Medicare is and was a bipartisan effort

BettyJean Downing Kling

Time to cut through the BS- before you vote learn the facts about these two parties. Don’t believe the drivel learn the facts. For example, yesterday I told you the truth about the women’s programs and showed you proof positive where much of the women’s rights since the 70’s came from: Title IX, Title X, ERA, Equal Pay, PP & Abortion, came from the Republican administration! Today The Majority United will enlighten women and seniors about Medicare! We will show you that these social programs are not a gift solely from kind hearted Dems or in danger of Republican cold hearted killers!

Although the overall politics of Medicare and Medicaid were liberal ideal in 1965, the help of John Byrnes, a Republican, was essential in drafting what became United States’ first public health insurance program. While President Lyndon B. Johnson was responsible for signing the bill, there were many others involved in drafting the final bill that was introduced to the United States Congress in March 1965.

A little history shows us the Democrats were not the only ones willing to support social programs especially if they might harm their reelection.

For example,

In 1935, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt,, a Democrat, signed the Social Security Act, medical benefits were left out of the bill. While Roosevelt wished to include some sort of national health care provisions in the bill, he believed the American population would not be ready and the idea would be unpopular. Hmmmm?

Harry Truman, a Democrat, took on the idea of national medical care and tried to integrate it into his Fair Deal program. Truman’s attempts were also unsuccessful, though during his presidency the fight for national medical care became specific to the aged population. Once the targeted age was decided, a lengthy debate began over presenting a coherent medical care bill to Congress.

During the Eisenhower administration, the House Ways and Means Committee was created. The members of this committee were mainly Republicans and Southern Democrats, complicating attempts to pass social health programs. Wilbur Mills, a Republican and chair of the committee, later played a role in creating the health care program that was integrated into the Social Security Act.

Wilbur Cohen was known by several nicknames. He was once dubbed “The Man Who Built Medicare” and John F. Kennedy tagged him “Mr. Social Security,” although, it was Frances Perkins, the first woman Secretary of Labor (under FDR) who was the architect of social security. With The Social Security Act Perkins established unemployment benefits, pensions for the many uncovered elderly Americans, and welfare for the poorest Americans. The New York Times called him “one of the country’s foremost technicians in public welfare.” Time portrayed him as a man of “boundless energy, infectious enthusiasm, and a drive for action.” He was a leading expert on Social Security and a member of Americans for Democratic Action.

When deliberations began in 1965, both AMA members and their suggestions were rejected. Wilbur Mills, the chair of the Ways and Means committee, suggested combining Byrnes’ ideas and Medicare. His committee took on the task of drafting the bill that ultimately became law. In combining the two bills, John Byrnes’ suggestion, which included lower taxes, had to be altered as higher taxes were necessary for the program’s predicted costs.

In March 1965, Mills presented a draft of the bill to Congress. The bill went through more than five hundred amendments before being passed by majority vote in both the House (307-116) and Senate (70-24).[citation needed] The legislation made two amendments to the Social Security Act of 1935. Title XVIII, which became known as Medicare, includes Part A, which provides hospital insurance for the aged, and Part B, which provides supplementary medical insurance. Title XIX, which became known as Medicaid, provides for the states to finance health care for individuals who were at or close to the public assistance level with federal matching funds.

On July 30, 1965, President Johnson, a Democrat, signed the bill, making it Public Law 89-97. The signing took place in Independence, Missouri and was attended by Harry S. Truman. Johnson credited Truman with “planting the seeds of compassion and duty which have today flowered into care for the sick and serenity for the fearful.” Implementation of the amendments required extensive data processing and the re-configuration of hospital policies nationwide.

On December 8, 2003, President Bush (Jr.) signed Public Law 108-173, The Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act (also called the Medicare Modernization Act or MMA) is a federal law of the United States, enacted in 2003. It produced the largest overhaul of Medicare in the public health program’s 38-year history. The MMA was signed by President George W. Bush on December 8, 2003, after passing in Congress by a close margin.

In the years since Medicare’s creation in 1965, the role of prescription drugs in U.S. patient care has significantly increased. As new and expensive drugs have come into use, patients, particularly senior citizens for whom Medicare was designed, have found prescriptions harder to afford. The MMA is meant to address this problem.

