Women settle for crumbs at the liberals table as Dems continue war against women.

BettyJean Downing

VAWA watered down as part of the war against women, Democrats set the table and Republicans drink the kool-ade!
100 Years Ago, women took to the streets and demanded the right to vote. What will you fight for this year? We the women of the free world are the majority, and yet not only are we not covered under the Constitution of the United States, but we ostensibly need a Violence Against Women Act to protect us. Yet with the new act, we are forced to share what little funds we have with Gay men and non-citizens, as well as with any other peoples our government can find to share the already paltry sum amongst!

Still hanging after all these years? Free us now! ERA to free women - we are the niggers of the world!

Still hanging after all these years? Free us now! ERA to free women – we are the niggers of the world!

How disgusting that we, the women of the greatest country on earth, need an act specifically created to address the violence directed against us in the first place. But now, to have to share it with others totally negates the reason we fought for specific protection in the first place.
Is there nothing our government holds sacred for the female majority of the population? Are there not hate crimes in effect for gays? Are there no other recourse acts to be drafted for others in need that we women, who die at the rate of 4 a day, need to share our pitiful sum, stretch our already overtaxed resources to the breaking point, when not even a dent has been made all these years in lowering the staggering numbers of women who suffer and even die from gender related violence?
What was wrong with the Violence Against Women Act before the Democrats decided to alter it and force the Republicans to sign on or risk being held responsible for denying women protection? Once again, women are being used as pawns. And once again, we settle for crumbs at the Liberal table!
Where oh where were the women while this travesty against women was going on? How many of our own daughters must be slain, battered, and raped before we realize that we have once again laid down for the man and his political machine rather than for our own benefit?
CRY for the women who are dying so that the Liberal can continue to allow havoc to be wreaked upon women and blame it on a war coming from someplace else, when it actually comes straight from the liberal table set by the Democrats and their molls!
Shame on the conservative men and women who refused to step up and fight for all women—who refuse to expose this travesty for what it is. Shame on all those who repeatedly sell out women in the name of government!
Give us an Equal Rights Amendment. Free Us Now!

Title IX, Title X, ERA, Equal Pay, PP & Abortion, Liberals political football !

BettyJean Downing

To hear the Democrats tell the story – you would never know that Title IX, Title X, pledges to support the ERA, Equal Pay, Planned Parenthood funding and Abortion were all started and/or passed under Republican administrations! That’s right they were 70’s advances signed into law that the dems takecredit for today!

When leftist women gather to talk to women about women’s rights – they rarely talk to all women about all women and clearly they are not about uniting women for the benefit of all women. Instead they take over women’s groups and radicalize them around issues that turn away the majority of women and turn women against each other using rhetoric that convinces women that we are enemies. These so called feminists insist women should have a choice- but it damned well better be the choice they have listed on their agenda- – you had better be Pro-abortion- pro gay rights- and a Democrat! What could be more anti feminist than that?

They have no intention of being ‘national women’s organizations’ speaking for all women. They rely instead on the divisive issues that tore the woman’s movement to shreds. The “lib” movement that both parties supported and would have secured equal rights for women in the 70’s , even included a woman’s right to choose abortion- was usurped and turned into a bra burning, man haters club that created a civil war between the sexes instead of equalizing the sexes. What could be more anti feminist than that?

Do a little homework and see what the radicals did to the ERA movement and how they keep the majority from coming together for all women by obfuscating the truth and playing games with semantics rather than finding common ground. See how they work for their own good at the cost of the good of all women. What could be more anti feminist than that?

See how they infiltrated the movement pitting woman against woman, against man and even against children. If you are invited to a women’s group – they will mask it with talk of ERA but all you will see and hear about is abortion, birth control pills and same sex marriage. Is that all women are about? What could be more anti feminist than that?

Can’t we have a group where women are seen as complete entities beyond their reproduction? They ask “if we can’t control our bodies- what can we control?” I respond- control your bodies, you have been since the 70’s- now shut the hell up and let the rest of us have speak our minds too without being ridiculed by the likes of you. You do not speak for 40% of America’s women and I sure in the hell want my rights- my choices, my voice which does not include being called a slut or a voting vagina!!

These radicals have us all painted as man hating, sexual wacko’s who care about nothing but same sex marriage and abortions! What could be more anti feminist than that? The very word feminist which should suggest appreciates or respects females instead connotes radical man haters. Thank you very much, now there is no word for those of us who simply want equality and reverence!

In case you think I am stretching the truth about the radical wacko’s hijacking the movement and tearing it apart-  read this major feminist’s work and see why so many women left the movement.

Shulamith Firestone “The Dialectic of Sex”

Published in 1970, her “The Dialectic of Sex” was a key feminist work that presaged today’s issues surrounding birth and science. The book influenced her feminist contemporaries as well as those who followed behind her.

“No one can understand how feminism has evolved without reading this radical, inflammatory, second-wave landmark,” said Naomi Wolf.

According to Amazon.com, “The book synthesizes the work of Freud, Marx, de Beauvoir and Engels to create a cogent argument for feminist revolution. Identifying women as a caste, she declares that they must seize the means of reproduction – for as long as women (and only women) are required to bear and rear children, they will be singled out as inferior.”

