Slap em on the wrist till they blow her brains out

No laughing matter CNN, no slap on the wrist matter either! Who will join me?

Louisa’s law Maybe ? Keep the offenders away from these women not drive the women into shelters and away from their homes.

Do you have any idea how many women get their brains blown out daily in this country because we are too damned easy on men who abuse women? They abuse their wives and their families and the major reason they continue to do is because women have so little protection and because they are slapped on the wrist – they keep getting away with it till they finally blow someone’s brains out then they land in jail where a lot of them should have been kept in the first place.

Better yet – the first time they started to show disrespect for women and girls if we stood our ground- maybe it wouldn’t be a joke that that leaves me tonight looking at two daughters battling for their very lives! One from Cancer and the other from the gunshot wound to the head from the 23 year abuser who was left to become worse and worse till he finally  became a would be murderer!

It all started with blond jokes- that the guys in the locker rooms thought were funny at the girl’s expense. Unchecked it graduated to degrading language then to shoves, then to short stints for spousal abuse  which wound up sending the abuser right back home to abuse again.

Just On June 16th 2008 this man, attacked my sleeping cancer patient daughter with a hammer to the skull for her pain drugs. He spent 3 months in Jail then pled guilty to a lesser charge and they let him out ROR, and it ended up with her sister Louisa  my youngest daughter’s brains on the living room wall last night!

You bet the 180 degree turn-a-round from fire Favreau to maybe we should send him to a battered women’s shelter and fix the bastard was a bit personal! Now I am on a death watch for two daughters.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

This has got to stop – too many innocent females are destroyed daily because we will not stand up and fight like hell. We want this stopped this was not a laughing matter CNN boys – come to Hackensack, Medical Center NJ and take a look at my daughter- Louisa Rodas. She has less than a 50/50 chance of surviving and if she does she will have one eye – one ear a half of a head and be paralyzed on one side – we have no idea how much brain damage. STOP THIS NOW – PLEASE! For all our daughters !

  3. You need to list phone numbers of your local police, and the mayor, for starters.
You need to take pictures, without pictures people don’t feel it.

  4. This is just so freakin’ wrong. If there is anything you need, please call on me! My heart goes out to you – I cannot begin to understand how you feel – I just know how it was to grow up watching it happen.

  6. Let us all pray for Betty Jean and her daughters…Pray …and yes, Betty Jean. ..that is all they get most of the time..slaps on the wrist…
I hold you in the heart of prayer…now, tomorrow and always..I am so very sorry for what has happened.

  7. There are no words…. I can only pray for you and yours and that is so inadequate… I’m so sorry!

  8. I know how Barbara feels, that was my reaction as well and I am shocked.

It was always drilled into us as kids that hitting a woman was about as low as a man could sink, at least that was the message from my father and it remains with me today.

  9. BJ… my heart is breaking……. God be with you in an extra special way during this time…. may you FEEL His arms around you, holding you close and giving you peace…. and strength. God is closer to you right now than the very air you breathe… with each breath you inhale breathe in His peace.. and with each exhalation breathe out to Him the hurts…

  10. When one of us is hurt, we all hurt. No wonder I feel so much anguish. I’m so sorry for your daughters and for your pain. We will never give up and always speak out and protest against abuse…Christmas is no respite. God help you and your daughters.

  11. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughters.

  12. I hear you with the blond jokes. At the Thanksgiving dinner table my 17-y-o niece said she didn’t want to be blond because she wanted to get good grades. I could only reply that I never had any problem with MY grades.

The last blond joke I heard was about someone jumping out of an airplane without a parachute and the punchline was “who cares”. Thirty years ago I heard that exact same joke told on Jesse Jackson. Nice that it is now too politically incorrect to tell that one on someone who is African American..but where is the equal outrage about telling it on women?

Words do matter. It’s too easy for verbal abuse to turn into physical abuse. Let’s hope this culture of degradation can be ended before even more of our girls are hurt.

  13. BettyJean, I am so very sorry to hear about this. Words fail me.

You and your daughters deserve so much better than this, and are very definitely in my prayers.