Europe to America: Voters are a multitude of fools; You’re idiots!

BJ Downing

I recently got an email with the following so called “BEST QUOTE OF THE DECADE – from the CZECH REPUBLIC” bashing the American people over our current POTUS.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools who made him their President.”

Well, I cannot say that I disagree but it reminds me of the last ‘BEST QUOTE OF THE DECADE’ that one from the Brits. Remember this?

 Brits to America: You’re Idiots!
Well, 51 percent of you, anyway.
By June Thomas Posted Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at 8:07 PM ET

Americans who think post-election anti-red-state recrimination is a U.S.-only phenomenon should check out the cover of Thursday’s Daily Mirror: Over a picture of President George W. Bush, the paper asked, “How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?” Inside, the left-leaning British tabloid headlined its editorial, “WAR MORE YEARS.” In a clear demonstration of the trans-Atlantic culture gap, the paper’s description of the president’s beliefs—clearly intended to strike Mirror readers as a radical agenda—is simply an accurate, if crude, précis of his platform: “Mr Bush opposes abortion and gay marriage, doesn’t give a stuff about the environment, is against gun control and believes troops should stay in Iraq for as long as it takes.”

Great quotes both – but- as far as I am concerned the best quote was written by one of our own when we formed this country long before we the people lost our marbles and sold our souls to one party or the other over a few radical issues none of us has any damned business dictating to the other of us!

“I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all.” ~~~ THOMAS JEFFERSON, letter to Francis Hopkinson, Mar. 13, 1789

Any given Election year a paltry few percent of fools ( last few elections were won by 51-53%) will vote for one side or another over some radical issue be it religious vs. Liberal  (abortion/gay rights) or Republican vs. Dem (Green vs. drill baby drill or gun control) issue. Issues which apparently are more important that the waste, fraud, and abuse going on under our very noses. They are draining us dry while they are getting rich and making their cronies rich.

Here is some interesting information: Our representatives are MILLIONAIRES

The current salary (2011) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year.
Who are the wealthiest members of Congress? Here’s a look. Next
If you stayed up nights wondering whether members of Congress would be able to weather the Great Recession of the late 2000s, this bit of news should finally put your mind at ease.

Overall, members of Congress saw their personal wealth grow by more than 16 percent during the worst economic downturn in the United States since the Great Depression, according to financial disclosures submitted by lawmakers. See more: Even in Recession, Congress Pay Grew

The median personal wealth for members of Congress grew to $911,510 in 2009, up from $785,515 in 2008, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Nearly half of the members of Congress are millionaires.

We should be focusing on jobs, economy, energy independence, education, infrastructure, equal representation by women in our government, media bias, court reform, earmark reform, term limits, terrorism, immigration, voter fraud, caucus fraud, corruption and tax reform instead of the divisive issues.

While they keep us looking at those divisive issues that keep us at each other’s throats they are abrogating our very democracy and getting away with it. We are battling each other while they just spend our money to get elected and re-elected. They spend it to play golf and to fly around the world visiting dignitaries for a day then vacationing for the rest of the week with the family members they brought with them; they vacation and buy homes on tropical islands all on our dime. They exempt themselves from our laws and health care reforms. They give themselves raises while they ask the citizens to pay more in taxes, they preach tax reform but they intend (just like HC reform) to hold on to their own loopholes. They believe they are above the law and are blatant about it (Kerry and his R.I. Yacht scandal)

“The Boston Herald reported that the Massachusetts Democrat had berthed his yacht Isabel in Rhode Island and suggested he was seeking to avoid paying about $437,000 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of around $70,000 that would be levied if he berthed the vessel in Massachusetts. Rhode Island has no sales tax on yachts.”

The Republicans with their family values are repeatedly found short of family values too numerous to list here but we know what they are. Suffice it to say, both parties claim the other party does not suit our values and they are both right – NEITHER does! Both are corrupt! Both are lying through their teeth.

Both QUOTES OF THE DECADE are true, the one about fools voting for Obama and dummies voting for Bush. We are a nation of sheeple who are getting dumber and dumber every day and paying the dishonor to do so. The once great and proud America will fall like every great empire and like the great republic of Rome if we do not wake up soon and stop voting for a few issues, which both parties offer like carrots on a stick but never really deliver anyway but rather keep alive as bait to keep us hooked to their party.

