Jesus demonstrated there is no ‘Man’s’ or ‘Woman’s’ work!

Update 8/4/2010  5:14 PM E A California federal judge strikes down Proposition 8, the state’s law that prohibits same-sex marriage. Federal judge rules California’s gay marriage ban is unconstitutional!

Organized religion has no place in our government, 1st. Amendment, (Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ) our founders knew there should be a separation. I believe that also covers religious laws cannot be imposed on anyone. ALL religions impose on their people what Our Constitution does not or should not tolerate our citizens to be legally bound to. If we continue to allow Judea/Christian imposition on some of our citizens how can we stop Sharia Law from being imposed on some others i.e. Islamic religionslike the Taliban who practice barbaric acts? Aisha:18-year-old sentenced by a Taliban The US currently has laws imposed because of religion, gay marriage is one such law imposed on citizens strictly based on religion alone.

Anne Rice leaves her church over a Christian Rock group who believes gays should be executed. Anne Rice Quits Christianity: Will she quit the Democratic Party too?

Ironically women are still fighting for equal rights and are stymied because of Phyllis Shaffly and her Christian dogma about women serving in the military and all sorts of archaic ideas.

Our own Joycelyn Anderson is just back from Seneca Falls 2 where Christian women are fighting against The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood an organization with offices on the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. It was formed in 1987 to oppose “the growing movement of feminist egalitarianism” in churches. The council countered with a “complementarian” interpretation the Bible that affirms that men and women are equally in the image of God but assigns them “complementary differences” in role and function.

When I read the comments made against the women who demanded an apology for “anti- women teaching” – I was shocked. Some of the comments were dogmatic quoting scriptures out of context

Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. In all honesty, your problem is not with CBMW your problem is with the Bible.
Suzanne,

Some comments telling these women what their jobs were and demanding them to get home and sit down and shut up or risk going to hell. Indeed the women named this meeting Seneca Falls 2 correctly. The more things change the more they remain the same.

I was immediately reminded about Martha and Mary. There are two passages of Scripture which mention the contrast between Martha and Mary and how each was called by the Lord to serve Him.

They are LUKE 10:38-42 when Jesus taught in her home while only Martha busied herself preparing food for her guests; and JOHN 12:2 when Jesus visited her home just six days before His crucifixion. We find her busy again preparing food while her sister Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with costly perfume.

Finally John 11:1-46 The third time the two women were mentioned they all three equally were given everlasting life along with their brother Lazarus for serving the Lord each in his and her own way.

If you are a Christian and you read and follow the Bible you believe his word. These are his words. We are all called according to his will and in the end – God decides not us! And the following is what Jesus left us to follow.

First in Luke 10:38-42

Martha and Mary each chose how to best serve the Lord. Martha prepared food and Mary sat at his feet to learn. Martha complained but Jesus accepted the contribution each made and rebuked Martha for complaining. His lesson you still have not learned. It is good that you should sit at his feet and listen instead of decide who should be doing what!

Then in John 12 — The Anointing at Bethany

1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead,[a] whom He had raised from the dead. 2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

4 But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor?” 6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

7 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept[c] this for the day of My burial. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”

So Mary is found ministering to Jesus this rime while Martha prepares food. Again Jesus is forced to speak out for Mary and her work for the Lord. He rebukes Lazarus this time. It is clear that Jesus does not stop Mary from learning nor from ministering for Christ in the way that she felt called to do so. He mentions that she has this planned from the time he has taught her!

Moreover, read John 11:1-46 about the rebirth of Martha, Mary and Lazarus equally. In the following he calls for her and offers her eternal life for her belief in him as he does to Martha for her work and Lazarus for his. Clearly he values all three for their contributions as see them as equals in his heart and before God. Clearly Jesus taught us in these passages men and women were equal in his eyes and there is no Man’s or Woman’s work!

Based on the simple example shown above it is easy to see how religious leaders can interpret scriptures and teach their people to be hateful to others based on that interpretation. Hateful, is not Godly at all. Apparently church leaders have decided to use religion to bludgeon the people over the head not with the scriptures as they were written but as they are interpreted or misinterpreted.

In their wisdom our founders dictated there was to be God in our lives but a separation between church and state. God is not a church. We cannot remove God who resides in many hearts by faith but we better remove organized religion which perverts the love of God and the freedom for all to worship each in her/his own way in her/his own church so long as that church does not impose its edict on any citizens who refuse to follow the religious laws of that church. Moreover, the citizenry should never have imposed on a free country any law based on a religious more`.

If we are to be a free nation we cannot impose religion on others not our religion anymore than we can tolerate someone else imposing their religion on us. And it could happen. Look around you- Do you want to see anyone in this country live under Sharia Law – I tell you now – you will have to give up ALL religious based laws or allow all religion based laws. Think about that! Think hard! Keep your laws in your home and heart but don’t leave America open to the bloody Religious War which is about to break out right here on our own land.

America was founded for the purpose of religious freedom. Keep America Free for All! God Bless America and God Bless You.

So many of us haven’t read these documents or haven’t looked at them since we were in school.  Very empowering to spend some time reading them.

  1. “Bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will, to be rightful, must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal laws must protect, and to violate would be oppression.” –Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural, 1801.