According to Wikipedia, “She advocated the use of cybernetics to carry out human reproduction in laboratories as well as the proliferation of contraception, abortion and state support for child-rearing; enabling [women] to escape their biologically determined positions in society. Firestone described pregnancy as ‘barbaric’… . Among the reproductive technologies she predicted were sex selection and in vitro fertilization.”   Firestone wrote in “The Dialectic of Sex”: “…[J]ust as to assure elimination of economic classes requires the revolt of the underclass (the proletariat) and, in a temporary dictatorship, their seizure of the means of production, so…the elimination of sexual classes requires the revolt of the underclass (women) and the seizure of control of reproduction… . The reproduction of the species by one sex for the benefit of both would be replaced by (at least the option of) artificial reproduction: … [T]he dependence of the child on the mother (and vice versa) would give way to a greatly shortened dependence on a small group of others in general… . The division of labour would be ended by the elimination of labour altogether (through cybernetics). The tyranny of the biological family would be broken.”

I personally don’t give a fig who you sleep with or what you do with your body- but I care how you present the rest of us. SHUT UP and stop dancing around in front of the white house dressed up as a vagina! That is a pitiful representation of women- and you do not represent me!

Men have been running this country for hundreds of years and have yet considered it necessary to dress up as PRICKS and dance around Washing DC to elicit support or votes!

Lowering ourselves with “I am more than a VAGINA” shirts or “Vagina’s Vote” umbrella’s does not bode well for womankind, it makes us look ridiculous and unintelligent. Alice Paul was Intelligent- as was Susan B. Anthony and many other suffragists who these Janey come lately’s have a lot to learn from.  Displaying a little more class and a lot less crass would go a long way to earning the respect needed to be taken seriously and to win elections!

The last time I attended the “We Are Woman” rally for women’s rights on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington – See more at: http://2passera.org/#sthash.dmIrZvaF.dpuf , I left disgusted and ashamed to be photographed or associated with the likes of some of these women who claim to represent America’s women. Further, Apparently we disagree on What women’s rights mean. I am looking to pass the ERA for Equal Rights. They DO NOT have it on their table. This was a DEMOCRATIC political rally ! These LIBERAL activists came dressed up as fallopian tubes and vagina’s shouting obscenities on the West Lawn, cursing men and Republicans while insisting there is a right wing war on women conveniently forget to mention where all the women’s rights and advances of the 70’s originally stemmed from.

Sandy Oestreich, Pres., National Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) Alliance http://2passera.org/ and myself were the only two of a thousand or so who came to discuss rights of the whole woman. We had 5 minutes out of 5 hours to do so. http://2passera.org/

They forget to tell you – women from both sides of the aisle were once united. AND they forget to explain it was not the Democrats that passed these advances they brag about attaining in the 70’s. Instead they lead you to believe ( see pic left alluding to 73 as if Republicans were not the ones who passed these laws for women!) Instead they would have you believe- The republicans do and have always hated women and kept them “in their place” while the Democrats have always been the party of women. Yeah that was real obvious when they skewered Hillary in 2008 but that is another story. And they are about to uncurl Debbie W S’s hair next!

Before you believe the drivel from any party about the other party – do your research- and stop believing what the media tells you. Either be informed or stop voting. Ignorance is not bliss and the rest of us are paying for voter ignorance! For those of you who give a damned – read on!

The Republican Administration gave women Title IX, Title X, the ERA proposal, Equal Pay, Planned Parenthood funding and Abortion. That’s right — it was passed by a Republican administration!

“Why were we lambasting Romney about birth control and abortion during the 2012 election ?”

For Example: Former Senate candidate, Mrs. Lenore Romney, whose son has accepted the Republican Party’s presidential nomination 2012, was part of an effort to get a plank in the platform calling for legal abortion., as was Mrs. Eisenhower.

It was the Republicans’ “four more years” gathering for President Richard M. Nixon, Watergate was a break-in not linked yet to full-on corruption… It’s right there in the papers!… What’s also right there is a snapshot of women’s roles and rights under revision in society — we called it “women’s lib” back then — and the Republican Party’s response to the change underway.

“The Administration will . . . continue its strong efforts to open equal opportunities for women, recognizing clearly that women are often denied such opportunities today,” it begins, and then pledges to support passage of the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, fight against sex discrimination and for equal pay, and appoint women to positions of greater power, including to the Supreme Court.

For the GOP in 1972, these were not just promises: The ferment and bra-burning of the 1960s were consolidated into real change in the ’70s. The executive and legislative branches already had written historical gains for women into policy and law, and the Supreme Court the next year would make equal job access and the right to abortion the law of the land.

By the time of the convention, the Nixon administration had passed and implemented Title IX, which expanded educational and athletic opportunities for millions of girls and women, and Title X, which made federal funding available for family planning for the first time. That funding, which House Republicans keep trying to strip away from Planned Parenthood, passed the Senate unanimously and the House with broad bipartisan support in 1970.

The Nixon White House required government contractors to use affirmative action to hire women; more women were in management in federal Washington than ever before.

Read the story from one who was there: A look back at 1972 GOP convention, and emergence of ‘women’s lib’

By Ann Gerhart: Forty years ago, I went to my first political convention as part of the official delegation from Pennsylvania.

The advances we need will not come from division, and don’t be fooled neither party wants us, the Majority united, but united we will accomplish all that we need. What we need is Equality under the Constitution. All else will come when we have full citizenship and most of all RESPECT!

IMAGINE what we can accomplish united into the majority we are instead of divided into 2 political minority camps?

The ERA = “EQUALITY OF RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR ABRIDGED BY THE UNITED STATES OR BY ANY STATE ON ACCOUNT OF SEX.”