BTW- I have no idea who really wrote the quote attributed to the CZECH’s – it doesn’t really matter  does it? Read instead our founders and our Constitution.

Is There A Doctor In The House – Or The Senate?

By Joe Klock, Sr.

As the story goes, this guy goes to his Doctor for the umpteenth time with the same urgent complaint:

“Hey, Doc, I’ve been coming here for months and I keep feeling lousier and lousier. I’ve never felt worse in my whole life. What’s wrong with me, anyway?”

As this story goes on, the phriendly physician (we strive here for consistency) pauses and phrowns (see foregoing) before he replies:

“Well, the truth is that you’re dying, Pal. In fact, you’ve been dying for a long time and you’re damn-near dead right now. I’m surprised that you even made it here today.”

The Patient (screaming):

“Nearly dead? How long have you known that”

The Doctor (calmly):

“Oh, for quite a while. Actually, as long as I’ve been treating you.”

The Patient (not at all so):

“My God, man, why haven’t you told me?”

The Doctor:

“Well, two reasons. First of all I didn’t want to upset you and also, I was afraid I might lose you as a patient if I prescribed nasty medicine.”

Okay, it’s a silly yarn, but it’s too true to be good if applied to the so-called “entitlements” (e.g., Social Security and Medi-whatever) so resolutely being shielded by our elected reprehensibles on Crapitall Hill.

On each and every day for the next two decades, ten thousand Baby Boomers will reach the age of eligibility for full retirement benefits – the Brass Rings of Geezerdom. But, like the early masons in so many pyramid schemes of yore (and the lucky few who got in and out before wiley old Bernie made off with all that loot), it will be a dream come only temporarily true for the newly old.

As noted in an earlier column (write for a copy), only the first feeders at the public trough will be paid out of what is, in reality, a “Phantom Phund,” one which will go broke well before the younger oldsters approach the Grim Reaper.

The others, unless Congress performs major (and painful) surgery, will get the finger, instead of a handout, in the not-so-sweet bye and bye. Because, folksies, them-there “entitlements” are at death’s door, but our legislative doctors don’t have the stones to tell us so and prescribe the bitter medicine and hurtful therapy that’s needed – desperately and now!

Here it is – once more with feeling, and no fooling:

The real money carefully set aside in past years by you-all and I-all as a “phund” to pay future benefits was raided, raped and piddled away over subsequent years on expenditures having nothing to do with IOU’s to us-all in the program.

It was (fraudulently, sez I) replaced with IOU’s from Uncle Sam, payable by future generations who have nothing to gain beyond bailing out public servants with degrees of integrity that would make pickpockets  look like philanthropists.

The truth, buried underneath a mountain of bureaucratic bullscat and financial sleight-of-hand, is that their ain’t no easy way out of our current problem; and it IS ours, unless we choose to fob it off on our defenseless begats and grand-begats.

It will take one, or a combination, of the following prescriptions to cure the present malady and  prevent it from becoming a congenital American plague:

– Raise the retirement age for those able to qualify for gainful employment.
– Increase the tax bite on those who are still productive.
– Scale back existing programs that are unrealistic.
– Pay benefits only to those genuinely in need of financial aid..
– Initiate draconian penalties on dirtbags who swindle the system.
– Narrow the scope of services provided.
– Fire the gutless governmentniks who know only how to kick cans down the road.

As to that last item: We, the people (or are we sheeple?) need only grant to those in power the time between now and Election Day, 2012 to diagnose our national maladies, prescribe remedial therapies and present us with the bill.

If the entire House of Reprehensibles, and fully a third of the Sinate [sic], fail to take meaningful action between now and then, we have an opportunity – read solemn obligation – to kick their asses out.

We can only then – but not until then – replace them with political doctors who subscribe to the Hippocratic Oath – to heal, rather than do further harm. (Enough with the Hypocritical blather they presently proffer!)

We may not like the necessary treatment, but it beats the poo-poo out of a lingering death for our nation and/or a lifelong plague on those beloved begats.

