Women’s Hall of Shame Club

Another Rant by: BettyJean Kling

DNC proves Civil Rights abuse of women.

The DNC continues to use Hillary Clinton to promote Barack Obama and to fight for his candidacy and encourage women to vote for him full well knowing that this is causing women to loose faith in her by making her look like a victim. It sure looks like Hillary’s loyalty to party over sisterhood is exceeded only by her betrayal to country by placing Party over democracy. She was in it to win it! When she said she would fight for us – we believed her – If she now begs us to vote for him and we can’t – well the more they force her – the more we balk. The problem is not only did they take Hillary out of the 2008 election they are now taking her out of the 2012 election as well.

We have forever lost the best candidate we had, the best chance the DNC had to legally recover the White House, but she has been needlessly sacrificed. Perhaps it was the only way she could find to create the change that needs to follow. It is her choice – as much as I hate to admit it, perhaps this stark demonstration of the abuse of women’s rights is what we need to wake us up.

By allowing herself to be sacrificed she has shown us that women in American are undervalued even – or perhaps in spite being smarter, and more qualified. Hillary has shown that sexism exists and that women’s rights are being violated daily all across America, she was not only mistreated and told to suck it up, her mistreatment was ignored and she was humiliated if she showed any signs of self defense, she was ridiculed if anyone came to her defense and now she is being forced to defend her abusers.

Three cheers for the Republican’s who came to her defense more than once then sought another women for a high position as VP and illuminated for us that Hillary was not a rare occurrence but a reminder of what had happened twenty-four years ago when they tried to run  the first female VP, Gerri Ferraro in 1984. Oh it was made abundantly clear when Gov. Palin was nominated as VP and found herself inducted in to the Hall of Shame Club where three strikes and they hope all women will be out of the running for top positions in the old boy’s Club in the USA forevermore.

She may never be President – but she will always be the woman that proved Sexism was the reason why not!

As for Sarah, Hillary will have made it impossible for them to get away with this again without a fight. She will have made it impossible because of her struggle and sacrifice to show us that women are mistreated and this mistreatment is no less than a violation of human rights.

America‘s women and America’s men along with them must stand up to the Democrat Party and say – NO! We will not treat our women this way nor will we accept this kind of government- We must turn our backs on this party in order to break them once and for all. Break them and either resurrect them anew or start a new party – this one is done! No party can ignore half of its population and survive!

Democrats Stoop to New Lows !

Another Rant by: Bettyjean Kling

I guess Obama intends to win this by any means possible and he appears to have the help of the entire Democrat Party- unless that is – we stop them! Where are the Carter folks now?  They have  been overseeing elections in third world countries haven’t we degraded enough to warrant their attention? I believe we’re there now!

Jimmy get off your ass and do something! We have voter fraud going on right here in the USA dear man.

Bill get off your ass and say something! Will you sit by and let this guy steal this election first from your wife  now from the better candidate left standing?

Hillary- Are you really going to let party come before Country full well knowing that without honesty and integrity even at the the expense of your own life or career there is no democracy left left to fight for?  This was your year- we thought you would lay down your life  before you would lay down for the party. I guess all the true Patriots have picked up the torch and hear the dogs barking and we are running on without you- too bad it’s without you!

And Claire if they promised you – you’d be the first Madame President-for you collusion in this scheme-  don’t count on it babe! We won’t forget!

John and Sarah- You will have to do- come help us fight this fight – we will not lay down for this Chicago Style Politics- no in the USA – Not on our watch- we are the Free US Now Mavericks in the Middle!

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights.  The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family.  Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility.  When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts – not a free society.”

Our Country Deserves Better

I Just found out this morning about this tour and I am thinking maybe we can get them to swing on over and see the NY/NJ contingent before they drop down into DC? I can be in NY/NJ and rally the group so let’s give them a shout and see? We have some of the most exciting folks right here in the NJ NY area that would love nothing more thast to come out for this tour with our resume and flags. Have a suggestion on a location to host our stop in your city or community?  Email us at: info@OurCountryDeservesBetter.com.

From October 15th to the 29th you can join your fellow Americans at patriotic rallies across America where we will declare in one strong and united voice: OUR COUNTRY DESERVES BETTER THAN BARACK OBAMA!