“It’s about EQUALITY “

BettyJean Downing

I get weary trying towomen-logoOrtiz figure out a new and different way to say – “It’s about EQUALITY”, How many different ways can one present such a simple concept? If you are a liberal you claim to understand this principle,  yet you are intolerant of a multitude of persons and ideals of half of your countrypersons.  If you are a conservative, likewise you claim to know God and follow his precept that All Men (and women) are created equal, yet you treat the majority of our citizens as beneath you at best.

What a conundrum the two party system has inflicted upon our nation, successfully offering a supposedly free nation two options and only two, which are diametrically opposed yet the same in terms of standing as an antithesis to the precepts the Constitution was written to promote. Such is the frailty of mankind. Womankind, on the other hand, seems helpless to grab the brass ring.

I must admit, when I witness the vote results, I often ponder why we allow everyone to vote, and I can easily understand why the founders elected to restrict the vote to those with enough sense to understand what they were actually voting for. Initially, the founders were interested in creating a country greater than the sum of its parts, a country free from oppression, freedom to worship so that no one would be burdened by the religious dogma of another. And yet here we are with part of the country hopelessly liberal and another part that tries to bully everyone into practicing their religious, personal, and moral beliefs. Our Constitution states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion—that means either for or against. Congress and the legal process is to be silent regarding religion! Only then are we guaranteed freedom from government sanctioned religious or anti-religious oppression.

Neither side will change the other so why are we fighting losing battles? We do it for the sport of the political parties and for no other reason. In these battles only the politicians get fat! In terms of good for the country, we need to go back to the basics. The founders understood that mankind, if left to their own devices, is selfish and would vote for themselves rather than the good of the country. I will not bore you with a lengthy list of quotes to that effect nor will I remind you of the promises politicians make just to win elections.

Let’s consider for a moment America, the land of the free, two hundred years ago verses 2014. Briefly, the freedom desired was from the oppressive reign of a King, freedom of religion, and freedom from the oppression of an almost caste system that prevented upward societal mobility. Learned men fought and died to form a more perfect union offering opportunity to all. But where blacks, women, and Indians etc., were concerned, the Constitution did not apply at that time. But, the American Constitution, presented by brilliant men, formed a Republic that gave citizens an opportunity to evolve and perfect over time. The framers of our Constitution warned of greed and included checks and balances to protect American rights and freedoms. They warned that freedom would be hard to keep because mankind is (in my words) selfish!

America was the first successful Revolution to remain free to date, and just as freedom was difficult to gain and keep, many Americans have continued to fight for equality, and we are making slow gains. What part of equality do we still not understand that we understood when we passed the 13th amendment?

To say that black men were entitled to the same status as white men but to totally ignore all women—the majority of the population—was ludicrous at best. Then to wait 50 more years to give women the vote and still not spell out they are citizens in that Constitution is criminal, and to deny women equality under that Constitution, even as it has been amended to include all others besides the majority, is unfathomable.

Our discrimination laws do not include sex! In other words, there are serious legal consequences for discriminating against anyone, unless she is a white woman. Ironically, if she is black, gay, Latino, Islamic, or some minority she may—and I say MAY have some recourse, if she is fortunate enough to catch the eye of the ACLU—If not, she, like the rest of the majority of our nation, is out of luck. Why? We women—52% of the population—have no Constitutional rights! Our government forced Iraq to set up equal rights for women in their Constitution but does not grant America’s own women the same. Our government forced Japan to do the same, in 1945, but has refused American women since we asked for ERA in the 1970’s.

If you think the ACLU is on your side—think again! If you think either political party is on your side, think again. If you think a woman’s group from either side is on your side, think again! Where are they when women need them to save lives? Where is either side when women need them? Who is standing up against violence against women in a meaningful way? Have the death rate from Intimate violence dropped in all these s years? It has not! Is that the banner they carry? Was it front and center on anyone’s platform lately? Which party is promoting ERA on their platform? Which party is promoting stronger laws to protect all women or educate them about all of their rights in matters of life and death? Who is educating mothers on our rights to our children in our courts? Who is helping us when we are destitute and facing divorce against a powerful abuser who wants to take our children and a corrupt court system that turns a blind eye?  I say we need more than just birth control pills and abortions—we need equality. We need for abusers to know they will be prosecuted. We need stronger laws and equal pay, not just the right to sue if we find out we were not paid fairly. Power still lies in the hands of male lobbies in our family courts. Our women and children are still the most vulnerable and the least protected in this the 21st Century.

The ones who stand up and fight for their rights are the only ones who are heard:

An example of what is in Congress right now:

Gang of Eight Framework for Immigration Reform

“The framework is designed to satisfy the demands of illegal aliens and their advocates, and business interests that want more cheap labor. It includes nothing that would benefit law-abiding American workers and taxpayers. American taxpayers will be saddled with staggering costs in the future as millions of poorly skilled illegal aliens become eligible for government services and programs.   PR Newswire (http://s.tt/1z3ym)

In the news right now:

“The pulse of equality is strong in America, and today it beats a bit faster with news that the Boy Scouts may finally put an end to its long history of discrimination,” said Chad Griffin of the Human Rights Campaign, a major gay-rights group.

While there is still a long way to go for many others, we women have stepped up over the centuries to work toward equality and civil rights for others. Isn’t it time that we step up and ask that we as a group, be counted, and ask that others support us?

We are the majority, and yet, we as “women” we are the only group that is not covered under the Constitution nor protected from hate crimes, or protected from discriminatory language. That means we just don’t count in America! Whose fault is that? It is our own fault. As the majority we have successfully fought for, and won, many battles for minority groups—now it is our turn to stand up and ask for our equal rights too! Women, we must stand up and demand that we will no longer tolerate inequality on any level.