How to tell if you’re a Good German

This post and the one after it are for all of us who think that we could never have participated in the Holocaust.

Programs that are being instituted in your village, town, city, county etc. right now, are programs that carry the stench of the future, and the past.

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD)
Community Oriented Policing (COPS)
Neighborhood Revitalization
Neighborhood Stabilization
Know Your Neighbor

These programs are sponsored by your local government and are designed to find out everything possible about you.  Why?  Because you’re being assessed and mapped.  Your skills are being put on a map, searchable through GPS (global positioning system), so that you can ‘contribute’ to the well being of the community.  Your assets—stored food, water, tools, weapons—are being recorded. Click on this paragraph to see the questionnaire.

These programs are being touted as something YOU want, that YOU asked for—at a visioning meeting, perhaps, where you were Delphi’d.  They can’t do this without your assistance…and your neighbor’s, if you don’t cooperate.  What they don’t tell you is that they also record your limitations, your handicaps, your resistance, your personal behavior, your private life, your habits.  The skill-sharing is the candy-coating.

Now read this (from Wikipedia):
In Nazi Germany, a blocklieder (block warden) was the lowest official of the Nazi Party, responsible for the political supervision of a neighborhood or city block, and formed the link between the Nazis and the general population.  He was charged with planning, spreading propaganda, and developing an acceptance to the policies of the Nazi party among the typically 40 to 60 households in his area. It was also the duty of the blocklieder to spy on the population and report any anti-Nazi activities to the local Gestapo office.  This allowed for a Nazi terror state and was helped by keeping files on each household.

See our website for links to the questionnaire they are using right NOW.

Reduce abortions and make adoption easier

BettyJean Kling

While we are aborting our own babies because we have a right to our own bodies many American families are desperate to buy a baby. They want a child so badly they are turning to this! Turning poor women into incubators for cesarean section births after keeping them isolated for the entire pregnancy. These girls are used, some die, for the almighty dollar. When will women and children stop being hot commodities and start being human beings? Imagine surrogacy tourism? What other ways will they find to use and abuse women in this world and what other ways can we unite to stop it?

INDIA LEGALIZED surrogacy in 2002 as part of a long-term push to promote medical tourism. Since 1991, when the country’s new free-market policies took effect, private money has flowed in, fueling construction of world-class hospitals that cater to foreigners. Surrogacy tourism has grown steadily here as word gets around that babies can be incubated at a low price and without government red tape.

Think again America, if you find yourself pregnant- can’t you find it in your heart to at least consider to carry your child a few mere months and give her a loving home right here in the USA? Loving American families are ready, willing and able to help you have your baby and give it up to a loving home. Please consider fighting to make adoption easier right here so we can cut down on abortions. Far too many families have to resort to going other countries to adopt—they wait for years- they want the child you can’t raise.
Remember more than half of our aborted babies are future American women.

Inside India’s Rent-A-Womb Business

Gestational dormitories. Quintuple embryo implants. Brave New World? Nope, surrogacy tourism.

By Scott Carney~ Mother Jones on Thu. April 8, 2010 3:00 AM PDT

FROM ITS POCKMARKED EXTERIOR WALLS and stark interior, you’d never guess that the pink three-story building tucked in a narrow alley a few blocks from the train station in the fast-growing city of Anand houses India’s most successful surrogate childbirth business. But this is the place they raved about on Oprah. Nowadays, thanks to the endorsement of daytime TV’s leading lady, the Akanksha Infertility Clinic fertilizes eggs, implants and incubates embryos, and finally delivers contract babies at a rate of nearly one a week.

There are simply no safe levels of exposure to toxins. Part 5 The Gulf

Nearly 3 months into this disaster; our sea is dying, our coast is polluted, our wetlands destroyed, wildlife murdered, our industry gone, summer fun never begun, the season(s)lost, families broke, businesses bankrupted, workers sickened, residents probably poisoned. Nothing will ever be the same again for many. Not ever.

Along with 18 million gallons of crude oil that we know is toxic, let’s drop 1 million gallons of dispersant, also crude based, and let the chips fall where they may! It been 3 months folks and the workers are getting sick and the leak ain’t plugged. POTUS is on his 4th vacation, has had 12 golf outings, I have lost count of the White House gala’s and I’d like to know where the friggen outrage is? No hope – no change and if the buck stopped there – he must have flushed it!

