Oil Spill not topping list of concerns for Americans

Barbara – with comment from BJ

I recently saw a poll taken where Americans were asked what issues are of importance to them. Immigration was at the top at 48 percent..The oil spill in the gulf was at the bottom at 9 percent.

I am Wondering how the devastation of our Gulf coastline is of no significant importance, to not only our POTUS and our elected but to WE the people also.

I have been blessed to have lived high above the ocean in Florida.

But you only need to have stood by the ocean once in order to comprehend the magnitude of her incredible blessings.

You only need to have felt but once the warm breeze she offers up and the taste of the salt air.

You only need to have seen the aerobatics of a pelican and a sea gull as they soar above the amazing colors of blues and greens You only need to have seen but once dolphins dancing in the white caps in the sun or under the light of a full moon The grace of a sting ray, seemingly floating among the schools of brightly colored fish.

You only need to have seen a shark but once to understand beauty, strength, power and grace To see a sea turtle hatch and take to the sea for the first time to be amazed at instinct.

Star fish floating among the coral reef.. Bright white sand dollars floating in the surf..sea shells covering the shore line.

You need

to have seen but once the colors of her waters to comprehend that she and all she holds are today being murdered by OIL…freely flowing, unstoppable, uncontrollable and yet only 9 percent are concerned that Our ocean once the unpaintable colors of blues and greens are now colored in blacks and browns.

Her breezes now are permeated with the smell of the dying sea life of those magnificent creatures that once danced on water.

The taste of salt air is now replaced with that of toxins.

Pelicans and Sea gulls are covered in oil and are gasping for air.

Dolphins and sting rays are desperately trying to escape..death.

Sea turtles and other precious gifts are trapped in the burning oil, being offered up as a solution and we the people willingly accept this as a corporate and government resolution.

Star fish, sand dollars and sea shells are now undistinguished among the tar balls on the shoreline.

She is dying..slowing suffocating.

And we will accept the only thing being offered… monetary restitution?

I have received hundreds of emails from the elected each blaming this one that one and asking for campaign donations. I at this point don’t give a crap who is to blame and I will donate to the first elected official who stops the blame game and steps forward and does something to end the murder of our most precious of resources.

Why the hell are we the people ignoring this? Why are we allowing our elected to ignore the largest environmental disaster this planet has ever witnessed?

Our ocean is dying and you only need to have stood in her presence but once to comprehend the devastating loss to each and everyone of us.

Editorial Comment : Barbara, I saw the poll too and Immigration along with Jobs and Economy were on the list with the Oil spill. I recall thinking that surely no one could choose between the 4 . I couldn’t. After reading your piece – I have to agree that this Oil Spout just may be the most important Immediate danger because it must be stopped and could have and should have been nuked to a halt on day three. The other problems will take more time and have been long running problems that will require a political solution.

  1. Seems as if nothing a priority with this
    Administration. Economy, unemployment,
Securing our borders, gulf oil tsunami..plenty
Of time for golf not the gulf!!

  2. We knew more than 2 years ago this is what an Obama presidency would be like., it is too bad people did’nt listen to us. He does not stand for anything now, just as he did not stand for anything as a US Senator. How is it that we had him figured out from the beginning, but others fell for his pretty words and lies? This is one time that it sucks to be right!!!

    • Yes there is no consolation in being right – none at all except perhaps in hoping they learned something – that is those who learned. Sadly there are some who did not learn and there are some who like it just the way it is. You see Sandy – some want America destroyed and he is one of them 0 he and his merry band of destroyers. I am sadly thinking she was or is part of the problem too- I can hardly believe I was ever a Dem! I know I will never be one again – nor a Republican . Let’s go shake some trees! Throw them all out!

  3. I am all for throwing them all out, and I am with you. I can hardly believe I was a Democrat for all those years. The only thing I can offer in our defense is that I do believe we had some good Democrats in the past, but what happened? May God see fit to help us return our nation to the one we loved and were proud of. I am hoping for that light at the end of the tunnel, but some days with everything Obama is messing up, it gets pretty discouraging. Full speed ahead to November, and then 2012. I can’t wait to throw that arrogant imposter out of the WH!!!!!!!

  4. I agree, if as they say, It wasn’t so sad it would be
Our POTUS has spent more time on the golf course
than on the gulf coast. Spent more time with Paul
McCartney than he did with Tony Hayward.
Seems the only jobs created are for party planners in
This POTUS ran on HOPE and CHANGE and those
Who ran to the polls will run again chanting
Yes we can….this time WE must be there yelling
    NO you can’t !!
The Hypocrisy is as big as the oil spill.