As part of this tour we’ll be highlighting Barack Obama’s lack of executive experience, and we’re inviting you to participate. Here’s how:

Bring a copy of your resume to the rallies! That’s right, we’ll be collecting resumes from people at stops all across the nation, so if you have any executive experience — either as someone who ran or started your own small business, or a housemom who raised a family, or a senior-level executive who had high-level responsibilities, etc… be sure to bring your resume with you to the rally in your community.

We’ll display the giant stack of resumes for the national media at the end of our tour in Washington, D.C. And not only that, but we’ll also select 3 of the resumes and fly out those individuals, on our dime, to our Washington, D.C. news conference on Wednesday, October 29th as we highlight the fact that all those Americans who submitted resumes at our tour stops had more executive experience than Barack Obama, who now wants to be president & Commander in Chief of the United States! We’ll also make you available for media appearances/interviews if you’re up to it!

Don’t worry, you can always come out to our rallies even if you don’t bring a resume – but please be sure to bring your American flags either way!

Have a suggestion on a location to host our stop in your city or community? Email us at: info@OurCountryDeservesBetter.com.

Obama vs. Biden

Obama has clearly stated his position and is on record, in many places as being for clean coal technology.  Biden has a long standing record as well for being against it. So why are these two out on the campaign trail promising both?

Obama:

From Barack Obama’s own website, on his new Energy page, under “Create Millions Of New Green Jobs,” see:  Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology.

Obama:

The Science Debate 2008 — an effort spearheaded by half a dozen voters concerned about the state of American science — posed 14 questions to the major parties’ presidential candidates, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain. The reply from Obama when  asked “What is your position on the following measures that have been proposed to address global climate change — a cap-and-trade system, a carbon tax, increased fuel-economy standards, or research?

“Specifically, I will implement a market-based cap-and-trade system to reduce carbon emissions by the amount scientists say is necessary: 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. I will start reducing emissions immediately by establishing strong annual reduction targets with an intermediate goal of reducing emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.. . . I will also create a Technology Transfer Program dedicated to exporting climate-friendly technologies, including green buildings, clean coal and advanced automobiles, to developing countries to help them combat climate change.”

Obama:

On May 13, 2008, ABC News reported that both Clinton and Obama were wooing voters in West Virginia and Kentucky and both spoke about clean coal.

Not to be outdone, Senator Obama’s campaign has distributed flyers in Kentucky stating that “Barack Obama believes in clean Kentucky coal.” The flyers show a picture of giant barges carrying coal down the Ohio River.

Biden:

Joe Biden, in the following video responds to an anti-pollution supporter about clean coal saying “We’re not supporting clean coal.”  And further included statements about China polluting our air with their coal plants, he states, “No coal plants here in America,” he then goes on to say “Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there. Make them clean,” and “We’re not supporting clean coal.”

Biden:

Joe Biden, has been against the use of clean coal in the United States, as the video below shows.  He is also on record in an interview w as well as an interview where he was asked “What role does “clean coal” play in your vision for energy independence and climate security?

“I don’t think there’s much of a role for clean coal in energy independence, but I do think there’s a significant role for clean coal in the bigger picture of climate change. Clean-coal technology is not the route to go in the United States, because we have other, cleaner alternatives. But I would invest a considerable amount of money in research and development of clean-coal and carbon-sequestration technologies for export. China is building one new coal-fired plant per week. That’s not going to change unless there’s a fundamental change in technology, because they have about 300 years of dirty coal, and they’re going to use it” Grist 29 Aug 2007

Clean coal is a technology that would either turn coal to gas before burning, or else bury the carbon emissions deep underground after burning.

There are 7,400 people in Pennsylvania who work in coal mining (not including all of the people in industries that depend upon coal). About a quarter of the miners work in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Greene County is in the very southwest corner of the state. Its loyalty to the Democratic Party stretches back to the 19th century. It has voted Republican just twice since 1932: first in 1972, then in 2004 when George W. Bush eked out a 50-49 win.

Biden’s opposition to clean coal is not new and there is no rule in politics stating a vice presidential candidate must agree with the presidential candidate for their party on every issue that faces them, however the statement “We’re not supporting clean coal,” implies he is speaking for the campaign in direct contradiction of Barack Obama’s position on the trail, on the web and in interviews. What’s the deal Joe? Somebody get Ed Rendell some aspirin.