Same story once again – it’s safe. Yet we have 18 million gallons give or take a few mil of crude oil that we know is toxic. They are burning toxic crude oil, and dropping 1 million gallons of dispersant without benefit of studies. Meanwhile, workers are complaining of the same symptoms as 911, and Exxon Valdez while NO one who can do much about this is asking what the hell is going on?

Well folks – we can – there is an election coming up – throw the bums out- every damned incumbent – show em the door!

The dispersant BP is using is Corexit

COREXIT Ingredients:
Several weeks ago, Nalco responded to US EPA requests (after 2 months) by providing the agency with detailed formulation and ingredient information on our COREXIT dispersant. We further agreed that this information could be shared with any other federal agency and with third party laboratories EPA has been using for its Gulf monitoring and assessment program to allow them to monitor any potential for risks to the environment or public health.

COREXIT 9500 is the sole product we have been making for Gulf responders since the spill began. Limited quantities of COREXIT 9527″ MAY have been drawn” from existing dispersant stockpiles from around the world. (Me; may have been drawn equals we used it!!)

COREXIT 9500 does not include the ingredient 2-butoxy ethanol, an ingredient in COREXIT 9527.

Sounds great, they are dropping Skin cream, body shampoo, Body and Face lotion, tanning lotions Air freshener and cleaners.
Yippee how sweet of them. Everyone will be tan and smooth and sweet smelling like a baby. But–They are dumping TOXIC Distillates, petroleum, hydrotreated light

Petroleum distillates are made from crude oil.

Uses for
Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light is found in the following products:

Oil Dispersants
Air Freshener
Car Wax
Car Tire Protectant
Car Fuel System Cleaner

Distillates, petroleum, hydrotreated light

Human Health Effects

Can cause dizziness, headache, drowsiness, nausea, unconsciousness (NIOSH)
Dry Skin (NIOSH)

Can cause cough, diarrhea, sore throat, and vomiting (NIOSH) (So let’s dump them on humans)

Environmental Effects:
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Hazard states that it is harmful to aquatic organisms. (So let’s dump them in the ocean!!),+petroleum,+hydrotreated+light

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE: The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapor and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK: No indication can be given about the rate in which a harmful concentration in the air is reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE: The vapor is slightly irritating to the eyes . The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system . Exposure to high concentration of vapors may result in unconsciousness. Swallowing the liquid may cause aspiration into the lungs with the risk of chemical pneumonitis.

ENVIRONMENTAL DATA: The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.

US Department of Health and Human Services

Let’s add to the ever growing toxic list

2-Butoxy Ethanol can affect you by ingestion and may be absorbed through the skin.

2-Butoxy Ethanol should be handled as a CARCINOGEN–WITH EXTREME CAUTION.

Contact can irritate the skin and eyes with possible eye damage.

Inhaling 2-Butoxy Ethanol can irritate the nose and throat.

2-Butoxy Ethanol can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Exposure can cause headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, and passing out.

2-Butoxy Ethanol may damage the liver and kidneys.

We’ve seen 2-butoxy ethanol before: It was used during cleanup operations for the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil disaster. The 911 rescue workers were exposed to Ethanol as it is also contained in Jet fuel.

Documentary film maker James Fox has released a new video, shot on location in and around Grand Isle, Louisiana. In the video, James and his crew collected numerous water samples, water with a visible oil presence. One of the water samples collected was from twenty miles off shore, while others were taken from the beach on Grand Isle.

The footage also showed the oil caked hulls of boats from the area, a grim reminder of the true reality we are currently facing in and around the gulf.

Corexit 9500 and 9527A are both being applied daily, with little to no intervention by the EPA. Samples have shown high concentrations of Propylene Glycol, between 360 and 440 parts per million. Keep in mind that 25 parts per million is the excepted toxic limit for fish. This would indicate that some of the samples were 150 times the toxic limit!