I wish this had _never_ happened and I really wonder why such horrible things happen to good people.

  14. Wow. Anything I can do….anything at all….my prayers are with you as well.

  15. What can we do?

  16. my god BettyJean, all our thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughters.

  17. Betty Jean – I don’t know what to say – I am so sorry – I knew about your daughter with cancer but OMG – what a sorry damm world this is – women are considered expendable and unimportant – let me know if there is anything I can do………………………….

  18. We need to get mad – very very very mad- we need to deman better – this guy was let out after badshing her brains in with a hammer in june – why? Because we do not value women!
We have no rights and no value – we must start to demand that we are given respect – Louisa’s law- make it against the law to talk down to women- if you can’t bash anyone else – then why women and girls?
Why is it ok for CNN to laugh us off- why is it ok to call us cunts and bitches openly?
Mke it stop – let’s march!
Why doo we have battered womens shelters. Do we have battered black shelters? no – attack a black and you go to jail the black person and their family does not have to go into hiding – the offender does. But a women must leave hearth and home and what? And her family is not safe either?
BTW – I happened to be in NYC last night – he was looking to blow my head off too!
A man who has threatened to kill us all over and over for 23 years is free to do it and did it! The law allowed it to escallate to that point – now they are satisfied he is to be kept off the streets. Louisa had to pay with her head!

  21. Betty Jean, you have my deepest sympathies, prayers and love. You are a lovely person and you are so correct in that this shouldn’t have happened. Please let us know what we can do, and yes, we do have to march to stop the misogyny/sexism in this country.

    You are in my prayers,

  22. Dearest Betty Jean: My deepest regrets, prayers, hope and love.
My husband beat me and beat me and beat me .. my priest said if only I would obey my husband he would change, the police said it was a domestic matter and they had no legal grounds to arrest him. It took me many years to get away from him, I was very fortunate he tired of me. The world according to men definately needs to change.
All my prayers are with you. Sherry

  23. BJ there are no words that say what I’d like to convey. There is no way to right this terrible wrong. May our toughts and prayers give you strenght as you deal with this tragidy.

  24. Betty Jean,

Words can not express my sorrow for you and your family. Nor can they express the anger. Anger that will be needed to confront the demons of misogyny. We are with you today, tomorrow and however long it takes to stop this insanity.

    I’m so very sorry.

  31. Betty Jean,

The first thought that came to my mind was “This is the exact type of thing that Sarah Palin was trying to prevent from happening in her family!”

I capture this quote from one of the links to articles about this horrific incident.
“According to reports, the suspect was then beaten by one of the men.”
I don’t know if this is true or not, but I hope it is, and I hope he got a good beating.

I also hope that the bastard Hartwig is not in “protective custody” now that he is in jail. Do you know what other prisoners do to men who hurt women and children in jail/prison?

I do, and I suspect that Hartwig is going to get a taste of his own medicine, sooner or later. People say that there is no honor among thieves, but in jail/prison there is.

The worst thing that could happen to Hartwig is to be placed in General Population or Gen-Pop, because he would then be at the mercy of some of the most serious offenders and they have little mercy for a man like Hartwig.

Whatever crime the other prisoners may have committed, they look down on men like Hartwig and they let them know it, quickly.

If he is in Gen-Pop, he would be subject to being gang beaten, gang sodomy, and a host of other horrific tortures; which is why most of the time a highly publicized offender will be placed in “protective isolation” or “protective custody.”

Most often the offender is not placed in “protective custody/isolation” until there is a verifiable need, or there is a considerable threat to his safety. The verifiable need comes from the offender having been already assaulted by other prisoners or that the offenders crime is so heinous in nature the jail/prison officials deem his presence in the Gen-Pop would be a considerable threat to his safety.

Oftentimes the offender is allowed into Gen-Pop for a brief while and then after his jail/prison mates teach him a lesson he is removed to other custody arrangements. Prison guards hate offenders like Hartwig as much as his jail/prison mates do.

I know that everyone is innocent until proven guilty; but this is such a cut and dried case, I can’t help but hope that this guy is getting what he deserves!

