Sen. Collins on the Administration’s Handling of the Christmas Bomber

Senator Collins does an excellent job in laying out the problems in the handling of the Attempted Christmas Day Bomber in the following video. There has been little reason given by those who want terrorists tried in civilian courts as to why military tribunals are not adequate. There is a media perception that military tribunals are ‘less fair,’ but that has not been backed up by evidence. The complaints under the Bush administration were legitimate because there was no timeline for detainees to be tried. That was rectified with the bipartisan vote to institute military tribunals. Those who want civilian trails would be wise to answer the questions, ‘Why civilian courts?’ and ‘Why are military courts not suitable?’

  1. hi BJ
i believe that all these terrorist deserve a trail but a military one
not a civilian court . but unfortunately the obama-adim has given them in some cases to be tryed in a civil court
that being said i disagree with the senator collins about them being read their miranda rights for the ones that will have civilian trails . because if they are having civilian trails and convicting people with out reading them their rights it sets a dangerous precedents for the rest of us . in other words if they could pick you or me up not read us our rights and convict us. this is one of those rare times im going agree with bambi

  2. and one other thing for some of these tea party folks and lets face it most of them do consider themself Conservative indepents
ask them if they would vote for someone that considered themselves a liberal independent
and iv talked to plenty of them i here the same thing from all of them hes ok with me as long as hes an american indepented but everytime i ask them ok will you vote for an American liberal indepent not one of them have said
    yes not a one.

ask them that question and get back to me on it some how i think that your number will be very small also

    • Think you make a couple excellent points. If he is going to be tried in civilian courts he definitely has to be read his rights; just not convinced that civilian courts are where he should be tried. For me what I find so troubling is that it appears that almost no thought was given how terrorists captured on U.S soil would be handled.

Can’t say I disagree about the tea parties either. It’s sort of an interesting progression as the very first tea parties were put on by libertarian Ron Paul supporters, but it has developed into something else. Can’t say I support or oppose them. Think there are some good points being made, but also think they’re not exactly the most open minded group either.