Oil and water samples were taken from both the Shores of Grand Isle and from 20 miles out. The preliminary analysis was done at an academic analytical chemistry laboratory. Looking for the likely pollutants from the deep water Horizon Oil spill. It was focused on the detection of benzene and propylene glycol. Benzene and other highly toxic contaminants were very low however the concentration of propylene glycol was between 360 and 440 parts per million.

Just 25 parts per million is known to kill most fish and propylene glycol is just one of many ingredients found in Corexit. In short, the Gulf is being poisoned by BP’s usage of the dispersants even after the EPA asked them to stop back in May. We are willing to provide ANY respected/known laboratory these samples or provide them with more. This is very serious to all people and marine life in and around the Gulf. James Fox

The bottom line is that the situation is out of control and only compounding day by day, hour by hour. The potential for an even larger problem looms on the horizon, due to the possibility that these toxins may reach our water supply in the very near future. As time marches on, the gulf oil spill is proving to be one of the worst disasters in history, one that may end up affecting not just the gulf, but the entire world.,_BP_Continues_Spraying.html

Have we learned anything?

“Crude oil composition varies slightly by its source, but its toxic properties are fairly consistent. Chemicals such as benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are very toxic components of crude oil and of high concern. These and many other chemicals in crude oil are volatile, moving from the oil into the air. Once airborne, they can blow over the ocean for miles, reaching communities far from the spill. They may be noticed as petroleum odors. Consequently, both those working on the spill and people who are far from it can be exposed to crude oil chemicals in air.”

Yet we are being told all is well and safe. Haven’t we heard this too many times before? 911, Exxon Valdez? Why are they saying it’s safe? Why do believe it’ safe?

The EPA knows it is ALL toxic. The CDC knows it is ALL toxic. They issued the warnings I found! See Part 1 There are simply no safe levels of exposure to toxins. Part 1 Introduction Why the denial that 18 millions of gallons of crude oil and I million gallons of dispersants are safe? We have both human and animal studies that say it is toxic.

We are once again listening to a company that is responsible and manufactures the dispersant, BP, and a Government that ignores its own studies say it’s SAFE. Yet experts, scientist, doctors, marine biologists, survivors themselves as well as the CDC and the EPA literature all tell us — it is not safe.

Doctors call for help protecting Gulf oil spill workers
By Marisa Taylor

WASHINGTON — A group of doctors who’ve tracked 9/11 rescue workers’ illnesses urged the Obama administration to “prevent a repetition of costly mistakes” made after the terrorist attacks by protecting Gulf Coast oil spill workers from toxic exposure.

In a letter McClatchy obtained that was sent to health and safety officials earlier this month, 14 doctors said oil spill workers should get the maximum level of protection from exposure in an effort to avoid the problems that arose after the Sept. 11 attacks.

After 9/11, health experts accused the Bush administration of withholding information about the toxicity of the air at the World Trade Center site from emergency workers and of being too slow to prevent exposure.

Long-term studies have since found that many 9/11 rescue workers and firefighters have suffered increased respiratory illnesses and reduced lung capacity.

“Failure to recognize the errors made from the response to the WTC disaster and a further failure to benefit from their attendant lessons may well lead to needless risk to human health in the Gulf and will amplify the human and financial costs associated with such risks,” the doctors wrote.

The group recommended that the program set up to track the health of the oil spill workers be sponsored by organizations other than BP. As it stands, the Obama administration is demanding that BP pay for the program.
(But hasn’t heard of Toxic)

The doctors wrote that the administration should “enforce applicable laws to the maximum extent possible, leaving as little as possible to the discretion of private industry.”

Critics are questioning whether the administration has left too many decisions about the health and safety of the estimated 37,000 oil spill workers to the discretion of BP as a growing number of them complain about exposure to toxins.

At least 74 spill workers have complained that they felt ill after exposure to air pollutants from the crude oil, dispersants and other toxins. Most of the symptoms — ranging from throat irritation to nausea and headaches — cleared up quickly.

While experts agree that the level of exposure is lower than federal safety standards permit, they say that what little information has been released offers more questions than answers.

Meanwhile, BP isn’t recording a majority of the exposures to air pollutants as part of its official tracking system of oil spill illnesses and injuries.

