A PIONEER AND ROLE MODEL,  who dared to reach for the stars and set into motion a place in history for all women to celebrate!

The legacy that she leaves behind is what dreams are made of!

A woman who started off from humble beginnings, Juanita Goggins went on to become the first black woman elected to the South Carolina Legislature in 1974.

When interviewed by the Associated Press, she replied:  “I am going to Columbia to be a legislator, not just a black spot in the House chambers,” she told The Associated Press in 1974 following her victory over an incumbent white man from a district just south of Charlotte, N.C.

She went on to say that voters “were weary of poor representation. They were ready to accept a person who was sincere and concerned about things. Those feelings go beyond color,” Goggins said.”

Her story is not about the D’s or the R’s, this is about one woman, who through her dedication and devotion,  set the standards for excellence!

Her many achievements are a testament to her determination, sincerety and concern for her community and state.

We at The Majority United – RIDS, Republicans, Independents and Democrats are saddened by the death of this pioneer and role model for all women, young and old and we applaud and celebrate her life’s achievements!

  1. Why this is not all over the news is beyond me! What a pity that this brave wonderful woman had to freeze to death! How can this happen right here in the US- My heart breaks for my brave sister who did these great things and was forgotten ad died alone.
We shall raise her up today and I will see to it she is placed high on our WEBSITE!
She -Juanita Goggins -is now another one of my my sheroes! God Bless Juanita Goggins

  2. There was a small article in our local newspaper about her. There are so many heartbreaking things happening every day, it just seems unreal. Kinda feels like we have been in a fog since the2008 primaries and general election. Maybe it is just me, but it seems like we have been in a downward spiral since Obama was ‘selected’. Call me crazy, maybe I am, but I still say the man is pure evil. Hurry 2012!!!
