Dear Puma PAC

Time Magazine named “Puma” one of the Top 10 Buzzwords of 2008. Let’s make 2009 the Year of the Puma!

Since the election our goals have changed slightly and we’ve modified our mission to adjust to the most pressing consequences of November 4th.

Puma PAC is in this for the long haul. Our Action Teams are working non-stop in five major areas:

1. Passing the Equal Rights Amendment after 86 years of struggle

2. Documenting and Protesting sexism in the mainstream media AND educating the public about its widespread and long term effects

3. Developing a national women’s rights curriculum for all American children

4. Researching and investigating voter fraud and campaign finance violations during the 2008 election

5. Protecting women’s lives by strengthening anti-femicide laws and drawing attention to the crisis of woman-lynching in the United States

To be a permanent and effective force for political action, we need a working budget. We need money to pay for the printing and distribution of the wonderful flyers the NEW Era Team has designed to gain support for the ERA. We need money to consult lawyers regarding voter fraud investigations. We need money to help develop and pass Louisa’s Law; to testify at public hearings in Washington D.C.; to work with professionals on our women’s history curriculum, and MUCH MORE.

Working with a volunteer consultant, we’ve settled on a fundraising goal of $50,000 by March 1, 2009. As always, every single penny raised goes straight into our political activities and our overhead is so LOW it barely registers.

If everyone reading today commits to contributing $25 by March 1st (only$5 a week!) we’ll reach our goal in two shakes of a lamb’s tail!

If you believe in Puma PAC and our mission — if you want us to continue being the most effective group of political activists in a generation — will you help us reach our goal today?

Thank you, as always, for EVERYTHING you do to support Puma PAC — the Voice of the VOTERS!

Murphy.

  1. Betty, can you tell us in a few words what Louisa’s Law would mean? I have seen references to this proposal but don’t know any specifics. Your family as always is in my prayers.

  2. We are working out the details however –
1- no slap on wrist- violence is serious- zero tolerance-no ROR – bail comiserate to offence

2- abused has no part in drop the charge or weight of charges-

3- forbid abuser from phone call contact with abused or any family members from jail or after release -
automatic order of protection issued after release so abused and family are protected from abuser.

4-repeat offender- no ROR – mandatory bail escalated so that REPEATED OFFENDER IS KEPT FROM RETURNING TO repeat again- – repeat offenders usually kill someone.

  3. Betty, I support your victims’ rights advocacy with all my heart.

Regarding bail, however, I’m afraid that reasonable bail is considered a constitutional right and it’s purpose is not to deter crime, but to make sure that the accused appears in court. Reform of the bail system, such as making bail commensurate with the offense, would require a constitutional amendment.

First time offenders, or alleged offenders, retain all their due process rights until conviction, so bail simply cannot be used as a deterrent against them.

I am so sorry that our system does so much to protect the bad guys and so little to protect victims– but there you have it. I’m no lawyer, but I fear that the bail provisions may have to be replaced with other measures to protect crime victims.

  4. I am all for constitutional rights – isn’t it sad that the bad guys rights are protected to the point that innocent folks are not protected at all.

Now lets talk about the fact that this creep bashed his wifes head in 6 months earlier with a hammer and they let him out without any bail at all. I guess they were sure he would show up for court and they were right – he wasn’t a flight risk at all he was easily found for court — he was right there in the jail on court day for blowing my other daughters brains out.

So my idea of reasonable bail is not to get out of jail free! And I really do not see how that interferes with the bum’s constitutional rights.

If you bash a women’s head in with a hammer – and she is a cancer patient weighing 88 Lbs. and you weight 250 lbs. you should be charged with attempted murder and have a reasonable bail-.

You should not be allowed to plead guilty to a lesser charge and walk out the damned door wothout any bail at all ( having been arrested for DV with a gun in the past ) and 60 days later blow her sister’s brains all over the living room wall.

There is a such a thing as a Constitutional right to a get out of jail free card – really?

  5. Betty, who appointed the judge who let this guy out? I think we need to know.

Who was the District Attorney that let this guy plead to a lesser charge? Once again, I think we need to know.

How many times was this guy arrested, how many times convicted, and who let him out? People need to know if they are to understand which politicians and judges are to blame.