We need 3 more states to ratify the ERA—get involved. It is about EQUALITY! We have been complacent long enough. ERA now!

Blackout: Is abortion ever murder to a LIBERAL?

Barbara Bassett

Kermit Gosnell is an abortionist on trail for murder and the liberal media can’t figure out how to write the word abortionist and murderer in the same sentence. They can’t figure out how to describe hundreds of infant body parts in jars, bodies in garbage bags,in freezers when they’ve spent so much time describing them as “blobs” and “masses of cells”. They can’t justify the horrific photos of infanticide by equating them to their feel good mantra of “its all about a women’s reproductive rights”. Because maybe you would question how exactly do all those bloody scenes that included the deaths, forced sterilzation and infections of women actually relate to a women’s reproductive rights.
They can’t post a photo of a born alive infant and write a obituary that says died from having his doctor make the “choice” to cut his spinal cord.
They can’t figure out how to explain why it was scissors  that murdered a 8 month “screaming” fully viable infant when lawmakers are demanding laws to protect “our children” from being murdered by guns. They can’t explain why 5 year olds murdered in school are “our most precious assets” yet a 8 month born alive murdered on a mad mans butchering table isn’t worth a damn.
They can’t figure out how to explain Gosnells comments “that this baby could walk to the bus stop” during a “snipping” procedure that is defined as “a women’s right” and not a survivors right to medical care because if you asked why no medical care for an infant born alive during an abortion
they would then have to explain Obama voted against the born alive infant protection act calling it “a burden on a mother” and they can’t do that because then you would know he did indeed do that and his mantra of saving “just one child” would be called hypocritical. They can’t explain why these minority low income murders haven’t warranted “if I had a son he would look like.. the hundreds of photos in evidence.
They can’t explain why nail salons are regulated but abortion clinics aren’t because then they’d have to explain to you that regulating  abortion clinics is refered to as “a war on womens reproductive rights” the Left uses regulation as a weapon and the Right fears their weapon.
Women’s rights groups are blacking out the  Gosnell story also because they can’t explain how  they will fight for womens right to birth control and to abortion but not for a womens right to be educated on both nor a womens right to have an abortion in a regulated facility just like a hospital as a women who chooses to deliver her baby does.
Since its all about womens rights why aren’t they speaking about her right to be protected from the monsters who prey on her vulnerability. These Women they profess to fight for are being abused.
What happened to the mantra of “legal, safe and rare”?
Some of those who have come forward were 15 years old. One describes 8 abortions and being told that was “normal” she is now in her twenties and can’t conceive. These young girls are our children and why are strangers in a “reputable” clinic advising our children on abortion without our knowledge. Ask Planned ParentHood and liberals who lobbied against parental notification. Where’s the outrage that a 15 year old girl was drugged and tied to a bed because she Changed her mind? She’s also sterile and dreams about the baby she saw born and murdered.
You’ve come along way Baby.
As I write the left women blame the right and grasp at the fear factor..shocking is there is not one mention of the horrors, plenty of “this is what happens when women are forced into back alleys by the right. Not shocking is that they would ignore the facts..this was an 20 year established legal 1.3 million dollar womens “health” clinic, Gosnells fees were as high as 1,600 hardly a “back alley’ abortion clinic and most of his patients were black low income women, white women had a seperate room as “they were most likely to report” says Gosnell.
So were are the minority leaders on the left? Trayvon Martins death warranted Sharpton, Jackson and every liberal I know to march in protest. The media coverage was non stop yet hundreds of mutilated black babies in the garbage..crickets.
And the right runs away in fear of the explosive racial keg that is.. abortion.
The silence is deafening but if they explain you get to ask questions. You get to ask WTH is a partial birth abortions? And then you would be horrified to know and even more horrified to know your taxpayer dollars fund the likes of Gosnells house of horrors.
.. and maybe the truth is many of you don’t want it explained but I believe the blackout is directed at the majority of you who are unaware of what “late term and partial birth abortions” mean The Gosnell story opens the floodgates in very graphic details, horrifying images and they all know that a story about a puppy found in a garbage bag generates outrage and they know if you knew hundreds of viable babies were found in garbage bags that would generate outrage and that outrage would force a conversation about abortions and conversations about abortions would open the flood gates
to what we are capable of and what we are capable of is  horrifying and horrifying would bring about changes to a BIllION dollar industry and effect the politicans who depend upon the millions of abortion issue voters, a political party that depends upon “the  war on women”, the hundreds of women’s groups that rely on “reproductive rights” to divide women, minority leaders who divide and profit
Because in the end its not about the women or infanticide its about politics and money and votes and GREED.
Its best you’re  kept in the dark.
But some of us are shedding light on Gosnell and we are tweeting, facebooking,  blogging so this horror opens a dialogue to who decides that a football players imaginary girlfriend is news and Gosnells House of Horrors is not and more importantly it must Open a dialogue to what is morally unacceptable.
Everyone of us no matter where you stand on the issue should be outraged for so many reasons.
Barbara

Eve Ensler: ONE BILLION RISING, 2/14/13 V-Day’s most ambitious campaign yet

Eve,
I absolutely spread the word far and wide and made sure all my contacts did the same. I am writing to share how shocked I was that in all my years advocating for women and working in the filed  fighting violence against women – that this is the first time I have heard about ONE BILLION RISING! What a fantastic idea- thank you and please help me and other groups understand how to help make sure every woman and girl is aware of it in time to participate in ONE BILLION RISING 2014.

