For a woman to reach the White House, the 2012 elections will be key

Geraldine Ferraro, the history-making former vice presidential candidate, died a week ago, In the last two years other names recognizable in national politics — Bachmann, Giffords, Gillibrand, Haley, Palin, Pelosi — camouflage the reality that progress in electing women has stalled.

Almost three decades after Ferraro’s path breaking candidacy, only one other woman has been in her position on a major party’s national ticket, and we still haven’t seen our first female president or vice president.

Gerry broke the taboo by appearing on national television alongside Sarah- ideology be damned- wishing her well in her bid to forge ahead in politics!

The image above gives me hope along with the Washington Post article where women from both parties are lauded in the same article. Let us write the Post and congratulate them on this fine work. Excerpt is just a tease- read the entire article for a chest sweller- I promise! And let Christopher Meighan know how much we appreciate him as well. He deserves an award!

Which women should step forward to run? Political women typically come from professions more common for women in general: education, nursing, social work and, more recently, the law. But to get many more women involved, we need to look beyond traditional sources. Three recent examples: Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) worked for an Internet start-up that eventually became RealNetworks. Former representative Heather Wilson (R-N.M.), currently running for the Senate, had a career as an Air Force officer and is an expert on defense, arms control and business development. Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-N.Y.) is a retired ophthalmologist.

One Response

  1. The TEAM Player, Hillary, got a lesson in how women are never really considered Team-Mates by immature guys. What this article deserves is a medal for pointing out the faillure of “The One” to lead his TEAM to victory in 2010. The cascading disaster of now handing the “Other Team” the right to commandeer redistricting at the State Level is just one of the ugly results of the sexism in the D.N.C. The Political Parties, indeed, are obstacles to Women in the Pipeline, all the more incentive for a Majority United.