  32. This is one of my favorite prayers from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. I offer the prayer for Betty Jean and her family in this most difficult time:

The Peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you and remain with you always.

  34. Been beat and battered, many, many times. Been threatened with a knife to the throat and by him picking up our baby son and threatening to throw him down a long flight of stairs.

Beat the big ‘C’ three times.

Been there, done that, in both instances. Thank God no guns were involved.

You, and your girls, definitely have my prayers. I know how horrible both things are……

This IS the reason why we continue to fight……..

  37. Louisa’a Law is what we all need. You are so right on that. It is so………..I just don’t have the words. BJ, please know we Puma’s support you and your daughters. We can listen, then we can get something done. (((((((((BJ and her girls))))))))

  38. Bj am so sorry and cannot imagine your grief.

Contact me if you need anything. Thank you for publicizing this. I have a friend living in fear of her husband and it reminded me to call her.

Again, I am so sorry… ((((BJ))))

  39. Anything we write here are just words. But if the words do anything to help you find solace and comfort, then I send you and both your daughters heart-felt wishes for peace, mercy, and God’s love and understanding. PUMAs are with you.

  40. do to prevent these kinds of things from

BJ, I am so sorry for all the heartache you are going through. You are one of the strongest women that I have ever met in my life, but this is just too much for one person to take. My love and prayers are with you and your family. Whatever it takes to prevent this from happening to another woman, I AM WITH YOU.

  41. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May you have the strength and fortitude to see that justice is done. Blessed thoughts to you daughters. No one should have to live with such a violent act that could have been avoided if the justice system had done its job in the first place.

  42. Betty Jean,

You have not only my deepest sympathy, but my anger. I will do whatever I can to help you enact Louisa’s Law, When you have the ability to share details, please let us all know and I will be enthusiastic in my efforts to get support for such a law. A hate crime is a hate crime, and hate against women must stop NOW! Please know you have our prayers for the well-being of both your daughters, and all the daughters out there suffering from misogyny.

  43. Oh my God, BJ!! My heart is breaking for you and your daughters. I am begging all the angels to flock to your sides, asking for miracles for each of you.

I’m outraged for Louisa–how dare this pig have gotten loose! Listen, when you sent me the picture of your beautiful Dee-Dee, I said to myself, I recognize her. She looks so familiar. And when I read the link to the article Alessandro pasted in, I jumped–I’m from LODI!!!! If Dee-Dee has lived there at least three years, then I’m sure I saw her in town, while I was taking care of my dying mother.

Please tell me if it was the cops in Lodi who didn’t do enough to keep that bastard jailed.

I’ll be moving my brother (the one with Down syndrome) and myself to Tucson in spring. We have a few friends there, two brothers who are a decade-ish older than I, in their early and mid-sixties, who grew up on the same block (Kennedy Drive, paralell to Garibaldi Ave.) in Lodi. They were COPS in Lodi forever. At least one of them was a captain. Let me know if I should tell them what happened and have them contact the current Lodi cops, or even other police forces nearby in Bergen County.

They’re well respected, and there’s nothing they hate more than brutality toward women. They come from a family of 4 brothers with one sister whom they always protected. Gosh, I had a bf who left me holding the financial bag here in Vegas, and they’d like to punch him out just for that!

In the meantime, you know I will be lighting candles and beseeching God and all the ascended beings to flock to your side and your daughters’ sides. YOU are the STRONGEST woman I have EVER known! You are an example to every woman on earth. I love you, BJ, and I wish I were home to help you and Denise!!

I want George Hartwig DEAD! I want him to suffer a long, lingering, painful death, that filty son of a bitch! I stand with you, Hillary’s Village, and PUMA in bringing justice about for Louisa, Denise, and all the women who have suffered at the hands of males who are not men in the least.

Call me if I can help!! 702-448-4452.

  44. BJ……….so sorry for your situation. My prayers and my thoughts are with you and your daughters. Anything I can do to help you, I am here. As someone said up line, these are just words and they seem so inadequate but, they are sincere and I grieve for you.

