg and keeping a fertilized egg from attaching to the wall of the uterus (implantation). In others similar drugs, they use a combination of hormones to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg, keep a fertilized egg from attaching to the wall of the uterus,  as well as,  stopping the ovaries from releasing eggs (ovulation) that can be fertilized by sperm.

If preventing sperm and eggs from completing the process of “conception” is to be considered interference with the natural process of reproduction, thus “abortion”, then how can we not view in vitro fertilization just as invasive  and unnatural when it comes to reproduction? How many living eggs die after implantation from failed in vitro fertilization? Is this a form of “abortion”, as well? We need to get our facts straight!

How many traumatized rape victims lives can literally be turned around by this pill if administered as soon after the rape as possible? How many abortions can be eliminated? How can we even argue over a solution that could prevent tossing out a baby by preventing sperm from fertilizing an egg?! Clearly, arguments against this pregnancy-prevention solution is purely grounded in Patriarchal, religious legalism that must be abolished for the sake of women, girls and societies all over the world! This plan is one answer that is a fair solution for both sides of the abortion debate!

Freedom of Choice

I have gathered some information from the Mayo clinic for my readers.  I would suggest that anyone considering Plan B or any other birth Control to do your own research and follow your own church, if applicable (that is also a right of “freedom of choice”)  or do your scientific and medical research instead. In either event – do not let anyone else tell you what to do. Only you have to live with your choice!

Morning-after pill: Emergency birth control

Question

What can you tell me about the morning-after pill? How does it work?

Answer

From Sandhya Pruthi, M.D.

The morning-after pill — a form of emergency birth control — is used to prevent a woman from becoming pregnant after she has had unprotected sex. Morning-after pills are generally considered safe, but many women are unaware that they exist.

Here’s how the morning-after pill works. Human conception rarely occurs immediately after intercourse. Instead, it occurs as long as several days later, after ovulation. During the time between intercourse and conception, sperm continue to travel through the fallopian tube until the egg appears. So taking emergency birth control the “morning after” isn’t too late to prevent pregnancy.

The active ingredients in morning-after pills are similar to those in birth control pills, except in higher doses. Some morning-after pills contain only one hormone, levonorgestrel (Plan B, Plan B One-Step), and others contain two, progestin and estrogen. Progestin prevents the sperm from reaching the egg and keeps a fertilized egg from attaching to the wall of the uterus (implantation). Estrogen stops the ovaries from releasing eggs (ovulation) that can be fertilized by sperm.

The morning-after pill is designed to be taken within 72 hours of intercourse with a second dose taken 12 hours later. Plan B One-Step works with one dose. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, dizziness, menstrual changes and headache. According to the manufacturer, the morning-after pill is more than 80 percent effective in preventing pregnancy after a single act of unprotected sex.

Morning-after pills aren’t the same as mifepristone (Mifeprex), the so-called abortion pill. Emergency contraceptive pills such as Plan B prevent pregnancy. The abortion pill terminates an established pregnancy — one in which the fertilized egg has attached to the uterine wall and has already begun to develop.

Plan B is available to women and girls age 17 and older without a prescription at most pharmacies. You must show proof of age to purchase Plan B. For girls age 16 and younger, Plan B is available only with a doctor’s prescription.   Read More…”The Morning After Pill” (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/morning-after-pill/an00592)

McCain on Greta Van Sustren’s Show

A couple quick points. First, Senator McCain (and Greta) hit the nail on the head about the government spending money on a Super Bowl ad. That’s simply money that could be much better spent. Second, you would be hard pressed to find two people like Senator McCain and Secretary Clinton who picked up and moved on any better/faster after a failed presidential bid. There are numerous of examples of politicians who faded into the background after losing the presidency. In this last election the defeated candidates moved on quicker than probably any others in American history.

Finallly, my favorite line (paraphrased) from the Republican convention was when Governor Palin said, ‘Harry Reid said he can’t stand Senator McCain. What I think he meant to say was that he can’t stand up to Senator McCain.’ Having been their, I can say the crowd gasped then jumped to their feet and cheered, and for good reason.

Another rant by BettyJean Kling

For the first time in my life I am not so sure I am proud to be an American today.