Adding to the concerns, workers are getting only the minimum hazardous-material training required, which is two to four hours. That’s because the administration chose to apply training standards that date to soon after the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska.

Health and safety officials also have declined to push BP to provide respirators to many of the workers. They’re worried about requiring respirators prematurely, in part because of the summer heat that many workers are exposed to. Respirators could trigger heat exhaustion or worsen its symptoms.

Are you outraged yet? They are dumping TOXIC on top of TOXIC.

Part Six The Conclusion.

Finally, someone succinctly makes the point that both sides of the political spectrum have their crazies, and that pigeonholing all the people that have problems with the health care legislation as radical or racist is intellectually dishonest. Best moment of the interview is when Chris Matthews mutters under his breath “this isn’t working.”

Women: Under the bus right on schedule

Another Rant By: BettyJean Kling

Today- I am ashamed to be a woman!

Well it’s done. First let me say that for those of you who voted for Obama you got exactly what you asked for so stop whining about Stupak! For the woman’s groups that are now upset that the Pro-Life Dems held out and got what they wanted, remember POTUS, Nancy and the others let them have it too. I give you your beloved Democratic Party,  who again has thrown women under the bus. Did you really think you were more important to them than this historic presidency? You got the government you voted for!

For those of you who insist on holding on to the Dems simply for your rights to your own body- well I must ask — how’s that working out for ya? Huh?

Now we have a health care bill that doesn’t cover all your needs – you the majority’s needs. You have your right to your own body but pay for it yourself, and if you want breast exams wait till we say you are old enough the we pay for one then you pay for one cause we cutting down. Breast Cancer screening? Sorry ladies- you just lost 5 years of that! You got the government you voted for!

As for everything they do decide they will cover, they will have the IRS up your ass and make sure that everyone pays or is fined. That too sounds like everyone has a right to their own bodies huh? I wonder ladies, if the guys continue to get their Viagra and what else you start to lose! You got the government you voted for!

One more thing lady Dems for the third time now Mr. Obama has restated his dedication to enforce the “conscience clause” so that emergency contraception can be withheld. You got the government you voted for!

As for me- I would be disingenuous if I said there were not parts of this bill that I could live with, I wanted universal health care. Everyone who needs health care will have it, kids will not fall off their parents plan till they are 26, women will not be consider a pre-existing condition, all pre-existing conditions will be a thing of the past, there will not be caps. What you failed to understand is that this bill was not THE right bill but you Dems pushed and you pushed and you pushed because YOUR party told you they were going to take care of you and in the end – you found yourselves under the damned bus – right on schedule. You got the government you voted for!

As a proud Independent for the past 30 years, I got into this particular political arena when Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy and I was specifically interested in her health care plan. I made a video which I attached. I had two children both adults who died from Cancer and we struggled to get medication to make their passing easier.

Mikie had the illness before 18 and fell off and then was so ill the rest of his short life that he would get sick lose his insurance and eventually got too sick to return to work and died of cancer at 34. My Denise fought ovarian cancer for 3 years, she had no insurance and she died at 45. Our biggest problem was not getting medical care it was getting medicine which sometimes cost 1000.00 a month for years on end.

I believe Hillary would have protected women and I believe we could have trusted her not to cut services to women and seniors as I believe this one will. Hillary and her Health Care Plan would also have been historic but it would have cared for the MAJORITY of our citizenry as well as the MINORITY!

Throughout the primaries the DNC proved what they and this president were capable of and still you voted for them. This bill was cut not for you and me this was another historic momentous piece for the record books. This entire fiasco has been historic but again women – the majority- have been left out in the cold and this time I dare say perhaps thrown to the wolves. But– you got the government you voted for!

The Republican Party is no better. If we had any sense at all we would all join together and form a third party but until then we had better clean out the House and Senate and if you can’t let go of your obsession with this damned party of yours at least change the damned characters. You got the government you voted for!

If you want HOPE and CHANGE- Unite the Majority and stop taking the damned crumbs they keep throwing us if when it so pleases them because ladies they are using us at their convenience and we are taking it like a bunch of damned battered wives. Today – I am ashamed to be a woman! When will you finally be ashamed enough to stop taking the battering, you make us all look bad?

IMAGINE– The Majority United!