  45. I just read about what happened Betty Jean and my heart goes out to you and your family. God bless you and keep you safe – words aren’t enough in these terrible times but you have my sympathy, thoughts and prayers for you and your daughters.

    Misogyny must be stopped NOW.

  46. BettyJean, I am crying my eyes out while I am typing I am so sorry for your two daughter’s and especially to you, I read your e-mail’s whenever I can and listen to your broadcast’s, I a truly sorry for you and your family, God Bless All of You now and forever. I will be praying for all of you everyday, peace be with you. You have gotten me through many rough spots during the priimaries and the election, if it wasn’t for you and other Puma’s I don’t know what I would have done. Thank-you Thank-you

  47. BJ–I wrote to my friend who was a former Lodi cop/captain, for whatever it’s worth and whatever he can do. Wish I’d known the situation sooner. I also responded, as did Sue66, to the a-holes on the Jersey online Web site. We are ALL sending you and Denise and Louisa love and light and strength and blessings.
We hold you close in our hearts 24-7! Love, juli

  48. BJ, I wish you comfort and strength. And healing for your precious daughters. Yes, I’m also with you on changing the way abusers are treated in our legal system.

  49. BJ: My heart breaks with PUMALAND for your sadness and pain.

Words are inadequate at this time. My love and strength sent to you and your beautiful children.

    When do we MARCH??—I’m IN!!

  50. From Lynnzy…

With the risk of sounding crazy…. I can picture myself killing him… and a whole bunch like him. I’m just not going to take it anymore with men. I want to fight them back. The law is not helping even since Nicole Brown was murdered, things are still about the same. One of two things has to happen or both. One, we need a Supreme court case that will define the boundaries and describe the punishment and compensation to a female victim of any kind of abuse or maltreatment, and number two, men have to get a taste of their own medicine. I would like to see vigilante women out there patrolling their area armed and on call when an abuser strikes. The police really don’t care to protect women, the courts don’t so we have to be armed ourselves. I swear I don’t see any other immediate way. We of course need more female police officers and judges, but we also have to make it known to men that we will strike back. This language of violence is the only language that they seem to recognise. They only go after us because at current, we promise no retaliation. That has to change.

  51. Oh, I’m just stunned and pained by this!!

I am just speechless..My heart is aching for you…

  52. I am more than ready to sign on to “Louisa’s Law”, and will contact everyone I know to do the same. Just let me know when and where I can help.

God Bless your and keep you and yours.

  53. Sorry my last post was made without my profile and using BJ’s profile but my name.. sorry again.. got it fixed up now.

And here people are saying that things changed after Nicole Brown being killed by the now FINALLY in prison OJ Simpson. But no, of course they didn’t change.. I know that… but you know the law and courts would like us to think that things are being done, but they are not… Now looking back at that Sarah Palin incident with her ex-brother in law who threatened to kill her parents and her sister… and look at how she had him fired, had his badge and gun removed and people criticised her? Please…. ! We need to all take a page out of Sarah Palin’s book and learn to be handy with a gun so that men will have to think twice before they turn on women like this. The only reason that we are targets is because we don’t fight back. Yes, a law would help.. if they enforce it. This law we are looking for was supposed to be the work of Denise Brown, but it looks like whatever law they made has just been brushed aside.
I still just can not believe this. I wanna castrate this guy…. while he’s awake and screaming.

  54. BJ, I’ve not commented on your blog in a while, if ever, though I do visit from time to time. I had no idea what you where going through. What happened to your family is horrible, a crime, a tragedy. I am so sorry for your loss and for your helplessness in the face of the hundreds of people who turned away from their responsibility to you and your daughters. The way the law treats women and their abusers in this country is itself a crime. Tell me what I can do to help.

  55. Please call or email Senator Biden’s office – sponsor of the Violence Against Women Act. We just emailed him the following:

    Senator Biden,

Imagine last Christmas, you had two healthy daugthers – Denise and Louisa. This Christmas Denise is now dying of ovarian cancer. Louisa just had her head blown half off by her brother-in-law, George (Denise’s estranged husband), in a domestic dispute. Where was VAWA?