Is Biden getting ready to get himself thrown under the bus?

Women Count- Revisited

Another Rant by: Bettyjean Kling

Hopefully, you all remember that last week I challenged ‘Women Count’ to cease leaning toward Democrats or risk losing our support. I challenged them to count all of us- whether we are left, right or center and stop pigeon holing us by assuming we all need to be reminded that while we do not want Sarah Palin spoken ill of she still has Issues Women Count assumes they have a right to alert us about!  How dare they point these positions out for us as if to say these are our positions or our only issues? We can think for ourselves – we do not want Women count or anyone else reminding us what issues make this particular woman a no no. What are we mindless idiots? By count did you mean in numbers on the democratic ticket? I thought women count meant we count as viable human beings for who we are and how valuable we are just for being women just as we are not right or left  or a number on a ballot. Were you trying to empower us as women or as Democrats ?

“Much will be said and written in the days ahead about Gov. Palin’s views on issues, and we urge you to consider these positions with depth and thoughtfulness – she is anti-choice, pro-gun, and pro-big oil.” ~ Women Count’

Well that argument may be moot now at least for outward appearances but let us not be fooled based on what was last week and their failure to admit why the change of heart – I say we be vigilant. In other words – I want to se deeds not just words. Show me the beef!

Major parts of the letter for your review are below. I published this letter far and wide after they failed to respond, including their email addresses and urged my readers to write and ask them to join with me in calling for non partisan representation in our women’s groups.

The New Agenda, coincidently got quite a bump at the same time by The Washington Post and low and behold, ‘Women Count’ seems to have gotten the message. Unfortunately, they did not give credit where credit was due – that would be me and you folks. Keep up the good work – we are after all THE women who count!

* NOTE : The New Agenda: Amy Siskind refuses interview with MSNBC until there is a public apology by both Oberman and Matthews to America women for their sexism.

Way to go Amy!

Our new campaign: “i’m a woman. i have issues.”

I would like t think this was one of the letters the new campaign was designed around:

I went to you site today and while you are willing to defend Sarah against sexism I detect you are also cautioning us to remember she is a Republican and reminding us to keep her right wing policies in mind – as if anyone will let us forget them. Are you still leaning left?

Much will be said and written in the days ahead about Gov. Palin’s views on issues, and we urge you to consider these positions with depth and thoughtfulness – she is anti-choice, pro-gun, and pro-big oil.

Since you asked for our opinion and if you visit my blog http://freemenow.wordpress.com/2008/09/20/choice-and-change/ and read the comments I and others are getting you will see that women are tired of choosing one side or the other and want to be free of this reminder altogether now. If women really count – then count all women – women from both sides of the aisle.

I was hoping you WomenCount would stay neutral. I have been barraged by women group mail and email that berates the right and their views and then I get the same treatment from the left denigrating the left for theirs. It will never end and we will never move forward or be free so long as we are held hostage to this game. I must say that women today are only exposed to the extremes from both sides and that is simply not fair. This is what keeps women from truly moving ahead. Can’t we just be women instead of left or right – just this once – can we try it on for size and see if we like the way it fits?

I have just joined The New Agenda which promises to be non partisan. You can either lean toward the Dems or come to the middle but my support both financially and through my outreach on blog talk radio, my newsletters, my website, my email and blogs – I am going concentrate my efforts and support toward those where women will be most empowered to be free and not held back nor compelled to walk lockstep with others against gaining positions in government which will truly give them the power to chart their own destinies and that of their daughters and granddaughters.

If you agree that we need women’s groups to be non partisan, reach out to the founders of Women Count and encourage them to Free US Now and let us choose without prejudice. I know these women and their hearts are in the right place. They started out like us wanting things to be fair for Hillary but we are all women and it needs to be fair for all of us. The DNC made it impossible for Hillary- Let’s not punish Sarah and all women for god knows how long while we reward the DNC at the same time for what they did! Who will dare to run a woman again after this?

*Please blog this far and wide – cross post and let Women Count know you appreciate this change of heart.

