As I see it by BettyJean Kling
Hillary’s greatest legacy remains unrealized and until and unless we grasp it before this election – it will be too late to use it to its highest and greatest use when it will benefit us most- right now!
I have run the gamut of emotions about Hillary since the 90’s. This woman has got to be the most misunderstood lady in all of History. The books about her range from angel to devil or should I say bitch to dish. She has done remarkably well under the most daunting of circumstances and yet she remains so difficult to understand. I can get so angry with her one minute and so proud of her the next – to call her an enigma is an understatement but to say she has left women the greatest legacy is also an understatement no one has yet to realize.
If I were in Hillary’s place – I would not quit- I would die first but I would not quit. I wrote on June 4- ‘Even Rosa Parks risked her life but would not give up her seat at the front of the bus’.
I thought what if my child’s life was threatened? Well I have a child on a deathbed and yet she and I send me out to do this work instead of my spending more quality time together because it is a greater thing we do to save the country.
So, for the greater good why would she do what she is doing? Is there any reason for her – being the woman she is- to seemingly cave this way? And wouldn’t you know it – I actually came up with a good reason. I have listened very carefully to every speech she has given since she suspended hoping for a few words to cling to and I have always found them.
On June 3, she seemed to urge us to continue on without her.
“Always aim high, work hard, and care deeply about what you believe in. When you stumble, keep faith. When
you’re knocked down, get right back up. And never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on.”
On August 26, she seemed to urge us to continue on without her.
“America is still around after 232 years because we have risen to the challenge of every new time, changing to be faithful to our values of equal opportunity for all and the common good.
And I know what that can mean for every man, woman and child in America. I’m a United States senator because in 1848 a group of courageous women and a few brave men gathered in Seneca Falls, New York, many traveling for days and nights, to participate in the first convention on women’s rights in our history.
And so dawned a struggle for the right to vote that would last 72 years, handed down by mother to daughter to granddaughter – and a few sons and grandsons along the way.
These women and men looked into their daughters’ eyes, imagined a fairer and freer world, and found the strength to fight. To rally and picket. To endure ridicule and harassment. To brave violence and jail.
And after so many decades – 88 years ago on this very day – the 19th amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote would be forever enshrined in our Constitution.
My mother was born before women could vote. But in this election my daughter got to vote for her mother for president.
This is the story of America. Of women and men who defy the odds and never give up.
How do we give this country back to them?
By following the example of a brave New Yorker , a woman who risked her life to shepherd slaves along the Underground Railroad.
And on that path to freedom, Harriett Tubman had one piece of advice.
If you hear the dogs, keep going.
If you see the torches in the woods, keep going.
If they’re shouting after you, keep going.
Don’t ever stop. Keep going.
If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.
Even in the darkest of moments, ordinary Americans have found the faith to keep going.
I’ve seen it in you. I’ve seen it in our teachers and firefighters, nurses and police officers, small business owners and union workers, the men and women of our military – you always keep going.
We are Americans. We’re not big on quitting. …
We don’t have a moment to lose or a vote to spare.
Nothing less than the fate of our nation and the future of our children hang in the balance.
I want you to think about your children and grandchildren come election day. And think about the choices your parents and grandparents made that had such a big impact on your life and on the life of our nation.
We’ve got to ensure that the choice we make in this election honors the sacrifices of all who came before us, and will fill the lives of our children with possibility and hope.
That is our duty, to build that bright future, and to teach our children that in America there is no chasm too deep, no barrier too great – and no ceiling too high – for all who work hard, never back down, always keep going, have faith in God, in our country and in each other.
Thank you so much. God bless America and Godspeed to you all.”
There was one line in there that I left out and I show it with … it is the line where she mentions we should vote for Barack Obama and we know she had to say that – she was after all at his coronation and that is was leads me to the rest of my story.
Now call me Pollyanna but I would like to believe that Hillary was sacrificing herself for us that night. Clearly she laid out a resounding call to us not to stop the fight she began. Before she suspended what did she and all her supporters think of Barack Obama? Why should we believe they feel any different now?
They don’t! Unless you believe she and her supporters were lying we have no other choice but to believe that she and others including Joe Bidden the VP candidate standing at Obama’s side right now told us the truth before they were forced to fall in line.
I believe that Hillary has given the speech of her life in telling us to go on and she has indeed urged Americans to step up and fight for our country as those before us fought to give us the freedom to do so now. It is our country and she has clearly reminded us that we must fight for it NOW!
What better way to move women to fight than to show us why we must? Only by showing us the reality of what happens to women who try to run for office could she prove the sexism that exists. Prove how in a country that boasts equality and civil rights to the world – a country that does not tolerate racism in any way- tolerates blatant sexism which can be nothing less than a violation of civil rights that exists in this nation against women.
What Hillary has in fact done by supporting Obama, is given us an example of how the United States preaches Women Rights around the world but tolerates the abuse of women. Right here at home and then forces them to be subservient to their abusers. Yes Hillary’ Greatest Legacy is the uncovering of America’s dirtiest secret!
