Louisa’s Law will “Stand up to Violence against Women”

BettyJean Kling

We are looking for an attorney to write the language for Louisa’s Law which will require those with the power to do so to “Stand up to Violence against Women”

It’s time to stop slapping the hands of perpetrators of violence against women and children. Let’s hold them fully accountable for their actions. Let’s hold prosecutors feet to the fire – no more plea deals when violence does happen. Let’s hold Judges accountable for sentencing these violators to the fullest extent of the law by handing down stiff sentences.

On the meantime I urge you to join us in calling an end to a proposed plea deal in the case of George Hartwig. Below a sample letter.

State Vs. George Hartwig Re: Louisa Rodas

Dear Prosecutor Molinelli:

My name is Myra Spearman; I am a survivor of domestic violence and the Founder and President of The Weaker Vessel, Inc. We successfully and proactively maintain a database of domestic violence offenders which is viewable by the general public. It is of great importance to us that women and men are able to recognize and stop abuse before it happens to them.

I am writing this letter to you because I am profoundly saddened that there is some discussion of a plea agreement in the case of George Hartwig who savagely beat and disabled Louisa Rodas. I am asking you to proceed to trial and prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law. It is important that justice be served and that the family of Louisa is able to achieve some measure of closure.

If you merely offer a plea agreement you will allow the possibility for his release into society in the future. Mr. Hartwig has already shown us the consequences of his actions, allowing him to plea will significantly endanger more lives upon his reentry. He has clearly proven himself to be a repeat offender and we cannot allow recidivism to continue. We understand that you’re extremely busy but would implore you to review the case and proceed to trial.

I know you understand fully the extent of what you might allow to happen if you decide to offer a plea. Before you do, think about Louisa and the struggles she has left. She will never be normal again, she’s lost half of her brain, her face and is severely disabled and will need 24 hour care for the rest of her life. Prosecute this case as you would if Louisa were your daughter!

I, as well as other important women’s rights and advocacy groups will continue to watch this case very closely. It is my sincere hope that you will use your legal expertise to win a conviction in this case.

Sincerely,

Myra Spearman

  1. You have got to be absolutely kidding!?

All research shows, that women are exactly as violent as men, and women, medias and feminists haven´t been talking about anything else for the past three decades than protection of women and children.

Have you all taken a look at your laws lately?

Talking about biased laws against men!

Give me a break – Frauds!

    • Its sad when others make this an ‘us against them’ deal in response to awful circumstances no matter who you are.

The principal is getting violent offenders off the street, so they don’t harm anyone anymore. I wouldn’t care if the above mentioned people were men, women or purple people eaters!

No one is safe with such characters on the streets. When this type of sicko comes and shoots you? You have to wonder if your view of this person would be the same – I would guess NOT! You would be screaming from the rooftops WHY wasn’t this person put away the first time he did it! Funny how the chants over biased laws, and frauds would instantly disappear then.

These sickos don’t just target families. I will never understand why others can’t grasp the principal.

      • You make a very good point- had he hammered some other guys head in they would be screaming in the streets. But let him hammer his wife’s head in and not only no outcry they let him out with nowhere to go – no job and no money.

Turn on the news today – a knife wielding man was shot dead and the whole neighborhood is out raging in the streets against the so-called racist PD asking why was the crazed knife wielding man shot! Where are they when a quite innocent dying women is beaten while sleeping in her bed? They don’t take to the street over that?

I just don’t get it! I guess women and children just are not worth as much to the neighborhood huh?

    • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FACTS

      WHY IT MATTERS
Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive
behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. It is an epidemic affecting individuals in every
community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background.
Violence against women is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior, and thus is
part of a systematic pattern of dominance and control. Domestic violence results in physical injury,
psychological trauma, and sometimes death. The consequences of domestic violence can cross generations
      and truly last a lifetime.
      DID YOU KNOW?
      1
One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
      2
An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.
      3
85% of domestic violence victims are women.
      4
Historically, females have been most often victimized by someone they knew.
      5
Females who are 20-24 years of age are at the greatest risk of nonfatal intimate partner violence.
      6
Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police.

      http://www.ncadv.org/files/DomesticViolenceFactSheet(National).pdf

That would be 85% of DV victims are women.
So I am standing up for the 85%..

And how dare you call a mother who has lost 2 daughters
      To domestic violence a Fraud?

    • Henrik,
I just now read your comment!
I have got to be kidding ?- Women are exactly as violent as men?
      All research proves that?

What are you smoking? And what research are you reading? Maybe you are one of those guys who like to be tied up and beat then read about it in those magazines that write up this stuff?

Next you will be telling us little children enjoy being raped and murdered! Go away Henrick – one of you was enough to open our eyes to what we are up against. You make the saying do unto others – meaningless!

