Sarah Palin Supporters did NOT swing the NOW election….

Hillary Clinton supporters who were fed up and ticked off at NOW for not defending Sarah Palin against the sexist attacks, that had already knee capped Hillary’s presidential campaign, could be the ones that swung the NOW election. The meme that Sarah Palin (pro-lifers) swung the election is a re-writing of history. Many women were quite pissed off about NOW’s silence regarding the sexism perpetrated against Sarah Palin. Kim Gandy, as President of NOW, held the organization back from speaking out against the sexism and in fact, allowed members to use sexist attacks against Sarah Palin, when campaigning for a man who used sexist attacks himself. And the anger has been boiling ever since. What about the conscience rule? What about having to consult our pastors and fathers before an abortion procedure? What about FOCA? And the list goes on……….

Does this mean that people who defended Sarah Palin against sexist attacks are Republican, Pro-lifers. The answer to that is an emphatic NO. In fact, that is quite a jump. Defending a woman from sexist attacks is completely different than agreeing with her politically. Many women have come to realization that regardless of political ideology, women should defend women from sexist attacks. PERIOD! That doesn’t mean giving political support.

Where things get confusing is when you add in PUMA’s (Hillary supporters – Pro Choice Democrats) who decided they would make protest votes against Barack Obama. The reasoning for these protest votes are quite varied. For some PUMA’s the protest vote was against the DNC for their behavior on May 31st at the RBC meeting. For others it was a protest vote against Barack Obama for using and allowing sexist attacks on Hillary Clinton. And for some, Sarah Palin was just the next victim of sexism and people felt compelled to defend her with their votes.

But the meme from Lyles and Gandy supporters, that anyone who disagrees with them or their supporters is a RW lemming, is quite reminiscent of the type of smears that PUMA’s have been subjected to for well over a year now.

PUMA’s are not Right Wing Republicans. We are pro-choice left leaning liberals who hold fast to certain principles. Like no cheating, or bigotry of any form. I never supported Sarah Palin, I made a protest vote against the DNC and the sexism perpetrated against Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Most PUMA’s I know made protest votes. That is not to say that there were not right wing Republicans who tried to find a home within PUMA and co opt it. I have been fighting that since last Summer, starting with Just Say No Deal. I removed myself from that organization the moment they decided to use John McCain resources to further what they felt was the PUMA cause. I had verbal altercations with the founders of Just Say No Deal and members who were co-opting it for John McCain. I and others, thank goodness, had a very different idea about what the PUMA cause was. We held fast to the value that every PUMA was to make their own decision regarding their protest votes and endorsed NO candidate. Also, I helped co-found this website to make it clear to anyone reading that we are left leaning, fed up, disenfranchised democrats without true political representation. We hope to have some representation one day!

Hope this sets the history straight for any Obama supporting lurkers out there who find it fashionable to re-write it. And just for the benefit of Obama supporting lurkers, know that I’m still pissed off about the RBC meeting and the DNC manipulation of an election and the sexism, along with millions of others.

Not to rub salt into the wound, Obama supporter lurkers, but how’s all the Obama worship working out for ya now?? Torture?? Wiretapping?? Healthcare?? Conscience Rule?? FOCA?? DATD?? DOMA?? Transparency?? When will you wake the hell up?? What will it take??

  1. It is important to note that all PUMA’s are just as independent in their thinking as any other group- women are not lemmings. Within each group there appears to be underlying currents – I just found out about one in this writing I had not known about.
As for me- I am neutral and wish to sty that way- i see clearly that the two parties are having great time dividing us one against the other using party politics and I’ll not be a part of it.
Hopefully women will come together and be united and tell both parties to go to hell and take our place as the real majority . We the people not left – not right but the owners of this country !

  2. I think Sarah Palin just needs more experience and has to do more “homework”. So she might be a far better politician. But at her current state she really would have been a bad vice president.

  3. Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton – that is for sure and it would take her 35 years to catch up! I also do not agree with many of her issues but I would lay down my life for her right to run and I will defend her as a women against sexism and misogyny – It must stop – we must not let them do this to any women ever again.
And – I am not sure she could do any worse than some of these lousy male presidents either!
But what do I know – I am not sure we have had a decent president in years!

  4. You said this beautifully. It is the truth. There were no Sarah Palin supporters who voted in the National Organization for Women election. Only Hillary supporters who came home to save their organization. This one was for you Hillary!

  5. Hillary supportrs are sick and tired of getting thrown under the bus and they are tired aof women being mistreated – we should have stood up for her right after Iowa – but we are standing NOW and we will not sit down again. This ine is for you Hillary and thanks you for standing up for us – we will take over now.