George was jailed for three months after attacking Denise with a hammer to her head demanding her pain medication. He got out on a lesser sentence. He got into a fight Monday night with his dying wife Denise. Her mother threw him out of the house. He returned later that evening to execute the entire family. Only Louisa (Denise’s sister) was there and he shot her in the head with a shotgun. She lays in critical condition now. If she lives (50-50 chance) she will be paralyzed on half her body, missing one eye and ear and the extent of brain damage is unknown.

I implore you to go further than VAWA by calling for the passage the Equal Right Amendment to the Constitution. This is the greatest discrimination case against 52% of our country! Given women the right of protection under law as citizens of our country.

  56. Sorry – Senator Biden contact info:
    senator@biden.senate.gov
    202-224-5042 (DC)
    302-573-6345 (DE)

Friends, BJ passion is the ERA’s passage. This is the GRANDMAMA of all social justice amendments in the US. It simply states:

There are 3 bills introduced in 2007 and it has been introduced every year in Congress since Incidentally, call your congressperson too! These are the states who have not granted the ERA:

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia

  57. BJ – I am keeping you and your daughters in my thought and prayers….

Sending letter to Biden! Get off your a** man and prove you and VAWA mean something for women.

  58. ERA Amendment to the Constitution:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”

The ERA will be re-introduced this year as it always is. We cannot remaim apathetic to our rights (and victims of violence rights) in the Constitution any longer! Senator Carolyn Maloney has called for women and men to get the ERA passed now!

This was a great quote from 2001.
“Isn’t it wrong that in the year 2001 women still do not have equal treatment under the law? Isn’t it wrong that the Equal Rights Amendment has floundered for so long? I am proud to stand here today as a man supporting equal rights for women. But it is also wrong that we still NEED to be here – fighting a fight that should have been won for our grandmothers.” Sen. Jon Corzine, Friday, March 2, 2001

  59. Oh God. I am so so sorry. I am so so angry. I am so so disappointed in foolish women who never fought for a right and just don’t Get It.

My heart goes out to you and both your daughters. I wish I could do more about this madness before it’s too late for so many more Daughters as more and more foreshadowing behavior is enabled from Pennsylvania Avenue. I am old enough to see the signs.

After reading what has happened to your daughter, I feel that the Fight that has taken so long was for nothing. All progress is erased by complacent voting women who just didn’t want to Get It.. It all makes me sick.

    My prayers are with you.

Hard to believe we are in the 21st Century….

  60. I agree with you ‘uppity Woman’..
You said it for sure. I see the signs that we have gone down the wrong path for sure. It seems like this abortion issue is hardly important compared to the violence issue. We should have put that first. All those women who scoffed at Sarah Palin for going after that sister’s exhusband/ abuser saying she was abusing her power? What?
I see what you see… since the msm was able to degrade women like there was no tomorrow, the sexists and abuser have been empowered.
I can not believe that all those women turned on Hillary and Palin like that… all they did was kick themselves backwards and in the ass.

  61. […] Slap em on the wrist till they blow her brains out Posted on December 16, 2008 by freemenow […]

  62. BJ ~ I am simply stunned by this news.
There are no words to say how sad and angry I am.
I will keep you all in my heart.

  63. Betty Jean, I am so sorry. This is so horrific, I cannot even imagine such cowardly acts upon your dear daughters. You are a better person that me, I would have shot the son-of-a-bitch myself. He deserves no pity. I can’t believe he’s not in jail for life. All women should own guns to protect themselves against this type of violence.

  64. I am so sorry. My heart goes out to you and both your daughters. You are in our thoughts on the other side of the Ocean as well.

  65. […] To call it “domestic” violence is to is to paper over what it really is. […]

  66. Betty Jean, I don’t know what to say. I am horrified and angered beyond words. My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your daughters. May you and your daughters find strength, healing, and justice in the coming days.

  67. Betty I had to read your letters over and over, to figure out this was actually happening! I thought someone else had wrote this, and Betty was publishing this for them! Betty Jean, I am so sorry, my heart goes out to you and your daughters. You have my e mail address and if there is anything (and I mean anything) you need me to do, just write. In the meantime I am praying for you and your family!