    • This is a forum for justice why on earth would you make such a comment? We are men and women seeking justice against a violent offender, how pray tell, is anyone a fraud? Men are stronger, they can do far more harm and in rural or depressed areas women have no means to escape because they have no control over the money. Your comment is negative. Use your time and help a “battered” man rebuild his life but don’t ridicule those trying to make a difference for the positive. Laws apply to all.

      • There are men out there who rant nd rave and find these forums then they come here and make these statements- we ignore them completely. We refuse to engage them and they go away.
They love to antoagonize us and we know that now – so we just ignore them – they hate that !
Thanks you for stopping by – please don’t let an idio like this get your dander up- I am Louisa’s Mom – and I just laugh off a jerk like this one.
Come by again – or leave your story – come to the main blog too. We need your voice we really do – see all the jerks out there?
        Thanks for coming by Janis.

  2. Betty Jean, I wish I were a lawyer but my prayers and thoughts are with you that you will find a good lawyer. I cannot believe they want to plea bargain with that murderous thug! That man and all like him should be off the streets forever!
BTW, I don’t know where Henrik gets his statistics. I certainly have not read or seen anything about women being as violent as men. Everything I’ve read has been just the opposite of Henrik’s statement.

  3. Betty Jean, this is the first I’ve heard of your tragedy. I didn’t know about your two daughters.

OMG! I can’t tell you how sorry I am. I have no idea how you are able to deal with this.

I also wish that I were a lawyer or knew someone who could help. I’m afraid all that I can do is pray for you, for the cause and for all injured and abused women.

    And that I will do.

    • Thank you so much – you can also write a letter to the prosecutor and tell everyone you know to write a letter.

This they understand kind of pressure they understand. This kind of mail will force the media to cover the trial and force the courts to do the right thing. Remember the Tracy Peterson case. She was only one of thousands of such cases but she won justice because enough people cared to take it global. Will you help me take it global? Will you take it to your friends – or FaceBook and will you write a letter? I thank you in advance for you thoughtfulness and kindness for your comment.

  4. I will definitely send a letter to the prosecutor and then send this message to everyone on my e-mail list. And beyond.

    Good Luck.

    • I thank you from the bottom of my heart! You are doing this for all women and girls!

  5. Henrik, Whatever you are smoking, I will have two.

  6. I sent a letter and PUMAs are also sending letters.

I spent last Sunday in arraignment court, yes Hempstead NY is open 365. I watched 14 men, no women arraigned on domestic violence charges all 14 walked out the door with a promise to stay away and appear in court at a latter date.

Yes, women can be violent but not as stated equal to that of men. Please post the statistics that prove your statement.
Besides we are discussing one man,
George Hartwig and the need to remove him from society for the rest of his life as he has removed Louisa from society.

As the economy and unemployment escalate so does violence against women.
    It is at crisis levels.
Spend a day in a courtroom.
The parade of monsters who batter and bruise and offer excuse after sorry excuse is never ending.
Until we stand and say there are NO excuses for violence there will continue to be women battered and bruised by not only the monsters in their homes but by our judicial system in our courts.

    • Thank you Barbara- And thank you for raching out to the Puma’s i am reaching out as far and wide as I can – I spend 8 hours a day with Lou and there are not enough hours in a day.
We need this to go viral – ASAP- we need to readch the Attny Gen in NJ.

      • Violence against women and children is going to wipe out humans from the earth. The violence is occuring as every one is busy for self-centric gratification and running after the mirrage and vulgarity of extreme materialistic culture.Education system today only promotes how to earn money and nothing about values of life. Every one is after virtuality to live at the cost of others.Women and children are the worst victims of such psychic. No one is standing up for this cause. When I try to stand up with my website and two books “Peace Technology” and “Peace TimeCalendar”, I donot get any support from the world community. The world has to change towards “humanitarianism culture” so that women, children and everyone is secured and live in harmony and peace.Do you think will there be any individual or international community to accept my ideas for a peaceful living? I donot think as I started this movement from 2000, I am not getting any respose or recognition to the ideas. I have moved UN through my book “Peace TimeCalendar”, but because I am an ordinary world citizen, the BIG UN ignore the ideas.
Will you do it? Move UN to ensure no women, children and other innocent people are battered by monsters and to create a peaceful and sustainable environment for all world citizens to live in harmony with each other.

        • Prof., I have been fighting this for 47 years and I fully understand your frustration. I too question why we women who make up 52% of the World’s Population do not rise up together and with the help of our sisters put a stop to this.

It is within our power – what stops us ? I don’t think humankind has it within us to live in world peace as you would like to see it – since the beginning it has not been so and I am afraid it never will be however, as the Majority of this world – I do believe that we can and must unite against the disgraceful disrespect that is shown toward women.

I will stand with you! Please list your website!