Palin on Ahmadinejad

The Speech Palin WOULD HAVE GIVEN at Rally TODAY, If Obama Didn’t Have Her Removed from the Speaker’s List

Governor Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, was scheduled to speak today at a rally in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza to protest the appearance here of President Ahmadinejad of Iran. Her appearance was canceled by rally organizers who were facing threats from Senator Obama’s Campaign. Following are the remarks Mrs. Palin would have given:

Palin on Ahmadinejad: ‘He Must Be Stopped’

By SARAH PALIN | September 22, 2008

I am honored to be with you and with leaders from across this great country — leaders from different faiths and political parties united in a single voice of outrage.

Tomorrow, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come to New York — to the heart of what he calls the Great Satan — and speak freely in this, a country whose demise he has called for.

Ahmadinejad may choose his words carefully, but underneath all of the rhetoric is an agenda that threatens all who seek a safer and freer world. We gather here today to highlight the Iranian dictator’s intentions and to call for action to thwart him.

He must be stopped.

The world must awake to the threat this man poses to all of us. Ahmadinejad denies that the Holocaust ever took place. He dreams of being an agent in a “Final Solution” — the elimination of the Jewish people. He has called Israel a “stinking corpse” that is “on its way to annihilation.” Such talk cannot be dismissed as the ravings of a madman — not when Iran just this summer tested long-range Shahab-3 missiles capable of striking Tel Aviv, not when the Iranian nuclear program is nearing completion, and not when Iran sponsors terrorists that threaten and kill innocent people around the world.

The Iranian government wants nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency reports that Iran is running at least 3,800 centrifuges and that its uranium enrichment capacity is rapidly improving. According to news reports, U.S. intelligence agencies believe the Iranians may have enough nuclear material to produce a bomb within a year.

The world has condemned these activities. The United Nations Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend its illegal nuclear enrichment activities. It has levied three rounds of sanctions. How has Ahmadinejad responded? With the declaration that the “Iranian nation would not retreat one iota” from its nuclear program.

So, what should we do about this growing threat? First, we must succeed in Iraq. If we fail there, it will jeopardize the democracy the Iraqis have worked so hard to build, and empower the extremists in neighboring Iran. Iran has armed and trained terrorists who have killed our soldiers in Iraq, and it is Iran that would benefit from an American defeat in Iraq.

If we retreat without leaving a stable Iraq, Iran’s nuclear ambitions will be bolstered. If Iran acquires nuclear weapons — they could share them tomorrow with the terrorists they finance, arm, and train today. Iranian nuclear weapons would set off a dangerous regional nuclear arms race that would make all of us less safe.

But Iran is not only a regional threat; it threatens the entire world. It is the no. 1 state sponsor of terrorism. It sponsors the world’s most vicious terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. Together, Iran and its terrorists are responsible for the deaths of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980s, in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, and in Iraq today. They have murdered Iraqis, Lebanese, Palestinians, and other Muslims who have resisted Iran’s desire to dominate the region. They have persecuted countless people simply because they are Jewish.

Iran is responsible for attacks not only on Israelis, but on Jews living as far away as Argentina. Anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial are part of Iran’s official ideology and murder is part of its official policy. Not even Iranian citizens are safe from their government’s threat to those who want to live, work, and worship in peace. Politically-motivated abductions, torture, death by stoning, flogging, and amputations are just some of its state-sanctioned punishments.

It is said that the measure of a country is the treatment of its most vulnerable citizens. By that standard, the Iranian government is both oppressive and barbaric. Under Ahmadinejad’s rule, Iranian women are some of the most vulnerable citizens.

If an Iranian woman shows too much hair in public, she risks being beaten or killed.

If she walks down a public street in clothing that violates the state dress code, she could be arrested.

But in the face of this harsh regime, the Iranian women have shown courage. Despite threats to their lives and their families, Iranian women have sought better treatment through the “One Million Signatures Campaign Demanding Changes to Discriminatory Laws.” The authorities have reacted with predictable barbarism. Last year, women’s rights activist Delaram Ali was sentenced to 20 lashes and 10 months in prison for committing the crime of “propaganda against the system.” After international protests, the judiciary reduced her sentence to “only” 10 lashes and 36 months in prison and then temporarily suspended her sentence. She still faces the threat of imprisonment.

Earlier this year, Senator Clinton said that “Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is in the forefront of that” effort. Senator Clinton argued that part of our response must include stronger sanctions, including the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. John McCain and I could not agree more.