I am concerned that all women’s groups are not united and therefore our rally cries are not loud enough and powerful enough to shake the foundations of power against us. What can we do to enlist other women’s groups to engage in each other’s causes, to encourage all women to participate in every movement out there that empowers women? What can we do together to show the powers that be we really are a power to be reckoned with? As a whole, women do not present a united front; instead we are the women against violence, mothers against drunks, LGBT, Pro Life, Pro Choice, Anti War etc. etc. When will we just be the majority that we are? When will we again present ourselves as the WOMEN of America

You are absolutely right 33% of us will be beaten or raped, 4 a day in this country are murdered at the hands of a loved one who had beaten them before and was released to kill. About 50 % of us are adamantly against the other 50% politically, which mockingly keeps us politically weakened and unable to hold positions of power at home, on the job or in politics. An even larger percent ( I estimate upwards of 85%) of us is powerless financially because we are not united enough to grab and hold the power to self govern.

We stand at the point of sink or swim, we rally for particular issues and it’s like missing the forest for the trees. We are woman- we are the majority. The violence stops when we have our rights and full power. We won’t have that till we stop fighting amongst ourselves over the issues that were manufactured to keep us divided and fighting amongst ourselves. That old “a house divided against itself cannot stand” is true. Let history teach us and others that united we can overcome. We women are equal and can stand ready to lead and rule our own lives. Let’s demand respect, full equality, an end to violence can only come when we are united as the majority, powerful and voting as one block demanding full rights to self govern. Let the issues remain issues to be dealt with when we are in the position to govern but lets first get in the position to self govern.

Women’s History Month begins on Friday, March 1, 2013 (in 8 days) and ends on Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Let’s demand a slot every day in honor of women’s history!

BettyJean
Thank you for joining ONE BILLION RISING, V-Day’s most ambitious campaign yet.

When we started V-Day 14 years ago, we had the outrageous idea that we could end violence against women. Since then, hundreds of thousands of V-Day activists in audiences and on stages in over 140 countries have come together to demand an end to violence against women and girls. The funds we’ve raised together have kept organizations’ doors open, and the issue front and center in local media.

But still today, the United Nations states that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime that’s more than one billion women and girls alive today.

V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, showing them exactly what one billion looks like.

ONE BILLION RISING is a promise that on February 14th, 2013, we will ensure that millions of women and men rise up around the world to say, “ENOUGH. The violence ends NOW.”

BettyJean, there is so much more to come. But for right now, you can help us launch ONE BILLION RISING with a few simple actions:
Share ONE BILLION RISING with your networks
Sign up for our text message updates in the US by texting BILLION to 50555
Follow V-Day on Facebook and Twitter

ONE BILLION RISING will make the earth move by uniting us through dance across every country.

BettyJean, I look forward to dancing, striking and rising to end violence against women and girls together with you.

In solidarity,

Eve Ensler

Susan B. Anthony Birthday Remembrance

February 15, 2013

Susan Bsusieb1877-smrownell Anthony, born 193 years ago today, dedicated her life to winning for women their political, civil, economic and educational rights. One Woman can do anything, but united we end this war between us & against all womankind- let’s UNITE and end it once and for all! IMAGINE the majority United! ~BettyJean Downing 2010~

ERA: Only Women can end the “War on Women!”

BettyJean Downing- Kling

ERA is a Bi-Partisan Issue! NOW is the TIME! Women must unite and take advantage of this great opportunity to force both parties to end the “War on Women.” American women need to call BOTH the Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate and tell them to pass these bills! WE need to tell them the war is over and we are united for the benefit of all women. Do we want the ERA or do we want a Democrat only sponsored bill? The Left has been lobbying the left but the women in the center and leaning right deserve ERA too. This is not a liberal bill this is a civil and human rights bill and a bi-partisan issue that affects all women equally whether they work in or out of the home. The time has come to end the bickering that has lead to the infighting that keeps us divided against ourselves. I agree the Republicans have passed bills against women’s rights but what have the Dems done for us lately? Has ERA been on the table, do they pay the women as much at the White house as they pay the men? Do they really value us as much as they say they do or just enough to get by and is that really what we will settle for? Let’s garner the strength of as many women as we can by ending the war against each other, the greater war against women is our own! Together we have the power to have so much more than what we are settling for! The time is now – right now– to demand both parties put their names on these two bills. Only when women unite and show strength – only when we show power will they listen to us and that can only happen when we end our own war on women!  Let them hear from all of us that we all are tired of this war!

Call your Representatives and call your Senators!

On March 22, 2012, nine Senate Democrats proposed that states be given another chance to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. This is the 40th Anniversary of the Senate’s passage of the ERA and the first time the Senate has ever considered an ERA bill other than the “Start-over.”

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD.) and eight other Democrats proposed a joint resolution that would remove the 1972 deadline for getting 38 states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). By 1982, the ERA had been ratified by 35 states, three short of the 38 needed to become an amendment. Cardin said, that Congress “should give the states another chance,” and said passage of a joint resolution by both the House and Senate extended the deadline once before, in the late 1970s.

Cardin noted that last year, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said that “certainly the Constitution does not require discrimination on the basis of sex. The only issue is whether it prohibits it. It doesn’t.”

Cardin also stated that the 27th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits congressional pay raises from taking effect immediately, was ratified in 1992 – 203 years after first being proposed in 1789 by James Madison.

