Carolyn Cook: Founder United 4 Equality

BettyJean Downing Kling

Let me introduce you to a friend of mine, Carolyn Cook, Founder of United 4 Equality who I met a few years ago roaming the states trying to get Hillary elected. Like millions of other women out there for Hillary we found a common interest in getting the ERA passed if all else failed. Till this very day we ‘Hillary Gals’ have stayed in touch from all 50 states and we are still out here fighting for women’s rights and still uniting for womankind. IMAGINE my delight when today Carolyn wrote and informed me of her work toward getting a bill through Congress. H.J.RES.47 that passed March 8, 2011 is included below. Please help us get the word out about her bill and let’s start taking action NOW. Her website and information about getting involved in United 4 Equality We can all be a part of ERA 2015: 4 Years, 3 States, 1 Law!

“The U4E launched in March 2010 with one mission – ratify the ERA by 2015.  I drafted a proposal urging Congress to remove the time limit on the ERA, so we can target the last three states needed to make it the 28th Amendment.  I’ve been making presentations, have written a few articles and met some really great people along the way. Two and a half years later, my proposal became HJ Res. 47 in the 112th Congress!  It is imperative that we get the word out about our bill and encourage others to start taking action!  Otherwise, Congress will insist we start over again and there is no way we are doing that!” Carolyn Cook cook@united4equality.com

The ERA: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States, or by any state, on account of sex

The U4E: United 4 Equality (U4E) is committed to elevating America’s consciousness to value the perspectives and contributions of all women. We will strive to change
public opinion that believes women are ‘different’ and ‘less than’ and therefore should be treated as such.

  1. Women are competant, reserve, brilliant, poised and nurturing. In my voluntary efforts to bringing your children back home to you were they belong. It has not gone without recognition nor in vain the fact that you gave it your best shot, your last breath, every total inch of your soul in the fight to restore and reunify your children & family. No effort has gone ignored. God has a reason, a plan and something that you must learn from this. Figure it out. (Jeremiah 33:1-3 KJV) “Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, {2} Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; {3} Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

    • “I will show theee great and mighty things which thou knowest not”

Rather than Old Testament – I always use the New Testament to guide me but these words from God in Jeremiah 33:1-3 are perfect as I believe he sent his son the Lord to show the way.

Jesus was brilliant is proving that he held women to the highest esteem and he proved it over and over again but never more clearly than in the story of the two sisters Mary and Martha.

1- The conservative sister was whining about doing the cooking while the other sat a the feet of Jesus ministering and learning along with the men. She refused to do domestic chores but rather be non conventional. Jesus clearly taught both jobs were fit for women and each would be blessed and rewarded for the work of their calling.

2- Later when that same women poured expensive oil on the feet of her savior- she again was called out – this time by the men jealous that she dare to raise herself above them and to waste expensive oil- again Jesus admonished any who would talk against her and gave her the right to do what she felt called to do.

3 Finally when Jesus rose on the third day- he gave eternal life equally to all three – Lazarus, Martha and Mary alike! and do you know why? Because whosoever equally includes women whether they are raising babies – cooking in the kitchen or choose to minister to others.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Women are competant, reserve, brilliant, poised and nurturing but they are not being treated equal and with justice therefore it is time they add to the above list empowered!

So I leave you with your own quote:
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Thank you for your comments- you stirred my recall of Mary and Martha, much appreciated!

  2. Yes indeed, all four of us state Leaders, members of United for Equality, are proud of the successful launching of our ERA HJRes sponsored by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin on March 8, International Women’s Day, 2011 ! We conferenced to create the bill itself and all attendant documents for about two years.

All the while, Louisiana Leader Camille Moran and Florida’s Sandy Oestreich, were also campaigning/lobbying before our state legislators to achieve the required 3 more state ratifications so that ERA can pass into the US Constitution. We also help mentor the other several states as they file their bills: Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, Virginia.

Readers may contact at http://www.United4Equality.com; http://www.la-4-equity.us; or http://www.2PassERA.org to offer to link up for their own state. HJRes 47 needs phones ringing in all Federal legislators’ offices to urge additional co-sponsors for it. The companion US Senate bill needs constituents calling their own Fed. Senator, urging them to be the Sponsor who files the US Senate bill that awaits them!

These Actions are the MOST IMPORTANT and EASY acts to take to propel the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment:
“Equality under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex”/gender.

Needed more than ever, women should have officially guaranteed equal rights and so should men. The economy suffers without an ERA. So does the quality of life for all. NO way should all nations since WWII have an ERA…but not the USA!

Names of original, working members of U4E:

Carolyn Cook (DC), whose original idea brought HJRes about; Camille Moran (LA); Sandy Oestreich (FL); Jean Landweber (WI). Contact us. Link with us. ERA IS OUR BIRTHRIGHT!

  3. The Carolyn Cook would stand side by side a notorious Jew-baiter like Jeffrey Imm is really upsetting. Isn’t Ms. Cook Jewish?

  4. Jeff Imm stands for Juman Rights for all – where in that link did you get the idea he is a jew -baiter?