    Love you girl,
    Mary

Do the prowl and send it to everyone you know.
My prayers are with you BJ and as promised we will begin to end this nightmare.

  69. This horrific incident happened about a block from the house I grew up in. I wrote to a neighbor, who was, with two of his brothers, a cop in Lodi for years but is now retired in AZ. He made some calls and said George Hartwig will never be let loose again. Too little, too late.

The Bergen County judge who let him out the first time needs to be punished. If BJ is correct about the judge, SHE (that’s right, SHE!) is Lois Lipton, Superior Court judge and head of the Bergen Drug Court Team.

I left a voice mail message with Judge Lipton’s clerk, asking her to call me to confirm that Judge Lipton was indeed the judge who only gave Hartwig a 3-month sentence. I told her if I don’t hear from her, people around the country, friends of BJ Kling, will write letters regardless, so it’s to her benefit to confirm or deny.

I’ll be back here by tomorrow to let you know whether I received a call back. BTW, the Bergen County Bar Association said they’re a “trade organization” and don’t take complaints about judges (hmm…). They said one would have to complain to NJ Supreme Court.

Anyhow, in advance of letter writing, here’s the contact info of the local Bergen County, NJ, newspapers for use in the near future. We can’t let BJ down, regardless of how full our plates are.

BJ, Louisa, and Denise are in our hearts and prayers 24-7. BJ is the strongest, most amazing woman I know! She is our hero!

  70. I am so sorry (and angry) to hear this and my thoughts and prayers go to you and your daughters.

    Dear Judge Morgan:

I am writing to urge you to investigate the matter of George Hartwig, a Hackensack, NJ, man who was arraigned yesterday for the attempted murder of Louisa Rodus and her sister Denise Richardson. Hartwig was released in June after serving a very short sentence for attacking his estranged wife, Ms. Richardson, with a hammer and stealing her painkillers while she was recovering from cancer treatments. He returned on Tuesday (12/16/08) with the intent of killing Ms. Richardson and as many members of her family as possible.

Bear in mind that he has a 23-year history of domestic violence.

The judge in the earlier case was Hon. Lois Lipton. I believe that Judge Lipton was gravely in error when she released George Hartwig in June after only a three-month sentence. One would think that a woman would have better instincts about abuse against women.

As a woman who grew up in Lodi, where the attack occurred, I’m doubly horrified. And I, along with thousands of women across the country, know, love, and appreciate BJ Kling, a womans’ rights activist who is the mother of Louisa and Denise. That she is now sitting a death watch for two of her beloved daughters is too much to comprehend. That Denise has cancer is an act of nature; that Louisa lies in such grave condition is the result of a terrible mistake in human judgment. It should not have happened.

Please, do all you can to rectify this situation, even if it includes sanctioning Judge Lipton for her ill-conceived decision.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Julianne Barbato

  72. I’m sending a copy of my letter to Judge Morgan to the RECORD and the HERALD NEWS (God, I grew up reading these newspapers…).

Everyone: feel free to amend my letter, which I amended based on the original template written by Sad State of Affairs at Hillarysvillage.net.

Let’s bombard the Bergen County, NJ, courts. Thank you.

  73. To the RECORD, the HERALD NEWS, and the Bergen County Bar Association: I sent them a copy of my letter to Judge Morgan, with the following note:

“FYI—thousands of us across the country know and love BJ Kling, the mother of Louisa Rodus and Denise Richardson. We won’t relent until a “Louisa’s Law” goes into effect, providing HARSH and LONG sentences for all spousal and domestic abusers of women. Gird your loins for the onslaught.”

  74. BJ,
This news has brought me to sobbing tears and I am so, so sorry for your losses. My prayer is that this horrid event changes how women are seen and treated by society, even by “educated” idiots like Jon Favreau, who lack even a shred of understanding and compassion for life as lived by more than half the people of this Earth.

    Bless you.

  76. Betty Jean,

As I have already told you, if there is anything I can do please let me know. I am sending your info to everyone I can think of. And I hope that in some small way it will help you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Call me anytime, for any reason.