In 1992, following passage of the 27th Amendment, the ERA Summit, a national coalition working to jump-start a new ratification effort, sought a legal analysis as to whether the ERA’s time limit could be removed. The conclusion of this study: “Why the Equal Rights Amendment Remains Viable and Legally Before the States” pointed out that there was: No time limit in the Constitution, the time limit has already been changed once from 1979 to 1982 and, the ERA’s time limit is in the proposing clause not the Amendment.

Therefore, it was entirely up to Congress whether or not to remove the deadline

Following this analysis, in 1993, ERA activists were successful in getting a Resolution in the US House that would authorize Congress to recognize and accept the ratification by three more states. This bill, known as the “Three-state Strategy” was introduced into every Congress through 2008. During this time, efforts were made by ERA supporters to obtain a companion bill in the US Senate but they were never successful.

In 2009, Carolyn Cook, DC Coordinator for ERA Campaign Network, authored a bill that would remove ERA’s ratification deadline in support of the Three-State Strategy. Jean Landweber, WI Coordinator for ERA Campaign Network, convinced Representative Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) to sponsor the House bill HJ Res 47. It was introduced on the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day. March 8, 2011.

Since then, Carolyn Cook worked tirelessly to get a companion bill introduced in the Senate.

SJ Res. 39 was introduced by Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) on March 22, 2012 to mark the 40th Anniversary of when both Houses of Congress first approved ERA and sent it out to the states. SJ 39 Res. is the companion bill to HJR 47.

SJR 39 Co-sponsors

Co-sponsors of Cardin’s resolution to eliminate the ERA deadline are: Senators. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Dick Durbin (D-IL.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NJ), Tom Harkin (D-IA), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Frank Lautenberg (DJ), Robert Menendez (D-NJ.) and, Barbara Mikulski (MD).

Your help is needed call Democrats and Republicans NOW,

tell Republicans you will not stand for a Democrat only women’s bill

In order to have a hearing, more co-sponsors are needed.

Please call your Senator Toll free (1-877-762-8762). Ask him or her to become a co-sponsor of SJ Res. 39 & call your Republican Congress to join the Democrats who became a co-sponsor of HJ Res. 47.

Points you can make when calling…

1. Thirty-five states have already ratified  Thus, asking them to “Start-over” takes us all back 40 years as if the ERA had never happened

 2. The fact that Senator  Durbin, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary where an ERA hearing will be held, signed-on from the beginning should be sufficient justification for your Senator to become a co-sponsor.
3. With the War on Women going on, it is unacceptable for our Senators not to help us get a hearing for this approach to ratifying the ERA.
4. Women and girls deserve the ERA after more than 200 years of fighting.
5. The ERA is a matter of simple justice long overdue.

What “Republican War on Women?”

BettyJean Downing Kling
*Updated 3/19/12 see Quote from Cynthia Ruccia

10:47pm Mar 14

I have to laugh every time I hear the phrase “Republican War on Women” perhaps ‘I gag’ is a better characterization of my response.
There is no Republican war on women – there is a Political war on women. Both parties are using women as pawns and it is because we are rated by both parties as second class citizens of little value except as a partisan voting block. We have been fighting for Equal rights since shortly after we fought and won the right to vote.  Most recently, about 65 years ago, women started a new push for Equal Rights and to be recognized a first class citizens with a voice of our own BUT the movement’s leaders SOLD OUT to the political parties and splintered into special interest groups instead. Women have been divided into liberal and conservative camps ever since serving the political parties and the patriarchy perfectly. Instead of amounting to a majority force of 52% they are instead about evenly divided into a weak 25% of which very few bother to mount much of a fight for ERA but instead join forces against other women with the political party they have aligned with if they get involved at all. Instead of a majority force of 52% women they have become absorbed into the male minority which only brings so-called women’s issues in order to further keep the majority from uniting.

When will we learn that if we want Justice for the women and girls in this lifetime we need the ERA? If we want the ERA, we are going to have to fight for it ourselves outside of the two party system and it will take an army of women applying pressure and threats of withholding votes and support which is all politicians understand. A million of us on the DC steps threatening to vote them out should speak to them.

No self respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party that ignores her sex.”

If we want such a voice we will need women – lots of women – and we will need women from both sides of the aisle and from the center to get our message understood. Our message is United we Stand, their message is, divided they fall.

To get more women involved – we must stop the infighting and we can do it best by stopping the divisiveness that separates the majority into two or more camps of women making them enemies instead of allies?

I am sick to death of hearing  “the Republicans hold women back!” It’s not just the Republicans, we have been trying to get this done during the reign of both parties for example, most recently during the last 2 years of Bush and clearly the first 2 years of Obama’s administration when the Democrats had full control and the majority in both houses – I didn’t see the Dems shake any trees for women for the ERA. It wasn’t even on the table for the Dems or for any women’s group as a top priority either. So how about we stop the party politics and divisive single issue mantra and start to fight FOR what we really need and want by bringing all women together.

I think it is disingenuous to teach Democratic women to constantly bash Republicans – and by extension the republican women in this fight when the fight during our lifetime has not been the total fault of any one party and certainly not of Republican women who feel insulted by this constant bashing. What do you suppose they think of Dem women who say things like this when they know that liberal politics has drastically changed women’s lives and yet not garnered ALL women EQUALITY or EQUAL PAY in solidarity but rather changed the fight to some women’s issues that did not square with the majority at all but instead fights for minority issues disregarding the ERA big picture.

Remember- When the Democratic Party refused to support women’s suffrage, the National Woman’s Party sought to punish the party by campaigning on behalf of the Republican Party.