Senator Clinton understands the nature of this threat and what we must do to confront it. This is an issue that should unite all Americans. Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. Period. And in a single voice, we must be loud enough for the whole world to hear: Stop Iran!

Only by working together, across national, religious, and political differences, can we alter this regime’s dangerous behavior. Iran has many vulnerabilities, including a regime weakened by sanctions and a population eager to embrace opportunities with the West. We must increase economic pressure to change Iran’s behavior.

Tomorrow, Ahmadinejad will come to New York. On our soil, he will exercise the right of freedom of speech — a right he denies his own people. He will share his hateful agenda with the world. Our task is to focus the world on what can be done to stop him.

We must rally the world to press for truly tough sanctions at the U.N. or with our allies if Iran’s allies continue to block action in the U.N. We must start with restrictions on Iran’s refined petroleum imports.

We must reduce our dependency on foreign oil to weaken Iran’s economic influence.

We must target the regime’s assets abroad; bank accounts, investments, and trading partners.

President Ahmadinejad should be held accountable for inciting genocide, a crime under international law.

We must sanction Iran’s Central Bank and the Revolutionary Guard Corps — which no one should doubt is a terrorist organization.

Together, we can stop Iran’s nuclear program.

Senator McCain has made a solemn commitment that I strongly endorse: Never again will we risk another Holocaust. And this is not a wish, a request, or a plea to Israel’s enemies. This is a promise that the United States and Israel will honor, against any enemy who cares to test us. It is John McCain’s promise and it is my promise.

Thank you.

We know what we’ve got, but not what we’ll get!

By BettyJean Kling

As Democrats we have been told a million reasons why we can not vote Republican and we all hate George Bush – I know. But JMCC is so many steps up from Bush and Obama is so many steps down. We do not have a Democrat to vote for this year – we have a Republican and a do nothing Congress and their hand picked Obamacrat. This is a no brainer – pick the Republican at least we know what we’ve got in McCain.

We may not always agree with McCain – I don’t — but I know where he stands and I know he would and has laid down his life for his country. He has gone up against his own party , he has stood up to his president , he has risked his life and his job for his principles and has always looked out for what he thought right or wrong was the right thing to do for the country. He has listened and changed his mind on issued that the people urged him to represent the people on. He chose a women maverick VP against all odds.

As for Obama,  if the way he gamed the caucus’s is any indication of how he would run the country – no thanks, if how he and his campaign treats non Obamabots is any indication of how he treats American Citizens who are not his Obots is any indication – no thanks. If the way he gives speeches by teleprompter but can’t answer a question on the fly any indication of his readiness – I’ll pass. If the way they treat women is the change they are proposing – no way. If he couldn’t beat Hillary fair and square and then did not even consider her for VP – what does that tell you about his insecurity and common sense? If lying, cheating, stealing and having the entire democratic system brought to its knees on May 31 wasn’t enough, pulling the roll call fiasco in Denver shows this has become the Undemocratic Party and does not deserve our precious vote.

And finally, Obama has pulled the race card and blamed it on the Clintons. He has the media in his pocket and they have displayed blatant sexism toward Hillary and now Sarah. This obvious and hateful sexism amounts to nothing less than a woman’s rights, civil rights and human rights violation to which the Democratic Party, and the women’s groups and the civil right s groups did nothing. The Republican Party and John Mc Cain, to their credit, specifically except for one early lapse in judgment stood up against the ridicule of Hillary and does not tolerate any sexism against Sarah. This is not Bush this is John McCain and this Obama well who is this Obama?

McCain vs. Barack Obama: The Best President

  • We are tired of Washington Gridlock
  • We are tired of partisanship
  • We are tired of a do nothing congress
  • We need action; action on energy independence, education, health care, the economy, government spending, and victory in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • We need a leader; someone who will take action to solve our problems and finally put the needs of the country before the needs of the parties.
  • So who can give us what we need?
  • Who can really unite this country?
Let’s examine these options

Obama made speeches about out of control government spending
McCain has never taken an earmark in a 25 year career

Obama made speeches about the need for Campaign Finance Reform
McCain led a seven year bipartisan effort to make it happen (McCain Feingold)