I was sitting here at my computer having just come home from the hospital after hearing news that my daughter may never come out of her coma. I have been crying all the day long and I have no place to put these tears or this fury and as I sit here trying to make sense of it all. I read blog after blog and life is going on for others and it is politics as usual and my heart screams “what about Louisa?” Two weeks ago the blogs were full of her story and everyone was all about what could we do to stop this violence against women. Not just for Louisa and not just for Denise but for all women. Last night I posted 4 stories from one small county about violence against women.  I got one friggen comment, granted it’s a holiday- but it is no holiday for the abused and dying – trust me – we do not have a day to waste not a minute.

As I searched the blogs to see who else is writing about violence against women instead of the damned birth certificate that will never yield a damned change in Obama’s presidency, and searched the blogs to see who else is writing more about how to stop violence in the media and/or advertising instead of more about why we should not have funded the already funded bailout. I did manage to find one blog http://guerillawomentn.blogspot.com/ And the Number One Sexist Ad of 2008 Is. . .

This ad shows the following graphic of a gang rape intended to sell shoes to women. Are women actually buying these friggen Dolce and Gabbana shoes? Please tell me women are not actually supporting manufacturers who depict violence against women! What kind of a message are we sending men- that we like to be gang raped and pay big money to dress for it?

Are we going to tolerate this? How long are we going to tolerate this? Would anyone else tolerate this? Would blacks tolerate their people in ads in nooses or a white women chaining up a black one as in the Remy martin ad shown below?

Why do our women tolerate this or better yet why do we buy these products; Do we need this perfume Channel, do we need these Dolce and Gabbana shoes, or Cavalli products?

Let me point out a few more as found in a piece Huffington covered, Five Sexist Trends the Advertising World Just Can’t Shake http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alex-leo/five-trends-the-advertisi_b_149354.html

Alex Leo a female writer starts it off with this gem of an opening- I am not even going to touch that one it is so ridiculous first female top chef and all- hahahaha- wow that sure was a big year for us gals but she really does nail it on the five graphics – she is right on target – I suggest you read every word and then join our army and let’s get moving!!! These ads also include Remy Martin, BMW, Nikon and Mitchum.

A A few weeks ago I wrote about a Remy Martin on the subway they have plastered the ad74walls with posters depicting a white woman with a chain wound around her neck and a black woman “playfully” holding the chain in her mouth, as if about to yank it.  I got few if any comments on that post- why? where is the outrage- how many of you bought and gave Remy as gifts?

these women are obviously putting on a show for an outsider, not having a passionate lesbian love affair for themselves. These types of ads gain traction in cultural periods of female advancement–capturing the fantasy of “putting us back where we belong.”

ad52Not to be outdone Nikon is selling cameras by bringing us girl on girl action- or as Leo writes  regarding the camera giant “a staple of the photography world … should be held to a higher standard than Tila Tequila. There are many meanings to the term corporate responsibility and one of them is not to fetishize female sexuality.”

What message are we sending our youngsters about females?

Suddenly, in the background I hear the National Anthem — and as the Rose Bowl starts I quickly and automatically jumped up as always and there behind me my daughter rouses from her half sleep and she too jumps up and as we stand there with our hands over our hearts listening — as we always have — we notice something is not quite the same.

Something just does not feel quite right and as the anthem our voices trail off asn we find our selves repeating weakly “in the land of the free and the home of the brave”  we look into each other’s teary eyes and we hug each other and we know the land of the free and the home of the brave does not protect its women!

They protect criminals, untrustworthy politicians, each other for the right price but of all the human rights they claim to protect – they do not protect women nor do they even attempt to pretend to. Animals have more rights in this country and get better media coverage when mistreated then do the millions of slaughtered women. Where is the outrage from our women, from our mothers, from our sisters, from our daughters?

If the government and the media don’t care surely we do? Surely we care ? We are the majority of this population -we are the reproducers- surely we care-it is not normal for us not to care – it does not even make sense – it does not fit with survival- surely we care! Even wild animals care and try to defend and protect their own – what are we less than wild animals ? Please tell me we care? Are we lambs being quietly led to slaughter without so much as a whimper

So- for the first time in my life I am not so proud to be an American.  Hell- I am not sure I am very proud to be called woman if I am going to be one of a few ad61lone voices crying out for justice while the rest of womankind sits and lets them do this to us and our daughters. Is this how we want our daughters depicted?  If we do nothing then we have been part of sexualizing and/or slaughtering and killing every daughter who has ever been slaughtered because we have not risen en mass and said no more.

Please – Now is the time- I can not say this any more clearly- I did not think my daughter would lay dying from a gunshot to the head tonight – next it could be you or yours. Please stand with me now!