Women’s Rights Convention In 1848, the Women’s Right Convention took place in Seneca Falls, New York; thus began the women’s suffrage movement in the United States. A national meeting was held in 1850 in Worcester, Massachusetts; then, in 1870, suffragettes Lucy Stone and Mary Livermore were seated as delegates at the Massachusetts Republican State Convention.

In 1872 at the Republican National Convention, a resolution was passed supporting admission of women “to wider fields of usefulness.” In addition to this resolution was the declaration that “the honest demand of this class of citizens for additional rights . . . should be treated with respectful consideration.” Read more at Suite101: Women and the Republican Party: Suffrage Rights First Fought for by Republicans | Suite101.com http://lindasuegrimes.suite101.com/women-and-the-republican-party-a67082#ixzz1pCc4dr6V

It is also disingenuous to teach Republican women to bash Democrats and their women when much of the progress we have made has been accomplished by the hard work and dedication of proud democrats who are fighting for women’s rights. Where would we be without the hard work of all the women who came before us and fought for better working conditions, better jobs and management positions, better pay, men’s support for more egalitarian family practices, family leave, better educational opportunities including Titles 7 & 9, sexual harassment laws, and so much more.

How can we forget or deny the focus changed and no longer applied to the majority of women and as we lost the focus – women split into conservative and liberal groups and right into the hands of the patriarchy and instead of bringing us back together to get ERA for the Majority – the 52% of all women which inclusive of the all minority women and including both parties and in the interest of justice – we come together on this issue that benefits all women and unites us in a common goal rather than divides us by what we do not share. Shall we instead continue to drag ourselves down listening to those who insist on bringing divisive issues prompted by politicians and their politics into it? These are political hacks and shills not ERA proponents with women’s best interests in mind – if it were not so – they would be binding all women together under the banner for which they fight.

As a woman I must ask each of you — are we all valuable except for women of the opposite party- or sexual preference, or religion, or color?

And if it really were over politics alone explain what happened during the women’s movement there was a * 40 year dry spell for Republicans what did the Democrats do for women?

When the 104th Congress began in January of 1995, it was the first time since the 83rd Congress of 1953—1955 that the Republicans had control of both the House and Senate. They had never controlled the House during the forty-year period of Democratic rule, and only briefly controlled the Senate, during the 97th through 99th Congresses of 1981—1987. http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance96.html

During that drought it was Republican women who marched together with Democrats until politicians helped divide us. To hell with Shaffeley on the Right and her counterpart haters on the Left- let us march together down the center and get it done! Gimme a break – just bring women together to fight FOR something instead of always playing politics. Neither party (of the men, by the men, for the men or church ) and  gives a Rat’s Pitudy about women – it’s up to us to do for ourselves – that is what we should be concentrating on instead of fighting the game set us up to fight – it’s a men’s politics game! There is no republican war on women – there is a misogynist war on women.  Let’s play our own game by our own rules and win Equal Rights for women!

*”A once and often worthy civil rights movement has become a mere parody of its former self.” and: “Time was when real feminists fought for the right of little girls to be educated as well as little boys. Time was when they fought protracted and heartbreaking battles for women[s right to vote. Time was when they fought for the right to own their own property, to be in charge of their own monies, to be eqjuals before the law.
Time was when there were heroines such as Abigail Adams, Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Whatever their personal vagaries, oddities, and conflicts may have been, they all fought for core values, values which included women having equal rights in education, in politics, in their homes, and before the law. They fought and suffered on behalf of future generations of women, and the victories they did achieve were made possible by changing laws and/or amending the Constitution–amendments which gave the vote to blacks and women. We don’t see enough of such women anymore.” ~Cynthia Ruccia

Enough already using women as pawns- we are not this stupid. There is a war on women alright but it is not just from the Republicans. It’s ALSO from the Dems blaming the Republicans! We do not need to be told there is a war on women – we know it and we also know we are being used. Both parties want our votes. If you’re not going to be a puppet being used by the left or the right, then why not stand up and ask if either party gave a damned why aren’t they putting more women on their slates? Are they picking lady VP’s this year? Are they filling their cabinets half full of women? War on women INDEED! The original suffragists had the right idea a National Woman’s Party could be bigger and stronger than either of these two lame ducks who would be nothing without us!

Sandy Oestreich honored with the Failure is Impossible Award!

Press Release, IMMEDIATE  February 3, 2012
CONTACT:  Lauren Hallahan, 727 643-9063

FLORIDA’S MARTIN COUNTY LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS BESTOWS Susan B. Anthony Award   upon the National Equal Rights Amendment Alliance
St. Petersburg (FL)–  Founder-President of the National Equal Rights Amendment Alliance and former League of Women Voters member Sandy Oestreich of St. Petersburg will be honored with the Failure is Impossible Award for her Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) initiative on February 20, 2012. Contact for RSVP: Betty Paterson  1-772-288-3283.

Martin County League of Women Voters acknowledges Ms. Oestreich’s enduring and pro bono
effort to achieve passage of the ERA into the U.S. Constitution.  Ms. Oestreich began her ERA career in the 1970s by marching in New York, Virginia and other states to bring the Equal Rights Amendment to full 38-states’ ratifications status so it could pass.

In 2001 she resumed her ERA campaign in partnership with Florida League of Voters while on their board and while in local elected office in 2001, speaking on the ERA issue regularly throughout Florida, the southeast, and in D.C.   Sandy says, “We only need three (3) more states to ratify ERA for passage into the Constitution.  Florida’s most influential state legislators  refuse to hold hearings to vote on ERA because they say, “ERA will ‘hurt’ business”.  Not so.   ERA language has raised the GDP in other countries by up to NINE PER CENT, boosts state tax revenues and cuts taxpayer expenses for food stamps, Medicaid, court costs and Public Assistance!   And, ERA requires no funding.”