Obama made speeches about the need to address climate change
McCain led the fight over climate change against his own party while creating legislation combat it
Obama made speeches about the need for Immigration reform
McCain led the bipartisan effort to make it happen at the cost of his own popularity within his party
Obama made speeches about bipartisanship
McCain led the2006 bipartisan Gang of 14, again against the will of his own party, to pass judges and avoiding a complete collapse of judicial confirmation rules
Obama made speeches about the need for energy independence
McCain leaves nothing off the table to achieve it

Obama made speeches about National Service
McCain served our country in a Vietnamese Prison for 5 years rejecting early release.
Obama made speeches about improving America’s relationships in the world
McCain cleared the path for the United States and Vietnam to normalize relations
Obama made speeches about corporate responsibility
McCain led the 1998 effort to finally hold the tobacco industry accountable

Obama made speeches about leaving Iraq without victory
McCain fought President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld to adopt a new strategy for victory, which will now allow us to leave Iraq a democratic and sovereign nation

Obama made speeches calling McCain a 3rd Bush term
McCain was asked by the leader of the Democratic Party to become his 2004 vice presidential candidate

  • When the Hype passes it will be time to decide
  • Important decisions need to be made
  • We have heard enough speeches; we need action.
  • Who do you trust to take real action to solve problems?
  • Not just give them lip service
  • Look at the records and ignore the hype

A Real McCain Supporter? Or Just a Clintonite on the Rebound?

By Marc Fisher – Washington Post
Sunday, September 21, 2008; C01

Democrat Lynette Long, a therapist from Bethesda, speaks about switching her support to the Republican presidential ticket at a rally in Fairfax County for nominee John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin. (By Susan Biddle — The Washington Post) Democrat Lynette Long, a therapist from Bethesda, speaks about switching her support to the Republican presidential ticket at a rally in Fairfax County for nominee John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin. (By Susan Biddle — The Washington Post)Lynette Long, a Clinton Democrat in the District, is campaigning for the GOP presidential ticket. (By Nikki Kahn — The Washington Post)

Lynette Long’s friends can barely sputter their objections. “How could you?” they say. “What about the environment? What about gay rights? What about Roe v. Wade?” Long’s son calls, flabbergasted. And  her patients in affluent, liberal Bethesda? They can hardly fathom it.

Lynette Long — psychologist, feminist, Democrat, Dupont Circle dweller, Whole Foods shopper, George Bush hater, Hillary Clinton supporter (to the max) — is not just voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin, she even took the stage at their rally in Fairfax to trumpet her decision to the world.

Long got the call from the McCain campaign at 10 the night before the rally this month. With a twinkle in her eye, the struggle for women in her heart and a bit of mischief in her mind, she agreed to be a warm-up speaker for the Republican ticket.

She had never been to a candidate’s rally before. She had voted for the Democrat for president in every election except for the elder George Bush’s first time, against Michael Dukakis in 1988. Sure, she had demonstrated against the Vietnam War, but she basically wasn’t the political type. That is, until Hillary Clinton came along.

All of a sudden, Long saw hope. As she told her son: “How would you feel if every day all the people you saw in authority were men, all the statues in Washington are all men, the money in your pocket, all pictures of men — and then finally, a woman comes along and she could be president? How would you feel? I would vote for her.”

Long didn’t just vote for Clinton in the D.C. primary. She blogged for her, campaigned for her, even wrote op-ed columns about her. But as Clinton’s campaign faltered, Long felt wronged. She blogged about purported irregularities in caucus voting, accused Barack Obama and his supporters of taking women for granted, put all her hope in the Democrats picking a woman for vice president.

After Clinton’s campaign ended, Long was among a group of local supporters who called McCain headquarters, asking, “What can you do for us?” To Long’s shock, they were invited to a meeting — with McCain himself.

“We told him we wanted gender parity, on the Supreme Court and in the Cabinet, and he listened,” she says. “His eyes opened.” At meeting’s end, a senior staffer asked Long if she would endorse their man
publicly.

“No way,” Long said. “I’m a Hillary supporter.”

Then, lo and behold, Sarah Palin happened.

By coincidence, Long was on an Alaskan cruise that week. “Everybody there loved” Palin, Long says. “I could see people glowing with pride.”

The next time the McCain campaign called, Long was ready. She had 10 hours to write a speech, sleep and get herself to Fairfax City.

“What do you want me to say?” she asked the organizer. “Do you want to see my speech?”