Hillary’s greatest legacy remains unrealized and until and unless we grasp it before this election – it will be too late to use it to its highest and greatest use when it will benefit us most- right now!

In order for the Women’s Revolt to be heard, we must vote down the takeover of the Democratic Party by the misogynist DNC leadership and the Hillary haters in the Obama campaign. We will NOT “get over it” and “move on”, as the Obamabots advise us. We will NOT donate/support/volunteer to elect a President who denigrates women and who has waffled on practically every position he espoused in February and March.
In order for us to be heard and respected, we must vote for the ONLY alternative which has a chance of getting elected. For some of us, that is a very hard decision to make. Much easier to write in Hillary or vote Green or whatever. But really, ONLY THE REPUBLICANS have a chance of beating the Democratic Presidential ticket. Vote as if your life depended on it! Vote as if your daughter’s or granddaughter’s or niece’s life depended on it! If we don’t have the respect of the electorate, we will continue to be marginalized, underpaid, and left in our later years with unequal pension benefits and inadequate health care. The Republican ticket may not be the one we would have chosen, but there is only 1 way to get our message across – vote against the Democrats at the top of the ticket.
You betcha I support Sarah Palin and John McCain! I suggest today, October 26, 2008, we wish Hillary a happy birthday and appeal to her to put country over party to save our country from Obama’s policies. She knows as well as I do how incredibly dangerous they will be. So, Happy Birthday Hillary! I hope you joy, happiness and health throughout the course of your life. Unfortunately, I cannot support you in backing Obama. As a former Hillary supporter I am proud to say I now support McCain/Palin- 08. The reason is primarily because the Democratic Party has changed so much since the start of the primary season in 2007 and all the “boys” ganged up to beat you, they no longer represent my ideas/ideals/beliefs as a “US” citizen. Admittedly, the Republican Party does not represent all of them either, but I can honestly say Senator McCain and Sarah Palin do not scare me and Obama/Biden really scares the heck out of me. So, for now and the foreseeable future, I will be re-registering as an Independent and voting Republican for President. I pray that America see’s the light before November 4th.
Kinda funny how Hillary was trying to get that Katrina money hidden in Iraq Bank! Or how nobody ever talked about her drunken daughter at the college concerts being hauled away by the SS. Or the communist law firm she worked for in Oakland,Ca. How about a candidate that believes in America and not the CFR or any of those other groups bent on destroying America. Or what about her calling her personal bodyguards in Ak. Pigs? A real class act she is!
Brian – do you have hard fact or are you one of those that brings bullshit to the table? I don’t need bullshit- I am serious here and I am trying to change the way we do business not throw crap against the wall for the hell of it- so wha tis your game ?
I find it amazing how people respond! Do your homework! I honestly try to communicate and you talk like teenager. For
One I am a minister! So I will not even bother trying to interact with your so called mission. As a double veteran that held one of the highest security clearances in the military I have been disabled for over 13 years and I do constant research. Do you even have associates in the CIA or FBI? Do you have any clue as to what happened in Mena Ak? If you don’t know what happened to all that money that was suppose to go to the victims of Katrina then GET down there and talk to some other MINISTERS! The people didn’t get it! I work with other ministers that work with some of the biggest atrocities caused by our government. Good day!
I believe your Katrina story. From blogs over the past 12 or so years, I speak to many across the country.
Rather than send money to the media/state approved “charities” I contacted an old cyber friend whose town was hit hard in Mississippi, she is a practicing, religious Baptist, and asked for her little church’s name and addy so I could send directly to them.
She would report to us on that particular board, what they were doing, who they were helping and how.
And so, I’d send my hundred here, hundred, there, sometimes more every few weeks to them.
The first donation elicited a letter from them that said in effect:
“$33.03 for food, milk and formula for the ‘Smiths.”
“$14.99 for twin size sheets for the “Smiths.”
$32.99 for queen size sheets for the Smiths.
$18.99 for size 8 sneakers for John Smith.”
________
$100.00
Seeing this, I had to laugh, reminded me of Catholic charities, even better, Catholic charities average about 2% or so admin fees.
I sent the next $100 check and advised them to please not bother sending a receipt as they can use the .37 cent stamp money to better purpose.
A few days later, I get another accounting, same way and to the penny.
NO charge for labor or time, Christian charities REALLY know how to squeeze every penny.
What that little church did not divulge but my cyber friend told me, the “Smiths” were a local black family, always poor, always a hardworking part of the community and had lost everything in the storm.
Johnny Smith, size 8 was about 12 years old.
She told me about all the empty trailors they were not allowed to access. About all the with held FEMA supplies.
FWIW, some from out of the area DO know the atrocities.
Many of us were in DC on the 12th.
I hope you watch both in the entirety, they are eye openers re BOTH sides of the aisle.
And please, no killing the messenger.