Ms. Oestreich’s non-profit corporations have grown to nearly 300,000 individual members in 326 major organizations, national and international. Her work has worked has resulted in annual ERA ratification bill filings before the Florida legislature since 2003. She helps mentor some of the 6 other states as ERA leaders legislators file their ERA bills; they refer to the ERA http://www.2PassERA.org web site’s documented “Facts for Legislators”.

To clarify that ERA is “still viable and contemporaneous”, Oestreich’s ERA Inc. joined with 3 other states’ ERA leaders and Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) to create and file the brand-new U.S. Congressional HJRes 47 ERA bill on March 2011. This bill seeks to eliminate the time limit mentioned in the original Equal Rights Amendment’s Proposing Clause that can sometimes cause unnecessary obstructions. “Substantive legal arguments exist to show that is a toothless objection.  We want to discard this red herring so that ERA can pass, bringing Florida and the nation into the 21st century along with every nation since WWII”, Oestreich said.

Sandy is an original TMU board member – we are so proud of Sandy O.

Sexualizing our Society 1

BettyJean Downing Kling
Adapted from Sexualizing America Part1 originally Publihed 2007

SEX SELLS?
It sure does that’s why they do it! But who is doing all the buying?

Seems to me most of the sex selling is selling women and girls as objects to be used and abused by men and you would think that it appeasl mosts to men BUT, since women do most of the buying –  please explain to me why women are buying? How is selling women and girls as objects a benefit to our women? Why are our women buying the very items that lend themselves to our demise? The very items that make men rich while they demean us? Think not- think again! Stick with me over the course of my photo essay and I will unfold how they have and continue to escallate this insideous and not so secret offensive against the femle population in our society and thereby poison the the children from birth to have a skewed view of a hypersexualalized America.

Think I am exaggerating- I am going to bring you the proof! For 35 years I have harped now I am going to bring you physical proof, seeing is believing! This is what we are force feeding our children from birth. Both male and female are being normalized to believe what their lying eyes tell them about females based on what we project before them with what we wear and allow them to see as normal. Oh its normal alright and so is the resulting reprecussions of violence and abuse to our femle population now. Is this what we wanted?

Stay tuned for all 12 parts of this photo essay. Add to these images, TV programming and today’s music lyrics, peer pressure and a variety of other input that children are bombarded with from birth and you have a total picture of what they know as a sexualized and sometimes violent society.

In a society where media is the most persuasive force shaping cultural norms, the collective message that our young women and men overwhelmingly receive is that a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader. While women have made great strides in leadership over the past few decades, the United States is still 90th in the world for women in national legislatures, women hold only 3% of clout positions in mainstream media, and 65% of women and girls have disordered eating behaviors. http://missrepresentation.org/the-film/

Just as the women under Shar’ia law accept their fate to be lower than dogs and their men believe they are the slave masters without question- we in America are conditioning our children to believe females are sexual objects and prey, rather than equals and males are sexual predators/dominators rather than equals.

So sex sells- somebody is buying it folks and it is up to us to put them out of the business of selling these ideas to our baby girls and boys!

By the way have you seen these gifts for kids: Tattoos for baby boys and Baby Stiletto’s for baby girls! Had enough yet?

Although many think that the shoes are just too cute, others believe they are hideous. Some people believe that putting high heels on a baby is perverted and will rob them of their innocence. Hayden Porter responded with,” A 3-month old baby has no idea she’s wearing high heels.”

To which I respond- every pedophile in town will enjoy the baby in stilettos! Let’s just put them on at birth and let’s make G-String diapers while we are at it – maybe tampon diapers too? Damned idiots!

Dereon Girls Ad Too Adult

Beyonce has gone too far- is she and her adult girl want to look like hookers – well that is one thing but dressing this little girls like this – it’s over the top! http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/23284914.html

All they are missing is a POLE because they are truly strippers in the making- where are their mothers? The same place most of our mothers are- with their heads in the sand while all this has been happening right under our noses. Check the clothes on your daughters and their friends – do it now!

And now for the photo essay:

These first 7 photos represent 3 from Abercrombie and Fitch using models that appear to be under aged followed by  4 on ageism which shows a contrast between the supposed sexiness of the very very young and supposed used up- over the hill unattractiveness of older women. In my opinion this not only pushes sex while you are very young, it also leads to eating disorders, depression and poor self esteem and self image. It is disparaging and insulting to older woman not to mention disrespectful.

She- prey/submissive abused/sexy. They- strong/predators/sexualizing/abusing

She- prey/submissive abused/sexualized ganged on. They- strong/predators/sexualizing/ganging on

Every boys dream (he looks 14), a blond and a brunette – one on each arm to meet his every need. After all what else are they for? So tell me what item of clothing are they selling here anyway?

Now that we’ve learned what young girls are for let’s see what happens when they age?

You do not want to look like- or act like or listen to a MOTHER do you?

Either a young sex kitten or an old bag- one or the other – only two choices for women!

Young and sexy or a disrespected ugly old bag

Is it any wonder women feel depressed when they are marketed to and purchase from manufacturers who insult them? AND the damned fools keep buying from them! Why? An old bag you can actually love? What a damned insult! Keisel should be drummed out of business tomorrow!