Whatever you want to say, she was told. And no, we don’t need to see it.

“I was shocked,” Long says. “I wouldn’t let someone go up and speak without seeing the speech. But they did, and that told me something about the man.”

Long agrees that Palin is not exactly, um, worldly, and that she lacks a certain base of knowledge. (“But I know character and instincts, and she is real.”) And yes, Long vehemently disagrees with the Republicans’ social conservatism.

But other factors trump those issues, she says, naming Obama’s inexperience, Clinton’s treatment by her party and the media, and the Democrats’ failure to choose a female running mate.

The issue that has most of Long’s friends recoiling in abject horror from her decision is abortion. Long calls herself unwaveringly “pro-choice.” But, she says, “as long as we let that determine our votes, we are hostages to the Democrats. If someone really tried to turn around choice, there’d be a revolution in this country. And I’m not going to let a future possibility nullify my vote. Women have sacrificed our power as the largest voting bloc in the nation because of one issue, abortion.”

Now hold on: Long disagrees with McCain on many issues and concedes Palin’s limitations. Then, when her e-mail lights up with unfounded rumors that Obama might dump Joe Biden and switch to Hillary Clinton, she nearly explodes with excitement. Is she really pro-McCain, or is she just being  provocative?

Long is the kind of person who is drawn to a fire, she grants that. She says she wore her Palin button to the Whole Foods on 14th Street NW just to see if she’d get a rise out of the assembled crunchies. No one would even look her in the eye, she reports.

She seems downright gleeful as she describes her fellow liberals’ faces draining of blood when she sings Palin’s praises. But when I suggest that the McCain camp is using her even as she uses it to teach fellow Democrats a lesson about taking women for granted, she says: “No, that’s too crass. You have to break down a house to rebuild it, but Palin is likable, popular and has integrity. She’s a person who will listen. Is she smart enough to do the job? Hey, Reagan was no brain surgeon, but people would follow him. It’s about leadership. Sarah has made mistakes, but out of naivete, not out of corruption.”

Every couple of minutes, Long — looking like the unPalin in black T-shirt, cargo pants and canvas sneakers — reflexively checks her e-mail, revealing a new list of fire-spewing rants accusing her of betrayal, sexism and worse. She loves it.

I posit that her newfound activism is really more about sticking it to Democratic men than about any real belief that McCain might promote the interests of women or that Palin would be a good president should she ascend to that role. Long protests that she really would be happy with a President Palin, a woman who understands the majority of Americans as no man could.

And then she says this: “I just don’t understand how the Democrats couldn’t see that women wanted a woman. I’m not getting back in bed with someone who’s just abused me. Yeah, it’s payback time.”

An Open Letter To Women Count

Another Rant by BettyJean Kling

As you know when you gals first got started, I was right there with you,  we were all on your side and I kicked in a few bucks. But then I got worried about whether you would stick with the Dems and I have been holding back.

I thank you for that lovely luncheon in Denver and I got to shake Hillary’s hand but I also had to listen to the call for Unity to the Dems who never lifted a hand as you well know – so I won’t belabor it. Suffice it to say I am a PUMA and I will not unify with a party that holds me hostage to a few issues but slashes all my other rights and degrades and humiliates the best damned candidate they had.

Democratic Hillary supporters MOST Welcome. Please come visit historic Fredericksburg and make it an early weekend to party with us, shop and visit the historic battlefields!
We are working out press and other details now and I am thrilled on just how wonderful the Stafford County Republican party has welcomed this democrat without any attempt to push me to their side. Campaigning in the region this weekend I have found these women and men to VERY MUCH RESPECT Sen. Hillary Clinton. Many of them have expressed the hope to push for Hillary to have some major role in a McCain administration. Most certainly, Palin has deep respect for her and likes some important aspects of her platform even though she does not agree with other major things. Aside from her personal Pro-Life position,  Sarah is very much PRO women’s issues and one of us – a woman.
Men are most welcome and wanted this is not just for females!

We are Family- all my brothers, sisters and me. Make it a family event.
TICKET ARE FREE AT www.FREDGOP.com

and the EXPO will fill quick.  I need you DEMS in Fredericksburg as we are more central and hope to spin the whole state.  The goal is to follow with a DEM/Republican Palin blog talk radio show through the month of October and election eve while we await the VA and country results.
